From Waffle Irons to a Global Strength Leader
For 30 years Eleiko manufactured small electrical appliances. Then, in 1957, an inspired idea reshaped our future.
Eleiko’s factory supervisor Mr Hällström, an avid weightlifter, set our to find a solution to barbells that routinely bent and broke. He approached Mrs Johansson, the managing director, with his idea and received permission to pursue the project. Partnering with a Swedish steel company, Eleiko developed a proprietary hardened steel — refined over time and still in use today.
A nod to our origin, the barbell was crafted with a signature waffle-patterned knurling. To complement this much-improved barbell, Eleiko produced a collection of metal weightlifting plates setting a new course for the company’s future.

The breakthrough moment came at the ‘63 World Championships in Stockholm, when Eleiko introduced the first barbell to survive an entire competition without bending or breaking, revolutionising strength equipment durability.
Our IWF Weightlifting Bars carry forward this 65-year legacy. They deliver the Eleiko Feeling — a distinct sense of balance, smooth and controlled rotation, dynamic flex, and signature knurling trusted by lifters worldwide.
Each bar is crafted at our headquarters in Halmstad, Sweden, using proprietary Eleiko Steel — a precise blend of strength and flexibility honed through decades of innovation, testing and competition use. Combining Swedish-made quality with responsible production, the bars are built from 97% recycled steel, with an 80% lower CO₂ footprint compared to the global steel average. They represent both engineering mastery and environmental responsibility.
The Optimal Rotation System™ ensures stable, controlled rotation that enhances lifter connection. Precision needle bearings and hardened inner races deliver smooth, consistent movement and minimise wear.
A patent-pending sleeve design reduces stress on key areas when bars are dropped, significantly improving fatigue resistance and extending lifespan. The self-locking mechanism and tight tolerance create a quieter, more stable lifting experience. Our dual lock system, dustproof seal, and recessed stainless steel end caps protect internal components and maintain smooth rotation with minimal maintenance.
Our signature knurling patterns blend expert craftsmanship with decades of athlete feedback, offering a secure, competitionready grip. The durable, Eleiko DN3 Chrome™ finish preserves knurling sharpness and barbell integrity through years of intense use.
A practical identification system supports efficient training and competition. Gold coloured end caps mark competition bars; silver marks training. A laser-etched ID Ring in the same colour clearly displays weight and model name, simplifying bar selection in busy spaces.

Precision Crafted Equipment
A New Standard in Plate Performance
Eleiko IWF Competition Plates set a higher standard for performance and durability utilizing our proprietary SBR rubber, a new patented design which distributes impact force, and precision engineered zinced steel hubs. A bigger edge radius makes it easier to pick up the plate from the platform or floor and the grooved rim supports a firm grip for better handling.
Slimmer Profiles
The plates are thinner to support heavier lifts. The thickness for each plate is 35mm - 10 kg, 39mm - 15kg, 50mm - 20kg and 58mm – 25kg. You can load 215 kg onto the 15 kg bar and 290 kg onto the 20 kg bar. This redesign allows +20 kg to be added to current world record lifts.
Precision Engineered
Plates range from 10kg – 25kg and are approved by the IWF and certified for competition. We calibrate them beyond the IWF standard and now hold an exacting tolerance of +/0.05%. The plates measure 450mm in diameter with a 50.5mm (+/- 0.5%.) center hole for a precise and secure fit on the bar sleeve.
Print and Customization
Plates have a smooth surface more easily tailored with custom designs for competitions and training facilities. The print is also more durable for longer lasting graphics as well. Plates can be tailored with custom prints on the rubber or decals on the hubs.
We tested our plates with 100,000 drops from 2 meters onto a competition platform, resulting in zero functional damage. This durability lets us offer an industry-leading 10-year warranty.

Eleiko’s new Competition Collar is the first to be certified by all three strength sports federations—IWF, IPF, and WPPO. The design features a proprietary TPE ring which compresses and rotates to secure the connection between the bar flange, plates, and collars, reducing wear on plate hubs and dampening noise. Eleiko’s distinctive 1.2 knurling on the lever and tightening wheel, along with the sandblasted grip contours, improve the loading experience. The compact design and indexed locking lever make for a more secure fit and smoother sleeve rotation.

The slim profile, knurled tightening ring, and indexed locking lever concentrate weight towards the centre of mass for less interference with the sleeve rotation and smoother lifts.
The intuitive ergonomic design with the sandblasted grip contours knurled tightening wheel, and locking lever improves loading experiences, while the moderate 1.2 knurling offers a secure and comfortable grip during competitions.
Added Load Capacity
The 60 mm Competition Collars are slightly wider than previous IWF collars but together with the redesigned slimmer IWF plates, it allows for more weight on the bar to support record-setting lifts.
Long-lasting performance with a 10-year warranty Material and finishing choices ensure lasting performance, while the redesigned locking lever system distributes the clamping force more evenly across the bar sleeve, reducing the potential for wear.

The patented sensor-ready sleeve accommodates an Eleiko Enode Sensor inside each sleeve. Dual data points capture accurate bar speed, force output and movement efficiency metrics, without disrupting lifting mechanics. Reference Solution
2024 IWF World Championships
As the official equipment provider for the 2024 IWF World Championships, Eleiko worked closely with the Bahrain Weightlifting Federation to deliver a bespoke competition solution for this historic event, held in Bahrain for the first time, from December 4 to 15, 2024.
At the heart of Eleiko’s involvement was a complete competition setup, including a fully equipped podium, 14 warm-up stations, and 50 training stations—ensuring optimal conditions for athletes at every stage of the event.
The design of the equipment reflected Bahrain’s rich maritime heritage. The competition logo, inspired by Bahrain’s Sail Monument, seamlessly merged the region’s cultural legacy with the spirit of the World Championships. The logo blended the iconic sails with weightlifting plates, symbolizing Bahrain’s history as “The Pearl of the Gulf” while emphasizing the global nature of the event.
The 10-day competition saw the setting of 29 new World Records, showcasing the global vitality of weightlifting and the remarkable performances achieved by athletes.
