HOMETOWN Just after scoring their 2nd No 1 Single and appearing at the 3Arena with Olly Murs, Hometown - a six piece group of singers from the four corners of Ireland, successful from almost 2000 auditioned by pop Svengali Louis Walsh – come to UCH for their first Limerick concert. Hometown’s debut single “Where I Belong” became the fastest selling single from a debut artist and the quickest selling single from an Irish artist in 2014, while their second “Cry For Help” also went straight to No 1 in the singles charts.

DON MCLEAN THE AMERICAN TROUBADOUR Don McLean is one of America’s most enduring singer-songwriters and is forever associated with his classic hits ‘American Pie’ and ‘Vincent (Starry Starry Night)’. Since first hitting the charts in 1971, Don has amassed over 40 gold and platinum records world-wide and, in 2004, was inducted into the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame. His songs have been recorded by artists from every musical genre, most notably Madonna’s No. 1 recording of ‘American Pie’ in 2000 and George Michael’s version of ‘The Grave’ in 2003, sung in protest at the Iraq War. Don’t miss this musical icon, LIVE at UCH this September!

THE LEGENDS OF AMERICAN COUNTRY SHOW Now established as one of Irelands No.1 Country Music Tributes, this show features the music of icons including Garth Brooks, Randy Travis, Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, Merle Haggard, Alan Jackson, Buck Owens and Johhny Cash. DYLAN MORAN “OFF THE HOOK” Dylan Moran, star of Black Books, Shaun of the Dead and Calvary is back with his new stand up show, Off The Hook. Moran who has been referred to as The Oscar Wilde of comedy, has recently been sharpening his deceptively rambling stand-up in unusual places including Kiev, Moscow and Kazakhstan – making him the first western comic to perform in St Petersburg. This new show, Off The Hook, his first UK & Ireland tour for three years, promises to deliver more of Moran’s unique take on love, politics, misery and the everyday absurdities of life all delivered with poetical panache.

THE LIMERICK FLING One hundred performers from five continents will come together to celebrate all the creativity, talent and passion that the Irish World Academy has to offer in this unique concert. Joined by musicians from Meitheal, the annual residential trad summer school, The Limerick Fling will be a spectacular flash of music and dance at the cutting edge of the Irish tradition. Expect noted musicians, singers and dancers as well as students of the BA and MA programmes.

Relive the magic of this cult classic on the big screen to celebrate its 30th anniversary! The Goonies is a 1985 American adventure comedy film featuring a band of pre-teens who discover an old Spanish map that leads them on an adventure to unearth the long-lost fortune of One-Eyed Willie, a legendary 17th-century pirate! FRANCES BLACK & KIERAN GOSS REUNION Following the huge success of their sold out Glasgow and Belfast shows in January, Frances Black and Kieran Goss embark on a Reunion tour in Ireland this November, 20 years after their last tour together. In the intervening years both artists have enjoyed huge international success in their respective solo careers, but it was the inspired pairing of these unique talents as a duo in the early ’90s that first caught the imagination of the Irish public.

REELING IN THE SHOWBAND YEARS “Reeling In the Showband Years” which has been a complete sell out in recent years, returns once again to UCH. RTE’s Ronan Collins is back as Host and Compere along with Brendan Bowyer, The King and living legend of showbiz for the past 50 years. The wonderful Joe Mac from The Dixies Showband and Gina from The Champions will be joined by Shaun O’Dowd from Ding-A-Ling, Keith & Lorraine McDonald and The Conquerors Showband, one of the greatest of them all! Beethoven’s Shorter Piano Sonatas Stuart O’Sullivan

Although most people associate Beethoven’s name with very large scale works such as the Ninth or Appassionata sonatas, the monumental was only one aspect of his musical personality. In this talk Stuart O’Sullivan looks at the shorter piano sonatas, which give us a much more intimate view of the great composer and cast a very interesting light on him. Illustrated with extracts from the works of Beethoven, performed by Stuart.

Listen as Ellen explores the story of Carmen, delves into the magnificent arias and recounts her personal experiences of bringing this iconic opera to life on stage.

chief O’Neill’s Music of Ireland Mícheál O Súilleabháin

Francis O'Neill (1848-1936) was born in County Cork, spent some time at sea, a short time working as a shepherd in the Sierra Nevada foothills, qualified as a teacher in Missouri and eventually settled in Chicago where he became Chief of Police in 1901. O'Neill's published music collections had an enormous influence on Irish music of the twentieth century. In this Recital-Lecture, Irish composer and academic Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin will perform many of the airs and dance tunes collected by O’Neill in Chicago.

Numerous restaurants can be found in the vicinity of the UL campus including the Castletroy Park Hotel & Tuscany Bistro (Annacotty).

There is no guarantee of late seating so please arrive early in order to avoid any disappointment. If not you may only be admitted during a suitable break in performance.
