2025
Hello and welcome to the June edition.
I have recently taken over the running of the magazine from my mum, Lisa and look forward to continuing to provide this service to our local community as we have done for the last twenty years.
Father’s day is on the 15th June, make sure you spoil him!
You’ll be pleased to know that summer is just around the corner with the summer solstice on the 21st of June!
Time to whip out the BBQ’s and enjoy the summer sun along with the festivals.
Have an amazing June!
See you next month
Finally, if you would like to advertise your business to homes across Barnstaple and the surrounding areas each month, please get in touch.

If spray foam insulation has been installed in your property, it could affect its mortgageability when you decide to sell. The presence of spray foam between the rafters may make it difficult for potential buyers to secure a mortgage. Additionally, if left in place, spray foam can trap moisture and cause the rafters and timbers to rot over time.
Our professional roofing team can safely remove the spray foam from your roof. We will sand down the rafters, fill any damaged wood and treat it to prevent future decay. All spray foam will be carefully removed from your property and disposed of responsibly.

For a long time I kept it to myself. The anxiety. The anger. The pressure to keep going like nothing was wrong. Like many men, I thought staying quiet was just part of the deal. Then I found Man Down.
No pressure. No judgement. Just a room full of men, some talking, some listening, all understanding. That first evening I walked into a Man Down group, I realised I didn’t have to carry it alone anymore.
Man Down provides free, informal peer support for men struggling with their mental health. With over 35 groups across Cornwall and beyond, it’s a safe space to open up—or simply sit with others who get it.
You don’t need to fix everything overnight. Just take the first step. To find a group near to you, please visit the Man Down website. Let’s Talk About It. Visit mandown.org
Organisers of Pilton School's Class of '76 are aiming to contact nearly 300 pupils who left Chaddiford Lane in the summer of 1976, as they gear up to celebrate 50 years for what will be, for most, a Retirement Reunion.
The event, which takes place 'back where it all began' at Pilton School in what was then The Reception Lounge, will give an opportunity for those who attended the school between 1971 and 1976 to catch up and swap stories after 50 years since the day they finally left school to face what the world had in store for them!
1971 was a landmark for the campus at Chaddiford Lane. Formerly Barnstaple Secondary Modern School for Girls, it was the first time that boys formed part of the intake. It wasn't until a year later following the closure of Barnstaple Boys' Secondary Modern on Derby Road, that the school became fully comprehensive, adopting the name of Pilton Community College.
Carol Paton (nee Hughes) who was Head Girl from 1975-76 is heading up a team of former pupils to put the evening together. "It will be great to see everyone again", she says, "a fantastic opportunity to renew old friendships and find out what everyone have been up to over the last 50 Years!" She continues "I don't know where the time has gone so I guess my peers must all be feeling the same!. We are now either retired or not far off the big day, so there must be hundreds of funny and interesting stories that can be shared over a glass of wine!"
Organisers hope that as many as possible will make the journey to Barnstaple on Friday 20th June to be part of this special anniversary.
The team has set up a Facebook group ... Pilton School, class of '76 - Retirement Reunion 2025! … where it is hoped photos and memorabilia can be shared for all members of the group to peruse, and for those who attend on the night they will be treated to seeing themselves projected in all their former glory!
The team urge anyone who is interested to get in touch via the group for full details of the celebrations. Tickets are also available from Kings Carpets, Barnstaple.

The team of volunteers behind the successful 2024 return of Barnstaple Carnival are already busy at work ensuring the event's spectacular return for 2025.
They aim to make the event bigger and better than ever, again attracting record-breaking crowds to the streets of the town.
One item already under way is the refurbishment of the Carnival Carriage, which carries the town’s Carnival Royalty at the head of the parade.
"Some much needed 'TLC' is needed," says project manager Kev Behan. "The vehicle is structurally sound but it's the decorative element that has seen better days.
"We hope to have the new-look float ready for the summer when most local carnivals take place. It will give the 2024 Royalty a chance to complete their 'reign' in style before relinquishing their crowns to the successful 2025 recipients.
"As with everything," continues Kev, "It all comes at a price, and although we were able to give to charities as a result of last year’s collections on the day, this has been an expense we hadn't foreseen. We are hoping that the great people of Barnstaple may be able to help us out."
The 2025 team have set up a GoFundMe page for donations towards the project, which will see the coach restored and refurbished.
"We hope to make it good for years to come and have something that gives a good impression of the town when visiting other carnivals. Any amount, no matter how small, will be gratefully received and put to good use", says Kev.
