Maximizing Performance with
Dear health and fitness clubs
For many years, a combination of selectorized weights, cardio equipment, a functional area, plate-loaded equipment, and a selection of fitness classes was considered the standard recipe for a successful gym. But with increasing member expectations and growing business challenges, what worked in the past is no longer enough.
Awareness of health and fitness is growing exponentially in our society. More people than ever before—from all walks of life—are looking for an effective workout experience that guarantees results as well as enjoyment. Fitness providers are faced with the challenge of catering for this diverse group of exercisers with different abilities and objectives in a single gym—all at a reasonable price and without significantly increasing the number of staff.
The EGYM Ecosystem is our solution that’s designed to overcome the current challenges and to help you grow your business and stand out from the crowd.

The start of the EGYM experience.
A key part of the customer experience is the onboarding process, which lays the foundation for a successful start to the client’s workouts. Gyms that provide their new members with the right induction from the start have significantly higher customer retention. Use the first contact and the onboarding process to show your gym in the best light and persuade potential customers to sign up for a membership.
Onboarding
Standardized processes from the start
The onboarding stage is the first step for new members of your gym. It offers them a chance to get familiar with the facilities, the equipment, and the range of offers.
Pro tip
Onboarding is much more than just showing a client where everything is. It’s a valuable opportunity for the gym to develop a personal relationship with its members and to understand their individual goals and requirements.
An integral part of the onboarding process is the initial fitness screening, where your trainers gather information about the potential customer’s physical condition, their health and fitness history, and their personal fitness goals. On the basis of this information, your trainers can then develop customized workout plans and respond to their individual requirements.
Useful tip
The “Fitness Screening” function in the Trainer App allows your trainers to save any important information about a member centrally and digitally in one place.
This is how it works:

Navigate to the member profile.
Click on the “Fitness Screening” area.
Press on the + symbol to start a new fitness screening.
This can be customized at any time, and is saved digitally and centrally.
Calculating fitness level and BioAge
Body analysis and flexibility tests with the EGYM Fitness Hub and other strength and endurance tests with Smart Strength and Smart Cardio tell your trainers about the current fitness level of your members during their first fitness screening. All data relating to health and fitness is automatically evaluated and then used to calculate their BioAge.
BioAge is EGYMs holistic health and fitness metric, which makes members’ progress visible to them and your trainers. BioAge is easy for members to interpret: The lower the value, the fitter they are. You can find more information on BioAge on page 35.
To calculate BioAge, EGYM uses a cleverly designed analysis that uses various factors that are scientifically proven to be related to physical performance, health, and the status of the immune system – a completely holistic approach.
Pro tip
Motivate your members to take regular strength tests. The more often your members use the BioAge feature, the higher the probability of customer retention. Once members have found out their values, they don’t want to “lose” them.
How to determine a client’s fitness level with EGYM.
The following checklist gives you a step-by-step introduction to working out the fitness level of your members.

Body analysis at the Fitness Hub
Using the Fitness Hub and the connected body composition analysis scales, all the relevant data on body composition is analyzed in a matter of minutes – including the member’s height, weight, fat mass, and muscle mass
Flexibility test at the Fitness Hub
Five different flexibility tests at the Fitness Hub determine your members’ mobility.
Smart Strength strength test
Maximum strength tests allow EGYM to determine the actual performance level of your members for each group of muscles. Subsequently, the optimal workout weight is calculated for each workout goal.
Your trainers can measure members’ endurance with the standardized step test on connected Smart Cardio machines. 1 2 3 4

Defining workout goals.
After your trainers have established a client’s fitness level, the next step is to set individual goals with the customer. The individual BioAge values show members’ strengths and weaknesses at a glance, and help to define workout goals. This means the customer can work on improving specific subcategories in a targeted way.
Creating a workout plan.
Using the client’s BioAge and chosen workout goal as a starting point, EGYM automatically creates a personalized training plan for the member, including the right training weight, the duration of sets and repetitions, and the frequency of workout sessions. Additional cardio & mobility exercises can also be added to the workout plan via the EGYM Trainer App.

Smart strength training in Circuit Mode.
After the onboarding stage beginners work out in Circuit Mode with EGYM Curve. EGYM Curve supports beginners to do the exercises correctly. It helps your gym members carry out the movements correctly and intuitively, and to work out in a targeted and effective way. The preview on the curve progression helps members anticipate the optimal time under tension. As a result, beginners can work out safely and gain confidence.
Pro tip
EGYM Smart Strength has some great surprises in store for beginners, right from the first workout: Thanks to its smart gamification, the workout is a lot of fun and makes it easy even for beginners to complete challenging sets.
The benefits of circuit training for exercisers:
For every workout session, all the settings are automatically adjusted based on the member’s current performance level and are continually adapted as they progress.
The EGYM Smart Strength machines create a workout program that’s individually adapted for the user, depending on their chosen workout goal.
Smart live feedback with EGYM Curve helps customers carry out exercises correctly and at the right speed, regardless of their existing knowledge or level of experience.
Regular strength tests measure the optimal weight for each machine and adjust these according to the workout results achieved on an ongoing basis.
Depending on the workout program, parameters such as training weight, number of reps, or workout duration are automatically adjusted for the individual user. An overview of the workout programs can be found on page 43.

Independent workouts using EGYM Smart Strength in Open Mode.
After the first few weeks, when your clients have built up a workout routine and experienced a full body workout in the Circuits area, the next step is to help these members transition over to the free weight area, where they independently work out with Smart Strength in Open Mode – with either an automatic or a self-directed program.
The benefits of Open Mode for members.
Advanced training methods challenge muscles in new ways that are not possible using conventional weights machines.
Smart workout tracking helps experienced members evaluate their performance and analyze their progress.
Regular strength tests shed light on the current performance level.
Personalized live feedback adapts to your members’ workout routine and provides either increased user guidance or more motivation for every repetition.
Accessible at any time with Guest Mode – no prior log-in required.
Pro tip
The correct way to introduce members to the gym and help them transition to workouts with EGYM Open Mode is a key part of the EGYM staff training, which can be booked with our Customer Success Team.

Workout
results you can see.
Smart analysis and tracking tools to keep members motivated.
One of the most motivating factors for gym-goers is regularly seeing their successful workout results – because it’s a lot easier to stay focused when you can see your progress.
Regular fitness checks and progress visualization.
Progress visualization and tracking is hugely motivating for gym members. Particularly during the critical drop-out phase, experiences of success are a very important factor in exercisers being able to make workouts a habit after their initial motivation wanes. Plan appointments with your members to carry out a fitness screening. You can also encourage them to regularly check in on their progress themselves via Self-Service, at the Fitness Hub, or the gym app.
EGYM BioAge:
Motivation from the start.
EGYM’s BioAge is an ideal management tool for helping your members stay motivated in the long term. Beginning with the initial fitness screening at the Fitness Hub, the BioAge accompanies members throughout their entire fitness journey at every fitness screening and/or when they use the EGYM apps, giving them a comprehensive overview of their personal progress at any time.
Trainers get a detailed overview of performance data in all four areas: Strength, mobility, metabolism, and cardio.

Additional features to motivate your members.
EGYM activity level: Collect points and stick with it.

EGYM activity points are particularly suitable as a way of motivating members with a low BioAge. Members are awarded points for every activity measured, from cardio and strength to mobility.
Once they have gained enough points, they move up a level. The fitter members are, the more effort it takes to maintain or increase their level.
Challenges: Awaken your members’ competitive spirit!

Challenges are a great way to create a sense of community among your members with a shared (workout) goal. They also help you add some variety to your more experienced members’ workout routines.
From cardio to strength: You can create various activity-based challenges for your members in the app and these can be combined with 3rd Party fitness trackers.
