STOP BEARING FAILURE
Premature bearing failure is a major cause of motor downtime and costly repairs. Helwig Carbon uses proven silver graphite technology in a variety of bearing protection kits (BPK) for motor shaft grounding. They effectively divert electrical currents away from the bearings, protecting them from damage.

Insulation maker with a strong and reliable supply chain

The folks at ELANTAS — which is headquartered in St. Louis — say they’re “excited to have the EASA convention taking place in our own backyard this year.” Visitors are invited to stop by Booth 623 to schedule a virtual lab tour or to learn more about partnering with the insulation manufacturer. A member of EASA since 1975 and an innovator for more than 100 years, ELANTAS plans to demonstrate its “invaluable experience in addressing customer needs” and explaining to visitors how the company has managed through recent challenges. Having invested “a significant portion” of annual revenue in research and development, the company offers what it describes as “a broad range of competencies and capabilities,” including UL testing and certification. During the pandemic, when many customers were working from home, the company was developing live virtual R&D lab tours to showcase areas where the company was able to partner with customers in its “market-back approach to product development.”
In the midst of recent supply-chain problems, ELANTAS has had a global purchasing structure that has helped the company navigate through many of the raw material shortages.
Static and dynamic motor testers

In Booth 602, Megger Baker Instruments of Fort Collins, Colo., will be displaying and demonstrating static and dynamic motor testers used in manufacturing, predictive maintenance, and repair. Megger will be showcasing a wide range of tough, high-quality hand-held instruments used to test electrical wiring and other components in domestic, commercial, and industrial facilities and other general business operations.
On the leading edge of motor diagnostics
MDS of Berthoud, Colo., is on the leading edge of motor diagnostics and will be at Booth 235 to share the latest information about its motor diagnostic systems. Senior applications engineer Gene Smiley has held forth on the “Electrification of Everything,” particularly the adoption of e-mobility, which Smiley says “is accelerating the rate of previously unanticipated applications for small and medium electric motors, especially replacing pneumatic, hydraulic, internal combustion engines and other ‘prime movers.’” Thanks to the expansion of e-mobility, motors with much higher power density than traditional induction motors are becoming widely available, and owing to supply chain disruptions, there is a rush to set up R&D centers and manufacturing facilities in North America. In short, “times are good” for a supplier like MDS, the company says, “and the customer base is expanding nicely. It’s a great time to be an EASA member!”
Brushes and holders made of special materials
Morgan Advanced Materials of Greenville, Ind., is a manufacturer of specialized products, including seals and bearings, made from such materials as carbon, advanced ceramics, and composites. This year the company is sending Donny Morrison, Mike McCormick, and Adriane Russi to the EASA Convention, where they will be displaying brushes and holders. The company is working on ceramics and thermals for future shows. This year “we’re planning for a good show and a great turnout,” the company says.
A motor manufacturer that continues expanding

Motor and drive manufacturer WEG is enthusiastic about the convention and business conditions overall. “2022 has been an outstanding year for all our business units, and we are very appreciative of our partnerships with EASA members,” the company tells us. “WEG continues investing in expanding our manufacturing capacity globally,” including the U.S., Mexico, and Brazil. The company will be distributing digital copies of its new 2022 Stock Catalog, which features new products for washdown, farm-duty, industrial refrigeration, fin fan motors, and IE3 Haz Location motors. Also showcased will be WEG’s new Data Viewer app in which users can obtain all performance documents, test reports, and drawings. The company will also be demonstrating its Motion Fleet Management platform. Never one to overlook the fun side of the convention, WEG will be hosting its popular hospitality event on Monday evening.
Inventory growth and new products
The goal of Rogers Equipment Sales at this year’s EASA convention, the company tells us, is to network with new potential customers and build relationships with existing customers. Rogers Equipment Sales will be addressing changes within the company in the past year, highlighting the growth of the company’s inventory and changes in product lines, and discussing goals for the future.

Stator, rotors, and load testing explained

Jasper Electric Motors, Inc., of Jasper, Ala., is inviting attendees to come by Booth 917 while in St. Louis. The company says it appreciates all that EASA members stand for and would like to take time to discuss how Jasper Electric can help motor shops with new stators and rotors along with load testing and VPI work. In a typical job (as shown in the above photo), a frame is received and the lamination fit is line-bored for new laminations. A new core is mounted in the subassembly, which has been core tested. Then it’s mounted in the main base. Upon completion of the job, it’s shipped to the customer for rewind and VPI. “Please let us know any issues we may help you with or problems we can help you solve,” the company says. “Again, we want to take the time to thank EASA and all EASA members for their patronage.”
Form-wound coils and winding supplies
The folks at Universal Coil tell us they’re looking forward to this year’s convention to see customers they haven’t seen since Covid and renewing the relationships. The company will be featuring, at Booth 830, its a-c and d-c form-wound coils as well as its winding supplies offered with coil sets. Universal Coil prides itself on customer satisfaction, quality, and service.
