The ancient Greeks elevated their diet in an element of culture:

Their diet was based on three major types of treatment that requires cultural progress ...BREAD-OIL-WINE They believed that their diet was a way of communication, entertainment and culture.

Nektar In the Homeric epics it was stated that the nectar was the first drink of the gods, such as the mother's milk for humans. Homer says that the nectar’s red colour is similar to the colour of red wine. The drink nectar as a kind of food first appeared at the birth of Zeus.

The Byzantine Empire was destroyed on Tuesday, May 29 th, 1453 when Constantine Paleologos XI was a King. It was then that the Constantinople was captured by the Ottoman Turks.

Of course dairy products weren’t missing from their diet. The Byzantines consumed limited quantities of protein foods. Their favourite food was the eggs. They were also familiar with sea food especially on coastal areas. Expensive fish were accessible only to rulers and rich families.

Although the Byzantines consumed fresh meat or salted (lamb, poultry, frogs, beef) the consumption was in general terms limited. This was due to the difficulty of their maintenance during the warm months.

How to Avoid Genetically Modified Foods Whether genetically modified (GM) foods are safe or harmful is still controversial. Most foods we eat may contain ingredients derived from genetically modified organisms --everything from baby formula and food to our dairy to even our meat. If you live in Europe, avoiding GM foods is easier since laws require labeling.

However in the US and Canada food manufacturers are not required to label if their food is genetically modified or not. As such, here are some guidelines for steering clear of GM foods in your diet, if that is your choice.

For ease of use in Europe, every additional has a code that consists of the letter -E and a three-digit number.

Colouring which give artificial colour to foods have the numbers from E100 to E199. Preservatives have the numbers from E200 to E 299, Antioxidants have the numbers E300-E399 and stabilizers the numbers E400-E 499.

Statistic research: Alimentary Habits and Food Conscience of Teenagers Identity of the sample • 84 Greek and 84 Dutch pupils • Age 15 years old

Results  Most Greek students rarely consume ready made food, they prefer traditional products, they are aware of the Mediterranean Diet, consume little meat, lots of dairy products, pulses and olive oil.  Dutch students in their majority have breakfast and meal with their family every day. They often consume ready made food, eat lots of meat, lots of carbohydrates as well as lots of pulses and fruit. The Greeks as much as the Dutch take exercise over three days a week, buy from the super market with a list and recycle food packaging in a percentage of over 50%.

Results When we asked two groups of pupils about genetically modified products it was proved that they didn’t know about them to a 60%. In the question who you think has the control of nutrition Greek pupils to a 75% answered that is a personal responsibility while the Dutch students to a 75% answered that this is a responsibility of the government and companies.
