IT’S ALL ABOUT DATA …

L’ORÉAL: BECAUSE YOU ARE WORTH IT In an effort to streamline the order process for salon owners, L‘Oréal Austria, assisted by EDITEL, recently set up buyIT, an online EDI portal. The new system is a match made in heaven: the selection is always up to date, orders can be placed 24/7 and on top of everything, it’s less work than before!

T

his service certainly strikes a chord with any salon owner. Thanks to L‘Oréal, salons anywhere in Austria now have the option of ordering professional hair care products online, 24/7. All it takes is a PC with Internet access! The new order portal was very well received by clients, in part because it always

includes the latest information about the L‘Oréal range of products. All users have to do is log on, review the suggested order, place the order – and it’s done! All order data is automatically transferred to L‘Oréal via EDI and processed. This means that even orders received outside the opening hours of the L‘Oréal customer service center can be processed.

Information is key to efficient procurement of goods processes: it needs to be accurate, reliable and readily available. If all those criteria are met, information enables flawless order processing and merchandise delivery. In addition, data helps comply with pertinent EU legislation. The uses of data can be quite multifaceted, but the management and exchange of data can be a challenge. Therefore, from an EDI perspective, the year 2014 is all about data consolidation. While the automated exchange of electronic data has thus far made processes more straightforward and transparent, the provision of even more client-relevant information is the next logical step. One example is our new eXite® Location Finder (see page 4), an online platform that also runs on mobile devices and which provides the latest location-related data from retailers, suppliers and logistics service providers. The Location Finder creates a bridge between automated order processes and physical delivery processes. We created buyIT for clients for whom EDI integration is not an option. It’s an order platform that enables them to view updated product information provided by manufacturers and to place their orders 24/7. L’Oréal Austria and its salon clients rely on buyIT (see page 1). A noteworthy service from the GS1 Group is the GS1 Sync B2C master data service. An informational event dedicated to this issue on 26 May 2014 attracted a large number of attendees (page 2). This platform enables manufacturers to make reliable article-related data needed for client information purposes available to retailers in a straightforward and efficient process. For integrated applications, all data is processed via eXite®. So: it’s all about data! Thanks to the services of EDITEL, handling data has never been easier. Happy reading! Peter Franzmair

Andreas Bübl, Supply Chain Manager at L‘Oréal, is impressed by the benefits of the new online EDI portal: “Until recently, salons had to place their orders via phone or fax. For our customer service staff, this order process

meant a lot of manual work. With our buyIT order portal, our clients benefit from added flexibility and they are always in control of the cost associated with their orders. This took pressure off our customer service team and concurrently increased delivery quality.” The new solution was integrated into L‘Oréal’s ERP environment by relying on the existing EDI interface to the centralized SAP system. Via this interface, master data and product-related data are uploaded to the portal. In addition, orders are received and

processed. Whether it’s a large retail company or the corner beauty salon, all orders are treated the same and processed reliably in real time. There is no need for time-consuming adaptations to the SAP system, and the benefits for L‘Oréal and its clients are substantial.” Mr. Bübl reflects on a successful project: “The implementation of buyIT allowed us to successfully standardize our order processes, which ultimately translates into even better service for our clients. One of our priorities was to have an intuitive and user-friendly

Suppliers to the automotive industry have now joined the ranks of those benefiting from the advantages of this technology for the procurement of goods. Several Hungarian suppliers have started exchanging logistics messages electronically with their business partners, relying on eXite®, an EDI platform. This helps them save money and resources in both the short and the long run. In addition to basic processes such as orders, despatch advices and invoices, electronic delivery forecasts (DELFOR) and the associated detailed process DELJIT (delivery just in time) are supported.
