What’s Available NOW On

“Universal Basic Guys”Season 2 (Sept. 29)

The future is now, and every day it feels like someone’s career becomes a redundancy to some new technological advancement. Brothers Mark and Hank Hoagies, voiced by Devin Halliwell and Adam Malamut, lose their jobs at the local hot dog factory when robots are brought in to replace them in this Fox animated comedy.

“Krapopolis”Season 3 (Sept. 29)

Set in mythical ancient Greece, this animated comedy from Fox tells the story of a dysfunctional family of humans, gods and monsters trying to run one of the world’s first cities, while also trying their best to not kill each other in the process. The series features the voices of Hannah Waddingham, Richard Ayoade, Matt Berry, Pam Murphy and Duncan Trussell.

“Bob’s Burgers”Season 16 (Sept. 29)

Bob Belcher (H. Jon Benjamin) is a third-generation restaurateur who runs Bob’s Burgers with his loving wife (John Roberts) and their three children, Louise (Kristen Schaal), Tina (Dan Mintz) and Gene (Eugene Mirman). The series follows their often chaotic exploits in their restaurant and community.

“The Simpsons”Season 36 (Sept. 28) There’s always fun to be had in Springfield — especially when the Simpsons are involved. Releasing in tandem with the network premiere of the series’ 37th season, this batch of 18 episodes sees the family celebrating birthdays, tackling escape rooms, encountering new friends and even causing some spooks, in “The Simpsons” 35th iteration of their annual Halloween special: Treehouse of Horror.

“Little Angel”Seasons 1-6 (Sept. 30) In this musical animated series geared towards pre-schoolers, kids are invited to join in on the fun as Baby John and his friends learn how to share their toys on the playground, avoid cuts, bruises and bumps, and how to tackle tasks all by themselves. Each and every episode is brought to life with upbeat music kids (and parents alike) are sure to love.

An expert thief rolls out the biggest heist of his life in this action-packed thriller from director Shane Black. Parker (Mark Wahlberg), along with Grofield (LaKeith Stanfield), Zen (Rosa Salazar) and a skilled crew, stumble onto a score that pits them against the New York mob.

“Dancing With the Stars” - Season 34 (Sept. 30) Hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough, this competition makes its return once again, showcasing glitz, glamor, drama and unbelievable talent. This season, Corey Feldman, Scott Hoying, Robert Irwin, Andy Richter, Alix Earle, Dylan Efron, Whitney Leavitt, Danielle Fishel and Elaine Hendrix will take part in the competition, among many others.

“Elio” (Available Now)

When 11-year-old Elio Solis is mistaken to be the intergalactic ambassador for Earth, he is beamed up into the Communiverse by a group of aliens hoping to make contact. There, Elio makes some out-ofthis-world friends, and works alongside an extraterrestrial buddy to stop his new friend’s evil father.

“Children of Men” (Available Now) Set in 2027, humanity faces near extinction after two decades of infertility, and after the last child born dies, disillusioned bureaucrat Theo Faron (Clive Owen) is tasked with protecting a pregnant refugee (Clare-Hope Ashitey) and escorting her to a sanctuary at sea. Directed by Alfonso Cuaron, the 2006 film also stars Julianne Moore, Michael Caine and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

“The Craft” (Available Now) When Sarah (Robin Tunney) transfers to a Los Angeles high school, her telekinetic abilities catch the eye of three girls — Bonnie (Neve Campbell), Rochelle (Rachel True) and Nancy (Fairuza Balk) — who want her as the fourth member of their witchcraft circle. But when a powerful invocation goes wrong, the dangerous consequences spiral far beyond their control.

“Nightmares of Nature: Cabin in the Woods” (Sept. 30) Narrated by “Stranger Things” star Maya Hawke, this nature docuseries follows animal heroes that are struggling to endure the real-life terrors in the wild. From bleeding trees and crawling zombie snails to vampire fish ruling the waters, the series transforms the wild into a haunting tale of survival. Season 2 — “Lost in the Jungle” — premieres on the streamer Tuesday, Oct. 28.

“Steve” (Oct. 3) Set in the mid-’90s, this film is a reimagining of Max Porter’s bestseller “Shy.” On a pivotal day in the life of head teacher Steve (Cillian Murphy) and his students at a last chance reform school, the story follows Steve as he fights to protect the school’s integrity and impending closure as he grapples with his own mental health.

“Boots” (Netflix — Oct. 9, Series Premiere)

This new, one-hour comedic drama delivers an irreverent, off-beat take on the coming-of-age story. Set in the tough, unpredictable world of the 1990s U.S. Marine Corps — when being gay in the military was still illegal — the series follows directionless, closeted Cameron Cope (Miles Heizer) and his best friend Ray McCaffey (Liam Oh), the son of a decorated Marine, as they join a diverse group of recruits. Together, this ensemble navigates the literal and metaphorical landmines of boot camp, forging unlikely bonds and discovering their true selves in an environment designed to push them to their limits.

“Cocaine Quarterback: Signal-Caller for the Cartel” (Available Now)

A three-part documentary series, this program tells the cautionary tale of convicted drug trafficker Owen Hanson, detailing Hanson’s rise from modest beginnings, to unexpectedly walking on to the powerhouse USC football team, to illegal sports bookmaking, and eventually smuggling cocaine.

“Earthquake: Joke Telling Business” (Sept. 30) Legendary stand-up comedian Earthquake is back and ready to shake up the comedy scene with his brandnew Netflix special, where he’s riffing on relationships, politics, aging and the absurdities of modern life. Directed by Stan Lathan, the special was filmed in front of a live audience earlier this year and captures Earthquake at his most confident and unfiltered.

“Monster: The Ed Gein Story” (Oct. 3) Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s “Monster” anthology series returns, this time turning to rural Wisconsin in the 1950s, where a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein (portrayed by Charlie Hunnam) lived quietly on a decaying farm — hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare.

An all-star cast is suspected of ‘Murder on the Orient Express’

Agatha Christie’s literary mysteries have gotten many movie and TV adaptations, but one of the best is director Sidney Lumet’s 1974 version of “Murder on the Orient Express,” which Showtime Family Zone presents Wednesday, Oct. 1, and is currently streaming on Paramount+. Albert Finney makes an excellent Hercule Poirot as the sleuth boards the title train merely as a passenger, but he soon finds himself drawn by a friend and executive (Martin Balsam) into leading the investigation after a fellow traveler is brutally killed aboard the locomotive.

Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman (an Oscar winner here), Jacqueline Bisset, Jean-Pierre Cassel, Sean Connery, John Gielgud, Wendy Hiller, Anthony Perkins, Rachel Roberts, Richard Widmark and Michael York also are on board — with Lumet making superb use of confined conditions to yield a classy and engrossing result. The picture’s success inspired a number of other Christie-based films, but this one has a style of its own, extending to a marvelous music score (from the very first notes) by Richard Rodney Bennett.

“The High and the Mighty” (MGM+, Sunday, Sept. 28): Though “Airport” largely is considered the benchmark of airplane-themed disaster movies, the category actually had an earlier start with this 1954 drama produced by John Wayne, who also stars as the tragedy-haunted co-pilot of a passenger jet that develops trouble over the Pacific Ocean. Claire Trevor, Laraine Day, Robert Stack (who would be in 1980’s “Airplane!” later), Jan Sterling, Phil Harris, Robert Newton and David Brian also are in the cast. Dimitri Tiomkin’s
