Edison Language Academy – Together Through Two Languages (310) 828-0335 www.edison.smmusd.org

ANNOUNCEMENTS BOARD GAMES AND/OR DVDS – Our students have really been enjoying playing board games, card games and simple puzzles in the morning before school. If you have some childappropriate, simple-to-use games that your family is no longer using, please consider donating them to Edison. We can also use DVDs with children’s movies (Rated G) because there’s nothing quite like a movie when it’s too wet to go outside for recess! SHOPPING FOR EDISON -- The Edison Novica promotion will run through the end of the year, so if you have still have holiday gifts to purchase, check out the collection from artisans around the world at https://www.novica.com/edison/ and they will donate 40% of what you spend to our PTA. APPLICATIONS FOR NEXT YEAR – One last call for sibling applications! The due dates for sibling applicatoins to enter Pre-K, TK or K have passed. However, if you somehow missed this deadline but still hope to enroll a younger child in your family in Edison next August, you must let us know immediately and submit an application to move from Pre-K or TK to Kindergarten or from Pre-K to TK. PARENT CHORUS – If you were inspired at the Música en Español informances this week, join us for the Edison Parent Chorus! Chorus will begin meeting again on February 3 --Friday mornings from 8:30-9:30 am in Room 109. This program is funded by the Edison PTA to help build community. There is no charge and everyone is welcome. Come and learn some songs in English and Spanish and start your day with a song!

MUSIC IN SPANISH IS ON HIATUS UNTIL JANUARY 30.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK: HAPPY HOLIDAYS!! Last week, on a cold and rainy night, over 100 of us gathered for a wonderful family potluck and art night. Thanks to our partners at P.S. Arts for teaching us about some fascinating artists and guiding us in making art in their styles. Appreciation as well to our Edison PTA for organizing the potluck and creating a warm and festive environment for us to gather and enjoy a little fellowship at the end of the year. This week we are holding “informances” for parents and families of our TK, st nd K, 1 , and 2 grade students. We invite you to join us for your child’s Spanish music class with Maestra Jacqueline and hear what they’ve been learning this fall. When you’re on campus this week, it’s a great time to pass by the Lost and Found. You will see quite a large collection of sweatshirts, jackets, and lunch boxes. Please look through the racks and shelves and reclaim lost items – because the children will surely need them in the cold and rainy winter months! Friday this week is a Minimum Day – with dismissal at 12:25 pm for TK and K, at 1:35 pm for grades 1 and 2, and at 1:50 pm for grades 3-4-5. School will be closed for two weeks for the winter holidays and will resume on Monday, January 9, 2017. Our best wishes for a happy holiday season with your family and a warm start to the new year. It’s a great time to talk with your children about your family holiday beliefs and traditions – and make some memories together. Of course we can’t adjourn for two weeks without pointing out that books make wonderful holiday gifts! We hope you will encourage your children to read whenever they can during the winter break. Edison’s on-line learning programs Raz Kids, Kid-Biz, ST Math, and Reflex Math are available during the winter break if your children have time to use them. When we return in January, we’re looking forward to a visit from some of the young people who have grown up in the orphanages of Corazon de Vida in Baja California. Each year we gather donations of supplies and books for the orphanages and many Edison families have taken the bus to Baja California to deliver the supplies and visit with the children. It’s a wonderful experience for our students to hear from these young adults who have had very different and challenging childhoods and are now in college. If you’d like to be part of one of these exchanges, linger a little on the Tuesday morning of the first week back. We wish you all a warm and wonderful holiday season and peace and joy in the year to come! See you in 2017! January 9 First Day of School in 2017
