Walks in August

These are the walks planned in August. Everyone is welcome to join us on a walk before deciding whether you would like to join the North Devon Ramblers.

Time-Out Tuesday Walks will be continuing with 5th August starting from Barnstaple Clock Tower at 6.30, 12th August starting from Bideford Victoria Park at 6.30 and the 19th August, which is the last one, from the Clock Tower in Barnstaple. All are welcome, dogs included!

Saturday 2nd August- Brown Willy Circular (Bodmin Moor). Meet at Rough Tor Car Park at 10.30. for a 9.5 mile circular moderate walk with some steep ascents. Please note that this walk is limited to 10 places- you will need to book in advance with Vanessa.

Wednesday 6th August- A Wander round St Giles in the Wood. Meet at 10.30 for a leisurely 7.5 mile circular walk starting at the car park behind the church and next to the parish hall. Follow footpaths, tracks, woods and lanes.

Sunday 10th August- Dartmoor Delights, starting at Bellever Forest Car Park at 10.30, this 8 mile moderate walk enjoys the delights of Dartmoor!

Wednesday 13th August- Amble around Brownsham, starting at 10.30. from Brownsham National Trust car park, this 7 mile moderate walk follows woodland paths and the SW coast path.

Sunday 17th August- Explore rural mid-Devon from Dolton village hall car park. Starting at 10.30, this 8 mile moderate walk will pass Dowland and Westlake to Halsdon Nature Reserve.

Wednesday 20th August- Molland and Molland Common. Meet at Molland Church car park at 10.30 for a 7m moderate walk with the opportunity to visit the church and the pub, if open!

Saturday 23rd August- Grand Western Canal Old and New. Meet at Lowdells Lock car park for a 10.5 leisurely walk taking in different parts of the canal. Lift- sharing as there is limited parking.

Wednesday 24th August- Arlington in Summer. A 6.5 mile leisurely stroll around the grounds starting from the National Trust car park at 10.30. - Down around Boscastle. Meet at 10.30 at a layby near Newton Farm on the B 3263 for a 9-mile moderate walk on the coast path and inland- some steep ascents and narrow paths, walking poles advised. Free family fun events with the Northam Burrows Rangers!

Stuck for something to do with the children this summer holidays? Check out what's going on at Northam Burrows. The enthusiastic team of rangers have a number of free events running onTuesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer break, to keep everyone entertained and get the little ones out in the fresh air.

Dates to add to your calendar are:

Tuesday 29 July, meet on the Westward Ho! slipway at 2pm to join in with the ‘Big Seaweed Search’.

Thursday 31 July, meet the rangers at the Northam Burrows Visitor Centre for the 'Big Butterfly Count.’

Tuesday 5 August, bring your teddy along for the Teddy's bears picnic - stories and crafts by the Visitor Centre.

Thursday 7 August, meet at Northam Burrows Visitor Centre at 2pm for a Bumblebee safari.

Tuesday 12 August, join the rangers for a ‘Rockpool Ramble’. Look out for the blue banner near the Westward Ho! slipway.

Thursday 14 August, have your buckets and spades ready for the sandcastle competition.

Tuesday 19 August, drop in at the Northam Burrows Visitor Centre for Pirate Day! Join in with the trail and crafts.

Thursday 21 August, ‘Flying high’! Drop in at the Northam Burrows visitor centre to make a paper kite or glider.

Tuesday 26 August, join in with the great nurdle search at the Northam Burrows Centre.

Thursday 28 August, the rangers will be rounding off the summer holidays with art of the beach. Meet on the beach near Sandymere lifeguard hut.

All activities run from 2pm to 4pm, unless otherwise stated, with no booking required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. For further details about each event, visit our website www.torridge.gov.uk/northamburrowsevents and social media pages or ask at the Visitor Centre and toll booths.

Bideford Cricket Club are delighted to announce that they will once again be running their highly popular Cricket Summer Camp throughout the school summer holidays.

Anyone between the ages of 6 to 13 are welcome and no cricketing experience is necessary to enjoy the activities on offer. Camp will run from Tuesday to Thursdays starting from Tuesday 29th of July between 9.30am and 12.30pm at Bideford CC cricket ground, Westward Ho with activities delivered by our team of qualified coaches. We aim to offer value for money mornings at either £10 per day or £25 for the three days.
