ANUNCIOS

(310) 828-0335 www.edison.smmusd.org

¡Tenemos sugerencias! Miércoles, 9/21, 8:30 am Reunión de Asociación de la PTA - Cafetería

Miércoles, 9/28 Comienzo Tentativo de la Recaudación de Fondos Perro Azul

Jueves, 9/29 Fecha Tentativa de Comienzo para Inteligencias Escolares – ¡APUNTENSE YA!

And if you buy any products that have Box Tops for Education logo, cut them out, bring them to school on Wednesdays before Nov. 1 and we’ll turn them into cash for Edison! Música en Español: After School Chorus begins this week on Monday afternoons. rd th The program is available to children in 3 and 4 grades and meets from 3:10 to 4:10 p.m. in Room 107. Some spaces are still available so sign up now! Spanish Phonics Workshops – Edison is offering a workshop to help parents learn to sight read and sound out words in Spanish and help emergent readers. Parents of TK and K students are especially encouraged to attend. See the sign up sheets and times on the K bulletin board and grab a spot.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK: FOLLOWING UP FROM BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT Thanks to all of you who were able to come to one of Edison’s Back to School Nights and learn about our schoolwide programs and the plans and policies of your child’s teacher. It was wonderful to see so many families and hear your questions. It really makes a difference when parents and teachers are able to connect early in the year to share information and start building a relationship that will grow all year. If you were unable to come to BTSN, please contact your child’s teacher as soon as possible. All the teachers had handouts and some have digital presentations that they can share with you so that you have the same information as the other parents in the class. Edison teachers want to work collaboratively with parents and each sets aside time to consult and answer questions. Each teacher’s schedule is a little different, so leave the teacher a voice mail or an email, or drop a note in the office requesting a meeting and he or she will get back to you as soon as possible. None of our teachers are available on Wednesday afternoons because immediately after dismissal we begin our professional development meetings. Thank you for starting strong with consistent and on-time attendance! This is such an important habit to establish early in the year! Our Senior Office Specialist Kathy Fargnoli is calling home to check on absences daily – both to keep our records accurate and encourage good attendance. If it appears that tardies and/or absences are mounting up, you’ll get a letter from me alerting you to the problem AND one of our staff members will be in touch to invite you to a School Attendance Review Team (SART) meeting and develop an attendance contract to see if we can identify and fix problems while they are still manageable. For young children – especially those who are learning in two languages -- EVERY SCHOOL DAY COUNTS! I thought I’d take this opportunity to respond to a few questions about food allergies and our schoolwide policy on birthday celebrations at school. Some classrooms are designated as nut free (marked with a poster in the front window and discussed at Back to School Night) because of the food sensitivities in that class. The school as a whole is NOT nut free but we do encourage parents not to send nuts for snacks and we all remind children not to share food from home. However, because we have a significant number of children with different food allergies, and to be inclusive and protect children’s privacy, we have moved to a schoolwide policy of no food treats to celebrate birthdays. Please talk with your child’s teacher if you would like to do something WITHOUT FOOD on your child’s birthday. We have suggestions!
