The Recorder’s Ramblings... Ill Sir Mike Harper, PP

It is an honor to be appointed as Recorder and to follow Ill. Sir Jay Smith. I wish Jay a good time in his retirement. I think all of you can reflect on this past year full of parades, picnics, Duck Race, El Katif Food Booth, Elephant Ears and the WSU Football game (Go Cougs). It would be difficult to total up the volunteer hours spent supporting these vital shrine events. Now that fall has arrived, we continued with the momentum with a great Ladies Appreciation Night at the stated meeting, the first annual EWU shrine football game (Go Eagles) and the Fall Auction. We owe our Chief Rabin Jim Stewart and his lady Michele, our sincere appreciation for their hard work for a successful Auction. Nobles of El Katif and their ladies came forward with a tremendous amount of donated items that made the auction a success. The November Stated meeting on 1 November will be the annual Salute to Veterans. The Legion of Honor has promised that this will be top notch show. Reservations for dinner need to be called in by 25 October. Please come out to support our Veterans; past, present and future. The next order of business on 11 November is the Fall Ceremonial under the direction of Ill. Sir Doug Morgan. The key ingredient to the Fall Ceremonial is getting new candidate petitions into the Office. The Fall Ceremonial is to honor the spring candidates as well as the new fall candidates. Check in time for the new candidates will be at 8:00am. The First Section will start at 8:30am which is open to the public. At 9:45am the new candidates and ladies will be transported to the Hospital for their tour. At 11:00am the candidates will be brought back to the Shrine center for the Second section, while the ladies stay at the Hospital for an extended tour. At 11:15am the second section will be begin. At the completion of the Second Section, and with their ladies returning from the hospital, a light lunch will be served at 12:30pm. During the lunch we are going to introduce each Club and Unit and provide a brief outline of what they do. We would highly recommend that each Club and Unit have representatives at the lunch in costume. At 2:00pm the morning session is complete and all are released to go to the Mirabeau Park Hotel for the evening activities. The evening will start at 5:30pm with a no-host social hour. We need your reservations for both the lunch and dinner by 8 November. We need to fill the ballroom to show support of our new candidates. Following dinner there will be live music for dancing. Then it will be time to relax and enjoy your time with family and friends for a well-deserved Thanksgiving holiday. Once again thanks to all of you for the time spent these past few months supporting our Temple and our Shrine Hospital for Children hospital fund raising activities. 3
