Captain’s Address

Dear Members, First of all as a new captain, I would like to thanks all members who have been supporting us for the past year and we hope that you will continue to do so. This year we have two new committee members, Khun Sathirut Tandanand and Khun Soratat Rojanasoontorn. Khun Sathirut is an architect by profession who will be taking care of our fairways and greens. Khun Soratat is a young and keen golfer. He will oversee our junior program. There will not be any major changes in the layout of our golf course this year. We will try to maintain and improve the condition of our course in order to let all members enjoy their round with least disruption. One of my priorities is to improve the quality of caddies and our handicap system. Beginning next year, we will have a new scorecard. In the new scorecard, there will be caddy evaluation box for you to mark and it will be mandatory to submit your scorecard along with caddy evaluation every time you play. With this new measure all handicaps will be up to date and more accurate and at the same time we can use it as one of our caddy evaluation tools. I would like to ask all members to cooperate and help us in this new system and I’m sure we can improve the quality of caddies and at the same time have more accurate handicaps. We already have our handicap system linked online to TGA at present. Next year, we will install computer screen for members to check their handicap online. In this holiday season, I’d like to wish you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Happy Golfing!!

Truly Yours,

Khun Surin Banyatpiyaphod RBSC Golf Captain

Captain’s Corner

Dear Members, After Bangkok has somewhat returned to normalcy with central Bangkok surviving the actual flood, the Ladies Golf AGM Foursome was held on Wednesday 23 November. As many as 35 pairs of enthusiastic golfers signed up to compete in this good camaraderie competition. After 3 hours of laughter for most teams, maybe headache for others, we had the winners: Khun Tuenjai Asavisanu and (gasp!) me. We played with a 9 (¾ of our combined and halved handicaps) and scored a net 62. It was an amazing round for both of us, having saved long putts and hit well from everywhere. Congratulations to the runners-up Khun Rujiraporn Lamsam and Khun Rommanee Wacharasindhu, scoring a net 63 playing with a handicap of 11. It was a close finish indeed. I’d like to thank everyone for your continued support having elected us to be your Sub-Committee for Ladies Golf activities in 2011-2012. I’d like to express my sincerest thanks to Khun Niraporn Wongsommat and Khun Sunun Mahasandana for their time, dedication and good friendship on the Sub-Committee in the past years. I hereby welcome new working members Khun Nitayada Purananda and Khun Onchittra Veerasaksri and also would like to show my deepest appreciation to Mrs. Fuyumi Watanabe, Khun Supitr Jivamongkol, Khun Boonsiri Foorungsriroj and Khun Sasitorn Chokwatana for continuation of great work in the Ladies’ Golf Section. I hereby would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the winners for the Prestigious Awards of 2011. These outstanding golfers’ work and participation for the last 12 months speak for themselves: Best Golfer Most Improved Golfer Most Competitive Golfers

: Khun Duangphorn Tangchitnob : Khun Vevika Chotiros : Khun Sumana Na Ranong and Khun Sasitorn Chokwatana

Please note that Khun Duangphorn has won the Best Golfer prize for three consecutive years, a major accomplishment. Also, Khun Vevika is the lowest handicap player to have won the Most Improved Golfer award. A great record she has written! We had our first competitive event of the new calendar on Wednesday 21 December - the Christmas Competition. There were 3 age flights as shown below:

Silver Flight (Age 55 and below) Gold Flight (Age 56-65) Platinum Flight (Age 66 and over)

Everyone played stroke play with 7/8 of her own handicap (max 24) making for another highly competitive tournament. It was also full of fun as there were so many prizes to be won including the ever-popular Christmas Costume “Team Spirit”. You will see the match report in the January edition of RBSC ELITE. Wish you good health and happy golfing in 2012 ka!

H.M. The King’s

Birthday Cup & RBSC Cup Tanut and Chatchawal Steal the Show at most prestigious Twin-Event

T

he Royal Bangkok Sports Club golf ’s young gun Khun Tanut Sirikietsoong and avid golfer Khun Chatchawal Chonviriya have stolen the show at the year’s most prestigious twin event for the H.M. the King’s Birthday Cup and RBSC Cup organised on 4 and 5 December.

The double event was played from the championship tees in Stroke Play format. The qualifying round was held on the first day and the final round the next day. Twenty one golfers who carded in the best scores were qualified for the Sunday’s final round for the H.M. the King’s Birthday Cup and the RBSC Cup.

In accordance with the conditions of the competition, the gross score of players is taken into account in adjudging the winner of the H.M. the King’s Birthday Cup and the net score is considered for deciding the winner of the RBSC Cup. In case of ties for the H.M. the King’s Birthday Cup, the leaders get into a playoff to decide the winner and the runner-up. However, should there be ties for the RBSC Cup the winner and runner-up will be decided based on the lowest handicap. In the event of the handicaps being the same, the best scores for the last nine, last six, last three or all the 18 holes, as the case may be, is considered.

CAN YOU

AFFORD TO LOSE YOUR MOBILE PHONE

Secure Your Phone with - SYP - Safe Your Phone® - By Simon Nathan

F

or many of us, mobile phone is not just a ‘phone’ but an all-in-one handy gadget which we use as a personal assistant, appointment scheduler, events calendar and reminder, alarm clock, notepad, computer, databank, still/video camera, voice recorder, music player and so on. A lot of us also use the otherwise communication tool as a ‘safety box’ of secrets!

Whether your phone has been stolen or you have forgotten it somewhere and eventually lost, it can be a true nightmare! Imagine how painful it is losing your mobile and not having any single back up of your contacts. Imagine having to look for the contact numbers of all your friends, colleagues and clients again and keying them in from scratch! By the way, what about all those appointments and events on your calendar? OMG! What happens if all your ‘secrets’ get exposed?! Needless to say, having your mobile phone misplaced or lifted can be an expensive and devastating blow and mere thought of it can send jitters down your spine! So can you afford to lose your mobile phone? Certainly not! But how can you keep your mobile phone safe and secure and avoid that nightmarish experience?

Simple! Subscribe to the innovative, award-winning mobile security application - Safe Your Phone® – with which you can not only lock your phone, retrieve and later delete all your personal information and data but also track the gadget to its location...All this just by sending a couple of SMS messages! But what’s amazing is that.....

How different is SYP when compared to similar kind of service already being offered by mobile network operators? There’s no service in Thailand similar to SYP providing several value-added features - all in one package. SYP doesn’t need your phone to be connected to internet directly or through a computer for synchronising and retrieving data or information files. Similarly, SYP phone tracking system can trace your phone’s location even if it is not connected to internet. Further, you don’t need to go to the police or your mobile operator for help. SYP does it all for you! So no more headaches...no more waiting!!

.....you can lock your phone and virtually take complete control of it even if the stealth user changes any number of SIM cards! SYP immediately sends you the new number every time the user puts in a new SIM!! This unique and fool-proof application has newly descended to Thailand and there’s quite an interesting story behind its arrival. It was not a telecom consortium or a corporate giant that has brought the American-patented Safe Your Phone (‘SYP’ in short) to the Kingdom but the emotional ordeal silently suffered by a 19-year-old Chulalongkorn University student three years ago after she had lost her valuable mobile phone presented by her father.

Is SYP compatible with all models of mobile phones? SYP is compatible with most models of smartphones with mobile OS (Operating System) such as BlackBerry, Android and Symbian OS. How much does it cost? The subscription cost is pretty much affordable for everyone as we wanted to reach this service to every single mobile phone in Thailand. The cost per phone is only 372 baht in the first year and half the price from the second year onwards. Simply put......

The student, who eventually graduated in Civil Engineering, has left no stone unturned to find her mobile phone. She pasted notices at the canteen (from where an unknown intruder had stolen her phone) and on walls and all other public places on the varsity campus. She lodged a complaint with the police, informed her mobile operator and even made a thorough search at (used goods shops in) MBK Centre. But all here efforts were of no avail.

with just 1 baht a day, you can keep the mobile thieves away!

Supposing that I had subscribed to SYP service and lost my phone later, what is my next step? It is very simple. Just send a couple of SMS messages to lock your phone, retrieve and delete the data and, at the same time, to activate SYP phone tracking system. The system traces the whereabouts of your phone, tracks its movements and keeps you informed of its ‘current location’.

Interested in meeting the student? Here she is...RBSC member Khun Sarinya Perumal Chief Operating Officer of Perumal Technology & Telecommunication (Thailand) Co., Ltd. Learn about her experience from her own words:

When do you expect to launch SYP? Will it be available directly to phone users? We have planned to launch SYP in March or April 2012. Initially, the service will be made available directly to phone users. We are trying to make it easily accessible. Very soon it will be available at various convenience stores. In the not-so-distant future, the subscription cost can also be billed automatically to your phone account by your SIM provider. If you are interested in subscribing to SYP, just call me at 087 773 7752 or shoot an e-mail to sarinya@perumaltt.com or syp@perumaltt.com.

You appear like a varsity-fresher who just started her professional life. How could you think of such an innovative project? Well...It is just because of my own experience. After losing my phone, I made all sorts of attempts to trace its whereabouts but in vain. I silently cried for days as it was a valuable gift from my dad. Since I couldn’t dare to ask him to buy one again, I started using my old mobile. Months have passed but there were no clues from either the police or the mobile operator. Then I have decided to do something for people like me who lose their phones. I didn’t want anyone to suffer like me. So I made a thorough research and found the American-patented security application. Later, I persuaded my father to bring it to Thailand.

HKGC vs. RBSC Interport Match RBSC Members Enjoy Playing the Undulating Eden!

M

After the Interport, the RBSC team were hosted to a superb meal in the HKGC Clubhouse and as usual the gastronomic delights of the meal more than made up for the result!

embers of the Royal Bangkok Sports Club have once again had the pleasure of playing the undulating Eden Course at Fan Ling in Hong Kong at the end of October.

The RBSC golfers now look forward to welcoming back the Hong Kong team to Bangkok in a return Interport match scheduled for 14 January 2012. Perhaps they can chalk up a better score on their home course!

Normally the Sports Club relies on a large contingent of players travelling over to Hong Kong for the annual Interport match with the Hong Kong Golf Club. But this year the Bangkok flooding has caused many late cancellations and on Saturday, 29th October only 22 members made it to the first tee for this match. The Eden Course was in superb condition and it’s always a pleasure to play this undulating course that winds through the Hong Kong hills with views over the border to China. The mature trees add to the delight of the course.

HKGC vs. RBSC INTERPORT MATCH RESULT Hong Kong Golf Club

However, RBSC golfers could only admire the views and the talent of the opposition as the Sports Club went down 21 to 4 in the Interport match. A resounding victory for the home team with only one win recorded on the Bangkok score card as Khun Kittipong Decha-Umphai shot a virtually flawless round of golf to take two points along with his partner Garrick Law.

aren’t likely to be adequate. Denying your body the fuel it needs accelerates the aging process by increasing inflammation, the precursor of many degenerative conditions.

As we get older, the aging process produces physical changes that make it harder to keep doing the same exercises and sporting activities at the same level of intensity. It’s important to adjust your exercise habits - cutting back on aggressive, competitive types of exercise or high-contact sports – to prevent injuries and health problems and to ensure you realise the maximum benefits of an active lifestyle at every stage of life.

Recovery and balance The aging process follows some basic yet important rules. First, the older we are, the more time we need to recover and heal after exercising. Be sure to incorporate periodic increases in recovery time after each workout with other adjustments.

Recommended exercises by age group

Peak levels We reach our optimal physical condition during our teens and 20s, when hormones are at their peak and injuries heal quickly. But around our mid-30s, our hormones begin to decline. The same exercise routine that’s ideal for someone in their 20s has more potential risks and pitfalls - more frequent injuries and longer recovery times - for someone in their 40s.

Second, balance and equilibrium help maximize the benefits of exercise, especially from people in their 40s or older. Use different types of exercise to offset negative effects. For example, high-intensity activities such as running on a treadmill cause the body to release adrenaline, a hormone that increases heart rate and blood pressure, makes blood vessels constrict and causes air passages to dilate – the same symptoms we experience during stress.

Avoid extremes Exercise boosts the body’s level of fitness, promotes healing, and strengthens injury prevention. It also helps keep our weight under control by boosting metabolism. But just because something is good for you, don’t automatically assume that more will always be better. Along with more injuries, over-exercising can cause sleep problems and weaken the immune system. When the body is stimulated too frequently, it becomes more difficult to spot early symptoms of injury. Over-exertion also triggers the body into making adjustments that can offset exercise’s health benefits.

Balance a stressful activity with a calming activity. Calming exercises such as Pilates and yoga will leave you feeling invigorated but not depleted. And keep your body in equilibrium by keeping recovery time in balance with exercise intensity. After all, the quality of your recovery time directly affects the benefits you’ll receive in health and wellness.

With high-intensity exercise placing greater demands on the body, adjustments to diet and nutrition may be needed to ensure the body takes in enough protein, vitamins and minerals; nutrition guidelines for the “average” person

How to Prevent Injuries and Enjoy More Golf An interview with Dr. Pornthep Mamanee, Bangkok Sports Medicine Center, Bangkok Hospital

M

up their muscles to be flexible, strong and able withstand the workload. You need to spend at least 15 minutes on stretching exercises before hitting the course. The older you are, the more conscientious you should be about stretching. You also have to do exercises to strengthen your back, abs and legs. In this manner you can avoid up to 90% of golf injuries.

any people consider golf a low-level physical activity without much risk for injury. However, the facts prove otherwise. In the USA alone, more than 55,000 people visited hospitals due to golf-related injuries each year, according to a recent report released by a US government agency. Many injuries can be caused by playing golf, including injuries to the ankle, elbow, spine, knee, hip, and wrist. Golfers most often experience tenderness or numbness in the hands, and may also have pain in the shoulders, back and knees. Wrist injuries, such as tendinitis or carpal tunnel syndrome, and golfer’s elbow are also common. But how do such injuries occur? And how can injuries be prevented to ensure that golf is enjoyable rather than painful? To find out the answers to these questions, RBSC ELITE met with Dr. Pornthep Mamanee, a specialist in Orthopedic Surgery at the Bangkok Sports Medicine Center of Bangkok Hospital. Excerpts:

What is golfer’s elbow? Technically known as medial epicondylitis, golfer’s elbow is an inflammation of the tendons that attach your forearm muscles to the inside of the bone at your elbow. The forearm muscles and tendons become damaged from overuse — repeating the same motions again and again. This leads to pain and tenderness on the inside of the elbow. One of the best ways to avoid elbow problems is to strengthen your forearm muscles and slow your golf swing so that there will be less shock in the arm when the ball is hit.

What should golfers be aware of when they swing? The golf swing is an unnatural motion of the body. A golfer will wind his upper body to reach the top of his backswing and then unwind his body to come back to the original position. The human body is not designed to perform these kinds of twists, or any of the other unnatural movements you can see in various sports and activities. To avoid injuries, you have to find the right technique and use the right club. Beginner golfers tend to ‘chunk’ and create a large divot. Chunks and fat shots send shockwaves to your arms through the club shaft and can cause injury to your wrists, elbows or shoulders. For this reason, it is important to be careful with your swing.

What precautions do you suggest for golfers, especially those aged 60 and above? People tend to suffer from low back pain and knee pain as they get older. A golfer with a bad back should try not to bend too much. If his knees are good, he can squat to pick up the ball or read a putt. Similarly, a golfer with knee pain but a strong back can bend to do the same. Otherwise, they should use their putter to whip the ball up or ask their caddie to pick it up for them. As for reading a putt, they should go as far as they can behind their ball and/or away from the cup and read the line from there while standing. As a golfer, I have become very comfortable using this technique.

What happens to a golfer with a poor swing and/or weak and inflexible muscles? Low back pain is the most common complaint among golfers with a poor swing. The rotational stresses of the golf swing can place considerable pressure on the spine and muscles. Also, poor flexibility and weak muscles can cause minor strains in the back that can easily become severe injuries.

How important is it to learn golf from a qualified pro? If you start playing incorrectly, you will likely develop a poor or faulty swing. You may also be using a different group of muscles that otherwise shouldn’t be used. This will only aggravate the problem. If you continue doing that, it becomes extremely difficult in the future to correct your swing. However, if you learn the game from a qualified instructor, you will swing with the right technique and maintain good muscle quality. Good muscle quality means your muscles are strong and flexible. As such, I would say learning the game from a qualified pro is crucial.

How quickly do golf-related injuries develop? Most golf injuries are the result of overuse. By repeating the same golf swing motion over and over again, significant stress is placed on the same muscles, tendons, and joints. Over time, this can cause injury. If your swing is poor or you have weak muscles and joints, the injury will happen much sooner. The extent of damage can range from minor sprains to inflammation with severe pain, bruising, tearing of tendon fibres, joint and ligament damage, dislocations and bone fractures.

Can pelvic or lumbar support belts be of help to golfers with back pain? It is, in fact, bad to use such belts. First of all, if you put on a support belt, the muscle cannot work like normal and your natural motion gets restricted. This may worsen the condition or cause more injury because the muscles outside the belt have to work harder to compensate for the muscles inside the support. Secondly, if you don’t limit usage of the belt and wear it during your daily activities, it will wrap the muscles and make them weak. If you want to have good support, you have to build up your muscles.

What is the best way to prevent injury? Flexibility and muscle strength are extremely important for avoiding injuries, and stretching can help towards both flexibility and strength. Many people arrive at their golf course right on time or a bit late and rush to the tees to get the most of their game. They take a minute to do a couple of stretches and twists, and then maybe one or two practice swings. And that’s it...they’re readily tee off! But that’s totally wrong. Many golfers with back pain overuse their muscles while playing golf but won’t take the effort to build

Worried of Falling Hair.....? Rest Assured with RESTIV Anti-Hair Loss Foam

Marketing Director Khun Sakesuk Kasemsuwan and Product Manager Khun Isada Panthawee proudly show RESTIV hair restoration and rejuvenation miracle mousse

enerally, individuals who care about their appearance and outlook do so because they need to feel confident. The way that they dress and walk is also very important to them. In addition to this, a major part of their attire includes their hair too. In other words it is their hair that also matters to them, and so, it is with their hair as well that they feel confident.

no longer want to present themselves in meetings, parties or social/networking activities. Hair loss in men may be caused by a multitude of reasons. Heredity, diet lacking in essential nutrients, stress, anaemia, weakness and weather changes are some factors responsible for hair loss or ‘alopecia’, as it is medically called. Individuals may also lose hair as a side effect of some treatments.

Hair loss can cause a man to have a poor body image and low self-esteem. This leads to feelings of insecurity, anxiety, shyness and fear of what people think about them. It can get worse, especially if they are exposed to ridicule and fun or notice someone talking behind their back.

Perhaps the worst part about losing hair is that people feel that it is something that goes way out of their control. This is something that really demoralises them, especially when they try their best to prevent it using traditional methods that have had no real impact.

When such individuals begin to lose hair or find that their hair is not what it used to be they can get quite depressed. People tend to suffer greatly as a result of this depression and

Some people may even lose interest in themselves accepting hair loss as a part of life and, as a result, they end up doing

How effective Procapil-N® is when compared to other conventional products such as Minoxidil® and Finasteride®? In the comparative tests conducted, Minoxidil® showed a hair shaft growth rate of 58% from day 0 to day 14, while the growth rate achieved during the same period with Procapil-N® was a whopping 121%! Similarly, the result of using Procapil-N® in 4 months was far better than that of using Finasteride® for 5 months.

nothing about it. It isn’t worthwhile to leave the matter to destiny, especially when effective remedies are available. At the very least, one can prevent his hair condition from worsening before it is all lost! Wigs, dyes and an assortment of hair replacement options have been in the market for decades promising men the lush vigor of having a head full of hair. But none of the many hocus-pocus treatments could help the needy in achieving satisfying and lasting results. This has apparently given the fillip to a pharmaceutical company in Spain to invent a hair restoration and rejuvenation miracle mousse that provides a permanent solution to hair loss!

Is RESTIV safe to use? Does it have any side effects? Absolutely! It is a dermatologically tested hypoallergenic, so it is safe to use. In Thailand, as many as 109 persons, including film stars, TV personalities, self-employed professionals, businessmen and students volunteered to try RESTIV and none of them reported any side effect. Further, almost all of them expressed satisfaction saying they have seen clear growth of new hair within 3 weeks of use.

Called RESTIV, the anti-hair loss foam can not only help accelerate growth of new hair but also reduce the signs of hair loss. With amazing and proven results, the easy-to-use dermatologically tested hypoallergenic became a hot selling product in Europe and America before arriving in Thailand recently. The credit of bringing this double-effect foam to the Kingdom goes to one of the leading pharmaceutical companies Biopharm Chemicals Co., Ltd.

Can the product be used to treat alopecia in women? RESTIV is equally safe and effective in treating and preventing hair loss in women. However, it was named so by the manufacturer in view of the global demand from men which is significantly more than the demand from women.

RBSC ELITE met the company’s Marketing Director and RBSC member Khun Sakesuk Kasemsuwan to know more about how RESTIV can treat and prevent hair loss and how fast and permanent are the results. Highlights of the interview:

How easy is it to apply the foam? It is quite easy to use RESTIV. Just press the diffuser of the canister in an inverted position, apply foam about the size of a walnut on the scalp where there is a patch without hair or with thin hair, then massage with fingers until foam covers the area.

How does RESTIV work? RESTIV comes with a French patented innovation - Procapil-N® - which is a combination of three active ingredients, oleanolic acid (extracted from olive leaves), apigenin (a flavonoid extracted from citrus fruit) and biotinyl-GHK (biotin and protein complex). This combination acts on the main causes of alopecia by improving micro-circulation in the scalp, stimulating cell metabolism and reducing follicle atrophy caused by a male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and follicle aging. RESTIV is the only product to contain Procapil-N®.

When is the best time to apply? You can apply the foam in the day or night and whether the hair is wet or dry. But for the best result, apply it after you shampoo your hair. How long one has to use the product for visible results? If you use RESTIV in the recommended way, you can see the result in 2 to 3 weeks. However, you should continue using it for at least one month to see a clear difference in the thickness and the length of hair. How much does it cost and where is it available? The retail price of RESTIV, available in 75 ml canister, is 1,990 baht. However, RBSC members can get it at a special price of 1,690 baht at Golf Pro Shop or Men’s Salon.

In The News

Range Balls to Cost 30 Baht a Tray from January 1 Members will have noted that as of 1 January 2012 the cost of a tray of balls has been increased from 25 to 30 baht. A notice to this effect has been posted at the clubhouse since 17 November 2011. The reason for this is because general expenses in running the practice facility have increased plus much of the money raised on the Golf Driving Range goes directly to the Junior Golf Programme the cost of running which has also increased. Members will also have noticed that the range balls have also changed. A number of different balls were tried out and it was finally decided to go with Srixon range balls. The Golf Committee approved these balls for the best combination of feel and durability. The balls have been out on the range since the end of November and we hope that they are already helping you to improve your game! Just remember that as from 1 January coupons will be sold at 30 baht each. However, members who already have old 25 baht coupons can buy additional 5 baht coupons from the driving range staff for use with their old coupons from 1 January to 31 May. After 1 June 2012 old coupons will not be accepted and cannot be returned or redeemed. A final thought....Do remember that the range balls are for use on the range only and are not to be ‘borrowed’ for use on the course.

‘GOLF CITIZEN’s can Search…Book…Play Great Golf Courses Anywhere on the Planet! - By Simon Nathan

What makes this possible is a new, simple golf booking engine – www.golfcitizen.com. The website allows golfers to book tee times and receive a confirmation instantly! GOLF CITIZEN is a powerful yet simple platform that works in real-time environment. Unlike other online services, a tee time booking made on GOLF CITIZEN is confirmed immediately. It also serves as a handy and powerful tool for the marketing/front office staff of golf clubs to mange and sell their tee times without any hassle. Developed and programmed from the ground up, GOLF CITIZEN gives any golf club in the world an instant online presence around the clock. With just an internet connection and a modern web browser such as Google Chrome™ and Firefox™, the website provides multiple solutions to golf courses for effective tee time management and sales.

H

ello...World of golf! Here’s a piece of truly great news for golf

lovers and golf courses alike. Searching your choicest golf course and booking your most suited tee time has become so easy now and is just a click away. Similarly, the operators of various golf courses can manage and sell tee times in real time!

52

December 2011

Launched only a couple of months back, the website has some of the most beautiful and challenging courses in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), including the first ‘Links’ golf course of the region – Yas Links Abu Dhabi. The Banyan Golf Club, Hua Hin, with a world-class championship-standard golf course, has taken the

CITIZEN ID number which you’ll use every time you log on. To register as a GOLF CITIZEN, simply go to www.golfcitizen. com and follow the instructions. The website is best viewed with browsers such as Google Chrome™, Firefox™, Safari™ and Opera™. You don’t need to worry if you don’t have one of them already installed on your system. You can easily download the browser of your choice from the links provided on our home page.

credit of being the first golf course in this part of the world to join GOLF CITIZEN and offer its tee times online. The Montgomerie Links, Vietnam, has recently signed up and will be up and running on the site in January. This marks the first course in Vietnam, and third country to use GOLF CITIZEN. Many more golf courses in Thailand, Asia and around the world are expected to join GOLF CITIZEN in the coming months.

Do you charge any booking fees? Absolutely not! You pay only the displayed price of the tee time.

RBSC ELITE talked to the booking engine Manager Mr. Sean Shanor to know more about the website’s unique features and the benefits it offers to golfers and golf courses. Following are the interview excerpts:

What about cancellations and refunds? Golf clubs have their own cancellation policies and these are clearly displayed upon booking. GOLF CITIZEN does not charge any fees above the club’s cancellation policy. Refunds are processed directly to the credit card used for purchase.

How different and unique is GOLF CITIZEN when compared with similar websites? GOLF CITIZEN allows golfers to book multiple rounds at multiple golf clubs internationally. The biggest difference between our booking engine and pretty much any other system that we’ve seen is that it allows a golf club to put up tee times immediately, in real time. So when a user books a tee time, it is updated and confirmed there and then. Further, there’s a choice of 18 holes and 9 holes. Any golf club that wants to be a part of the system can join. It’s free for them to use, and it’s very easy to put up tee times.

What are the advantages for the clubs which join GOLF CITIZEN? Getting an instant and 24-hour online presence! Our site offers an extra medium to sell tee times. Every single golf club is given its own page to manage on the site and it’s free! No installations are required. You can change tee times, rates and course information instantly. You can put tee times online or take them offline with a simple click - by slot, tee time, hour, day, week, day of the week and by month. You will have complete flexibility and full control over being able to offer the best rates possible on the system. If you want to offer special discounts on certain days or at certain times, you can do that instantly. In a nutshell, the club is the administrator of its own page on the website.

How user-friendly is the site? There is a very simple filter system of questions. Which golf club date do you want to play and what club do you want to play at? How many players are you booking for? Do you want to book a tee time or a shotgun? As soon as you answer those filter questions, the system tells you exactly what tee times and what rates are applicable.

You can access your page from any computer, anywhere in the world. You can attach any documents, like terms and conditions or conditions of play. Another important benefit for golf courses is that online payment provides for easy refunds and protects against no-shows.

How does a golfer benefit from using the site? It is really quick and easy to book online. Golfers can book from anywhere in the world. For instance, if you are travelling to Thailand and want to play a golf course here, you can book your tee time right from your home or office in your country. Business executives, especially those with tight travel schedules, will find our website very helpful. You can know exactly what the rate is. You can pay it there and then and don’t have to go through any of the hassles such as filling out forms or going through switchboards. With online payment, and email and SMS confirmations, golfers will enjoy a seamless booking process. But the biggest advantage is that you can book multiple tee times in one go!

Golf courses can use our website as a complete membership booking portal, with control over different membership types, including booking and guest privileges. Our site provides a highly customised system for golf clubs to manage their courses, while instantly providing an online presence for booking visitor and member tee times. Golf courses interested in joining us are welcome to shoot an email to findoutmore@golfcitizen.com. Any plans to expand the database of golf courses on your website? Of course, we do have big plans to expand our reach worldwide. Within two months after launch, we have seen a dozen golf courses joining the booking engine. Our aim is to have every single golf course in the UAE, Thailand and across the region on www.golfcitizen.com.

Do I have to register myself to book a tee time? Yes. You have to sign up to become a ‘GOLF CITIZEN’ and it is free to join. When you first sign up, you’re given a GOLF

BETTER GOLF

WITH BILL

Bill Hutton, who turned professional in 1983, is a ‘Class A’ member of the Professional Golfers’ Association of USA. He has been the Director of Junior Golf at the Royal Bangkok Sports Club for the last 10 years. Formerly, he was the Head Pro at the Winsan Golf Club (now known as Legacy Golf Club). Bill appeared on Kong Fak Nak Golf, a programme telecast every midnight on TV Channel 3 for over eight years. He gave more than 1,500 golf tips through the programme during 1997-2005.

Keep That Right Elbow.....In! To make a good backswing that will deliver power on the downswing, the right elbow needs to be ‘IN’ (elbow under the hand) at the top of the backswing. You’ve probably heard of the term ‘chicken wing’ or ‘flying elbow’. These terms are used to identify a right elbow that has moved ‘out’ and away from the body. People do this because it is easy and does not put the right shoulder under any stress.

56

December 2011

At address you 1 can see my right bicep is perpendicular to my shoulder line.

At impact, my right bicep is still perpendicular to my shoulder line which allows me to strike down on the ball.

At the top of 2 my backswing, I have kept my right elbow and hands in front of the body. My right elbow has ‘stayed in’.

3

The right bicep (the part of the arm from elbow to shoulder) must remain perpendicular to the shoulders at all times – address, top of backswing and impact.

5 This is what you might look like

if your right elbow was ‘out’ away from your body. This is a clubhead coming at the ball from the inside, because the elbow stayed ‘in’ at the top.

7

4 You can see my right elbow has gone ‘out’ away from my body. Many problems can happen now.

If the right elbow ‘flies out’ at the top of the backswing, the club will likely point to the right of the target. This makes it difficult to swing the clubhead straight down the target line. If the right elbow stayed ‘in’, the 6 elbow can easily drop down to your right hip like this and hit the ball from an inside path. By keeping the elbow ‘IN’ you can easily drop the elbow straight down towards your right hip and deliver the clubhead to the ball from a slightly inside path with lots of power!

Pleasant Surprises Await You at this Arthur Hills’ Jewel Hidden in a Quiet Thai Countryside

any pleasant surprises await golfers of all levels at the 1 that is hidden in a tranquil Thai countryside off Bangna-Trat Road just 50 minutes from downtown Bangkok.

challenge and reward golfers of all age, gender and level of skill. Afternoon breezes and an interesting golf course layout add to the pleasure of playing this golf course. The golf course has undergone regular improvements under the direct supervision of Vintage’s Executive Director Khun Suthilaksh Chirathivat. Evidently, the course is almost always in excellent playing condition and the fairways are well maintained allowing for good run out of well stuck drives.

Venue to several Thai PGA and Thai LPGA events, the 18-hole 6,952 yd par 72 golf course was designed by a renowned US golf architect Arthur Hills. With pristine greens and rolling fairways, the course retains many of the natural surroundings like marshes with reeds and multi-colored bougainvillea plants to give the golfer the feeling that he is in the Thai countryside rather than at a championship course in the outskirts of Bangkok.

The four par-3s differ in length and set up and getting a par on each goes a long way to a good score. Vintage Golf has some thrilling golf holes including the par-3 2nd, par-5 10th and par-4 13th, all of which will have you writing down a high score if you lose concentration or hit a bad shot.

Conveniently located just off the extensive Expressway network, Vintage Golf Club can be reached by car in less than 45 minutes from the centre of Bangkok by car. The club is located on Panwithi Road near Bang Bor community and can be accessed from the Bang Na–Trat Road (Km 27) or the old Sukhumvit Road (Km 61).

Vintage should be considered as an excellent value-for-money venue for golfers wanting an excellent semi-private golf course. The caddies are knowledgeable about the golf course, especially its undulating greens. If you are playing the course for the first time it is good to consult them before putting and you will likely get a decent score. Before you play, be sure to warm up at the 300 yard grass driving range and brush up your putting skills at the large practice green.

Opened in January 1996 and managed by the Central Group, the Vintage Golf Club championship course is a classic layout featuring a gentle natural rolling terrain, which can both

the 18th and avoid the fairway bunker to the left and waterfall to the right.”

Both before and after their rounds, golfers can enjoy the comforts offered in the Tudor English style clubhouse. Locker rooms, restaurant, and pro shop are all located here. The locker rooms are airy, well-appointed and offer additional stream room, Jacuzzi and traditional Thai massage and foot massage. The club house restaurant specialises in Japanese food although its menu boasts of a variety of delectable Thai, Chinese and Western dishes available at reasonable prices.

Says Vintage Golf Club General Manager Khun Sunthon Chitsuntisuk: “Our layout has an ideal balance of risks and rewards. Turfed with Bermuda Tifdwarf, the greens are well manicured. The rolling fairways with Bermuda Tifway 419 are always in good shape. Unlike many other courses, we maintain the green speed constantly at 9-10 all day with which many club golfers feel comfortable. Each of the 18 holes has a different form of difficulty. At the same time, it rewards those who play with a perfect game plan. The green fee is 1,500 baht during weekdays and 2,600 baht during weekends. We have annual memberships available for 50,000 baht (excluding VAT) that entitles individuals to avail of all General Member rights, including free green fee every day for unlimited rounds of golf, special rates for associate memberships and guest rates for guests of members. The annual membership is transferrable.”

While going around the Arthur Hills’ jewel, RBSC ELITE met a group of members of the Royal Bangkok Sports Club who were playing a round of golf. The group included Khun Pichai Chuensuksawadi, Khun Supakorn Vejjajiva, M.L. Dhanavisuth Visuthi and Khun Pakorn Panthawi. In a tête-à-tête with RBSC ELITE during a short break, an 18-handicapper Khun Pichai said he always enjoyed playing Vintage golf course. “It is an interesting layout with many challenges. Personally, I like the closing holes – 9th and 18th – because they involve risk but are equally rewarding. You need to be accurate with your tee and approach shots lest you will end up with high scores. If you falter on the 9th, there is a meandering creek on the left and coconut grove on the right that readily devour your ball. You also need to be careful on

Europe’s Top Golf Resorts More than just Golf Courses

Valderama Golf Course, San Roque, Spain: Club de Golf Valderrama is located in Andalucia, the largest and southernmost region of Spain. A few miles north of Gibraltar, it is approximately two hours’ drive from Cadiz and one and a half hours from Malaga. The climate is ideal for year-round golf. The Par 71 Championship Course measures 6,356 metres from the professional tees. The fairways have been described by top pros and leading golf writers as the best in Europe, if not the world. It is not an easy course - nor was it intended to be. It is designed so as to call forth thought and precision for every shot. The San Roque Resort can boast two excellent and very testing championship layouts, just ask the budding professionals who have attended this, the home of the European Tour’s qualifying school. Also on the premises is an excellent Japanese restaurant, “Kamakura” and top-quality villa-style accommodations.

Turnberry Kintyre Golf Course, Scotland: Scotland is full of legends, and in golfing terms they come no bigger than Turnberry. Imagine rolling hills, sandy dunes, a stiff breeze blowing off the Ayrshire coast. Before designer courses, before manicured greens and major championships, these lands inspired local Scots to play the game of golf. Beloved since its first formal course was built in 1901, Turnberry’s fairways have been shared by the game’s elite and casual enthusiasts from around the globe. The par-72 Kintyre, called so after the long, narrow peninsula lying beyond the Isle of Arran in the Irish Sea, is another exhilarating championship course. Noted English architect Donald Steel has revised the old Arran course, originally constructed in 1909, into a 6,861-yard course that incorporates a set of turbulent swells in elevation.

The Palmer Course at the K Club, Straffan, Ireland: Recognized as one of Europe’s greatest golf courses, The Palmer Ryder Cup Course is absolutely dripping with nostalgia. This golf creation allows the golfer to test their game in all aspects. The absolute beauty, with mature gardens and the River Liffey meandering through the grounds, allows for natural habitat to thrive on the 150 acres that is the K Club. The island 16th, moon-shaped 17th and dog-leg par five 18th are the most wonderful finishing golf holes that you will experience. The course also includes the famous first, where many have strayed under pressure, Arnold’s favorite fourth, par-five bunker heaven and Michael’s favorite par four seventh, where an accurate shot over the pond requires skill and endeavor. Enjoy the Palmer clubhouse with that famous Guinness on the balcony.

Poggio dei Medici Golf and Country Club, Italy: The Club offers a championship course and 16th century Club House, all within easy reach from international airports of Florence, Bologna and Pisa. The Tuscan countryside elegantly wraps itself around the course, with castles and villages, pine trees and cypresses all in view. The Course, designed by Italian architect Alvise Rossi Fioravanti and by professional player Baldovino Dassù, allows for four different playing routes within its 18 holes. As you play this fascinating course, you can also appreciate the typical Tuscan scenery, viewed from a vantage point near Scarperia. If you can tear yourself away from the golf, Italy’s most stunning city - Florence (Firenze) - awaits just a thirty minute drive away to the south.

With beautiful views across the Ria Formosa lagoon and out onto the Atlantic, San Lorenzo will test and probe your game in a wonderful scenic environment. The course features large fast greens and undulating fairways which meander through avenues of pine trees. There are some spectacular holes overlooking the sea, which border lakes abundant with wildlife. The 18 holes lie in the unspoilt Southeast corner of Quinta do Lago, bordering the Ria Formosa Estuary and salt water lagoons. The course was designed by the American golf architect, Joseph Lee; and the beautiful Bermuda grass fairways provide perfect playing conditions. The San Lorenzo Golf Course was opened in 1988 and takes advantage of wonderful topography on the Quinta do Lago estate, winding its way gently over undulating pine woodland.

St. Andrews Bay Resort, Scotland: There is nowhere in the golfing world quite like it - and nowhere quite as old. This, without doubt, is the home of golf. If you don’t get to play on the revered Old Course, there are six other wonderful links courses within a few minutes’ walk. Golf was the driving force behind the creation of the resort. The two courses, Torrance Course and Devlin Course were built by the U.S. firm of Denis Griffiths and Associates. At the heart of the two courses is a clubhouse with a balcony facing the sea. Off to the west is the skyline of St. Andrews. Across the bay is the lighthouse of the Carnoustie Golf Course. To the east is the 17th green of the Devlin Course, under which lies the remains of a 500 A.D. fort where Roman sentinels once watched for invaders from the sea.

Terre Blanche Golf Club, France: Hidden in a secret corner of Provence, Terre Blanche Golf Club offers two magnificent 18-hole courses. Designed by golf legend Dave Thomas, both courses celebrate the natural landscape of hills and valleys, winding through lush forests of pines and oaks. Golfers find endless challenges in the two courses, each completely different in concept and layout. Le Riou is a highly technical course requiring strategy and precision. The par-72 spans 6,005 metres (6,567 yards) and features impressive slopes and winding fairways. Le Château is the more demanding of the two and has become renowned as the showpiece of Terre Blanche. Adding the unmistakable character of the south of France are views of medieval villages across the valley and the Southern Alps rising in the distance.

The Ghost Spider incorporates the Monza Spider’s acclaimed “basketball court” system of alignment on the crown to further facilitate proper alignment. INNOVATION THAT REDEFINES INNOVATION FOR ALL

Press the Nissan GT-R’s accelerator and you feel more than raw power. Then GT-R’s powerful twin turbo takes advantage of a Premium Midship design for balance, where much of the engine sits back in the chassis. From start to finish, each GT-R engine is handcrafted by its own master engine-builder in a climate-controlled room. Uniquely brilliant, built to perform.

T

he Nissan GT-R’s four-passenger cabin features a sloping “aero blade canopy” roofline and a curved C-pillar “sword edge,” which expresses the distinctive GT-R identity, as well as facilitating air flow around the rear of the vehicle. The signature rear view of the GT-R is provided by its hallmark four-ring taillights, while air flow above and below the vehicle is managed by the functional rear carbon fiber underbody diffuser (extended for 2012), new rear venting, rear spoiler and large, integrated quad exhaust tips. The 2012 Nissan GT-R has a new look, new colors, new wheel design and, most important to fans of pure power, more horsepower under the hood. The 2012 Nissan GT-R’s advanced VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 now produces 530 horsepower and 488 lb-ft of torque – a result of modifying the boost pressure of the turbocharger, valve timing and air mixture ratio, and through reducing intake air resistance by enlarging the inlet pipe diameter. In addition, exhaust air resistance was reduced through use of an enlarged section of exhaust pipe. The newly refreshed front fascia features aggressive double aerodynamic fins and new integrated high intensity LED running lights. Additional plated parts are used for the headlight inner panels, enhancing the car’s strong visual presence. In addition, cooling performance for the muffler is improved and rear downforce is increased by about 10% through use of a new rear fascia outlet and new vents on the lower rear fenders that help remove air from the rear wheel wells. Newly designed larger diameter tailpipe finishers are also adopted. Six exterior colors are available, including two new colors: Deep Blue Pearl and Jet Black which replaces Obsidian Black. Other available colors are Solid Red, Gun Metallic, Pearl White and a limited production 4-stage metallic Super Silver.

Is There Fastest Way to Reach Chiang Mai? A Scoop of ‘Khao Soy’ ‘ Here’ can Get You There in Seconds! - By Simon Nathan

Khao Soy Som Tum

T

hai cuisine is regarded by many food connoisseurs as one of the best in the world. If ‘variety is the spice of life’ as told by John Keats, we can have a different meal every day in one full year, not literally but very much in its true sense! Here goes an interesting chat about the kaleidoscopic Thai food between me and my friends on MSN Messenger.

Steve: Boy...A few months back I had the chance of savouring an amazing noodles dish called ‘Khao Soi’ at a Thai r e s t a u ra n t i n N Y. No t m a n y T h a i restaurants here (London) have that dish and it doesn’t taste the same. I have come to know that it is one of the signature dishes of Chiang Mai. Since I am visiting Thailand soon, I love to go to Chiang Mai and thrill myself by tasting Khao Soi where it is originally born!

Steve: How far is Chiang Mai from Bangkok and how long does it take to reach? Me: Around 700 km and it takes about 10-12 hours by road.

Another friend (David), who was ‘invisibly’ watching the chat, joins: I agree with Steve 100%. Khao Soi isn’t like a normal meal...It’s something you crave and hunt for, even in Bangkok! It’s an egg noodle dish with a soup of coconut curry sauce that is pure indulgence for the tongue and it alone is a good enough reason to fly to its home in Chiang Mai. Here in Hammersmith, even a poor, bastardised version still beats any other Thai curry on the menu - especially the boring colour curries!

Steve: Is there a better way to reach Chiang Mai? Me: Of course, take a flight and you will be there in an hour. But with the time spent on getting to the airport, checking-in, immigration clearance, boarding, travel time and similar formalities at the destination, you have to count it as ‘4 hours’ to the least. Steve: Oh...That’s no better buddy! Can’t you think of the fastest way to get there? Me: Sure...I can. But first stop making fuss and tell me why you are so desperate about Chiang Mai.

Me: OK dudes...But no need to go on ‘hunting’ any more. Steve...When you arrive in Bangkok, just go to Café Boca at Hansar Bangkok Hotel and order your favourite dish. Just a scoop of ‘Khao Soy’ there will take

you to Chiang Mai in seconds!! Steve: Thanks Simon. But please keep yourself free to take me to Café Boca when I am in Bangkok. David: Hey...That’s cool man! But where’s the restaurant located? Haven’t heard of it. Perhaps it’s new. It’s been a year and half since my last visit and it seems that I should follow Steve! Steve when are you flying? Thus concluded the chat between me and my friends in England on last Sunday around 9 pm (local time). Until recently I too used to think like David because truly authentic ‘Khao Soy’, which renders epicurean pleasures to the palate, is hard to find in the City of Angels. But my visit to Café Boca proved our thoughts were totally wrong! When I took my first scoop from the Khao Soy bowl at Café Boca and put it into my mouth, I involuntarily closed my eyes. I couldn’t immediately notice my brain was trying to recall and compare the taste with that of the Khao Soy I recently had in Chiang Mai. A few sec-

onds later and probably after the taste buds in my mouth had stimulated the taste receptors by sending the ‘YES’ signal, I felt as if I was in Chiang Mai! Café Boca, the modern Thai restaurant situated on the ground floor of the fivestar Hansar Bangkok Hotel, has just spiced up its menu with an impressive set of finest dishes from northern, central, northeastern and southern Thailand. ‘Khao Soy’ from the northern city of Chiang Mai, Kuay Tiew Khaeg from the south and Som Tum from Eesan (northeast) are to name a few. The restaurant is famous among not only in-house guests but locals and expatriates residing in several condominiums and houses nearby. The modernity and sophistication are clearly visible in the restaurant interiors. Dressed in light wood, beige and grey colours boast luxurious and charming looks yet provide a cozy and relaxed ambience.

Incidentally, Hansar Bangkok won the prestigious ‘Best City Boutique Hotel’ award at the inaugural Boutique Hotel Awards (UK) on 27

Pla Kra Pong Tord Num Pla

October 2011, competing against some of the world’s renowned boutique hotels. A niche property opened just over a year ago with only 94 suites, the hotel quickly shot to fame thanks to its finest accommodation, fabulous French and Thai cuisines, exotic wines and, above all, unrivalled hospitality. Breakfast with finest pastries, breads, health drinks, quick snacks, bites on the go and casual lunches with a variety of delectable Thai and international dishes are the forte of Café Boca. Appropriately named (‘Boca’ in Spanish means ‘mouth’), the restaurant’s menu features gourmet sandwiches, Panini, salads, quiches and several palatepleasing modern Thai delicacies for your culinary enjoyment. The uncrowned king of Café Boca’s kitchen is Executive Sous Chef Satjia Thongsrikaew whose signature creations include Spaghetti Seafood with Spicy Tomato Sauce, Phad Thai Goong Sod (Fried noodles with fresh prawns), Poo Nim Tord Grob Lae Yam Ma-Muang (Fried soft shell crab with green mango salsa) and Poo Nim Phad Prik Thai Dum

‘Same-Day Solution’ to match your lifestyle

H

aving played golf all day and enjoyed a big meal during dinner, did you ever feel a burning pain in your chest after going to bed? Do you frequently experience acid reflux (backflow) of partly digested food coming back all the way up to your mouth? Are you haunted by erratic sleep patterns and the consequent daytime drowsiness?

What is the main objective of the Digital Endoscopic & Digestive Care Centre? A good diagnosis is not just noticing your condition, but also takes into account your individual lifestyle. The Digital Endoscopic & Digestive Care Centre has experienced specialists who can provide comprehensive treatment options with state-of-the-art equipment after considering who you are and how you live. We look beyond your signs and symptoms and will provide results of all digestive investigations within one day.

If your answer is ‘yes’ to the above questions, you could be suffering from a medical condition called ‘heartburn’. Heartburn, also known as acid reflux, is a painful and burning sensation in the esophagus, usually associated with regurgitation of gastric acid. The pain often rises in the chest just behind the breastbone and may radiate to the neck, throat, or angle of the jaw.

Could you please explain about the ‘same-day solution’ provided by the centre? Minutes can feel like hours and days like weeks for the patients who await the results of their diagnostic tests. We truly understand this feeling. You want certainty as soon as possible. With modern equipment and facilities, our experienced team of specialists performs every endoscopic procedure and you can see accurate results within the same day.

For those who are suffering from heartburn and/or other digestive disorders, the Digital Endoscopic & Digestive Care Centre at BNH Hospital provides medical care tailored to patients’ lifestyle regarding their eating habits, their professional life with less physical activity, late night partying and participation in social activities, etc.

What services are offered at the Digital Endoscopic & Digestive Care Centre? The centre provides complete digestive medical care, including Digital Endoscopy, Ultrasound & CT Abdomen, H.Pylori, Fatty Liver Screening, Bowel Cancer Screening, Liver Cancer Screening, Capsule Endoscopy, Endoscopic ultrasound, ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography), Bravo Capsule - GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), Fibroscan, Manomentry and Chemo-Embolization.

The hospital’s Gastrointestinal & Liver Clinic has moved to the 3rd floor and is now called the Digital Endoscopic & Digestive Care Centre. RBSC ELITE talked to Dr. Suthep Wanichaphol, Gastrointestinal Specialist, to learn more about the Digital Endoscopic & Digestive Care Centre. Excerpts:

How could lifestyle be a significant cause of gastroenterological illnesses? Who doesn’t enjoy a really nice bottle of wine or those mouthwatering delicacies in parties? I know I certainly do! And these can become an indulgence that can affect many significant systems in our body. Gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD), obesity, or even worse, intestinal cancer are all proof of how we have been living our lives. I am not saying you have to stop partying and participating in fun activities, but you can be kind to yourself by taking more care of your health. Our centre is designed to be a one-stop medical service that will not only provide all the gastrointestinal treatments but also build a solid understanding of how to live a healthy and balanced social life.

Money Matters

After the Greatest Flood in the Century has gone...

...Why Not Set Up an Emergency Fund? - By Suthipong Sucharittanonta, CFPTM it is for emergency only! The emergency fund can also be prepared for job loss, medical expenses, or some other things that you would never ever thought of. How much the emergency fund should be? The sum of three to six months of your living expenses should be the sufficient. However, it depends on how big your emergency case is and whether you have any coverage from an insurance company. Let’s set up an emergency fund If you don’t have an emergency fund, let’s start your saving today. Open a new acoount to save this money without touching it. Let it grows every month at least it reaches your objective. One day when you in need it for an emergency, you will thank to yourself for setting up this emergency fund. If you find saving money to be difficult, start with a small amount but strictly save it every month until you reach your goal.

T

his year is not a good year for Thai people because we are facing the greatest ever water flooding of the century. I always used to think that Thailand was much better than other countries that we never had faced big disasters like them. When Tsunami waves hit Phuket a few years ago, we thought that it was the biggest disaster we have faced. Actually, it’s not.

Reminder: Don’t forget to buy LTF & RMF funds to save your tax! Another year has almost gone by. After we have been through the worst ever flooding crisis of the century, let me remind you that it is the time to buy LTF and RMF for tax savings purpose. There are many kinds of funds for you to choose. Please study the prospectuses of such funds thoroughly and evaluate the accompanying risks carefully before you buy.

Many people did not even have time to leave home during the recent flash floods. It was unbelievable that the flood water level climbed up to four meters in some areas. Most people were not prepared to face this kind of situation. Their properties have been lost and damaged. Some people who kept money and valuable things at home could not take them along. Some managed to carry important things with them by boat!

I wish you and your family Merry Christmas and A Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Is it the time to rethink? You should expect the unexpected. Be prepared for the next unexpected crisis that might happen in your life. You need to prepare yourself well in advance so you cope with that easily. In financial planning, you should split your money and put into many pots depending on your objective. One of the important pots is for an emergency, which called an ‘emergency fund’ or a ‘rainy day fund’. What is an emergency fund? When you are in an emergency, let’s say, your car has sank in the flooding water or has been admitted in a hospital due to a bad health condition, you need to use a sum of money to pay for those expenses. Therefore, an emergency fund is an amount of money that can be easily accessed for using only in case of emergency. It is not for buying a new car or new TV. Remember,
