Hello! My name is Ella Rawlings, and I am a 3rd year interior design student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I became interested in design and the college of architecture after I finished my first year of college in Engineering and realized I wanted to be on the design side of things. I have a minor in math and architectural studies, and I hope to go on to receive a masters degree in Architecture.

this project dove into redesigning an old slaughterhouse in rome, italy into a modern day bathhouse. it focused on the integration of history into a modern day space and finding ways to embrace the environment that one is building in.
the usage of material in this space encourages circulation and aids in creating a calming and encouraging space for the user.

CIRCULATION STRATEGY DIAGRAM
materiality is used to show the tones of the earth around it and the blue/green echos the ocean and landscape.
Aperture is seen in both windows and how they allow light in and in the assymetrical doorways.
this project was centered on creating a space for a person working in an industry using some sort of creative mediums to live, work, and display or sell their designs. this specific space is geared towards a fashion designer that creates eccentric clothing centered on thinking outside of the box. The design mirrors this with its gem like structure and cut-out areas that allow the user to circulate between them and create a good workflow.
this portable classroom is designed to be located at clinton elementary school in lincoln, nebraska. integrating nature into the classrooms of children, especially young children, is shown to have a substantial impact on their learning.
by placing a classroom like this in a title one school, it works towards balancing the racial and socioeconomic inequity that comes from a lack of equal opportunites.
previously a parking garage in the haymarket area of lincoln, nebraska, this redesigned urban building would act as a flexible space for members of the community to access and learn about the importance of local food, see how it is grown, purchase and eat the food, and grow as a community. the importance of food knowledge and food security were adressed by creating greater accessibility to healthy and local foods, and providing resources for members of the community to to learn how to sustain this knowledge.
attending design and making traditions in catalonia was a great experience to not only travel and see parts of the world that i hadn’t before, but it allowed me to work much more with hand drawing. New techniques were acquired over the two weeks of this course, and these skills have carried over into other projects.
model making in the digital age is a workshop that i had the opportunity to attend after the barcelona program. this workshop focuses on utilizing materials to improve model making skills, and allows the students to emply many different mediums. skills were learned during this workshop that have proved very helpful in both school-based and personal projects. these projects were in collaboration with other members of the workshop.
