Students will report to school at their regular times (8:15 or 8:30 am) but dismissal will follow our Wednesday schedule (1:35 pm for students in K-2 and 1:50 pm students in 3-4-5. The additional time will help our teachers prepare classrooms for deep summer cleaning – keeping our campus clean and healthy for staff and students. Please add this to your calendar and note that both June 4 and June 5 will be minimum days at Edison. PS ARTS Family Art Night - Join us for a wonderful family evening this Thursday, May 7 at 6:00 p.m. in the Edison Cafeteria. PS Arts Teaching Artists will lead us in fun art-making activities. All materials will be provided and there is no cost. If you’d like to join in a potluck, bring a dish to share and come a little early! Parent Survey – The annual parent survey is going home in the Wednesday packet this week and is due back by May 22. Please take a moment to complete this survey as your feedback and ideas are important to us. Administration and Site Council analyze the data and comments carefully and use the information to plan next year’s programs and strategies. When the family survey is turned in, your child will also be entered into a raffle for prizes. New Piano-Thanks to the family of former Edison student Clea DeCrane, Edison has a new piano! Clea’s parents David DeCrane and Linda Cowgill donated their family’s beautiful upright piano, which has allowed us to replace an older and worn instrument. Thanks to the DeCrane/Cowgill family for sharing this instrument with Edison! Facilities Update – We can see daily progress on the site of our future playground! The building housing playground restrooms is going up and shade structures are being installed in several areas. Thanks to our Construction Superintendent and Facilities Team for finding a way to give us some more playground space now that the underground cisterns are in! The children are loving the new play areas and additional space!

As I write these words we have only five weeks left until the end of the 2014-2015 school year—the days are flying by! Important instruction continues right up to the end of the year, so please continue to pay attention to on-time arrivals and regular attendance. But there are also many different kinds of activities at this time of the year as we begin to bring the school year to a close. The Parent Information Center Bulletin Boards in the breezeway have all the special activities and events posted by grade level and teachers are notifying families of special events in their classrooms as well. There are a variety of year-end assessments in reading, writing and math and since we teach in two languages, that means we’re assessing in Spanish and English in the upper grades. Because we work with young children and we want to keep stress low, we try to space these assessments out and integrate them into the regular instructional program as much as possible. Thanks for your patience and cooperation as we work to give you a meaningful report on your child’s progress, strengths and focus areas for summer and next fall. There are also lots of special events at this time of the year as our students complete final theater, music, and choral poetry performances, Many classes are also taking field trips and planning yearend celebrations. Schoolwide, we have a PS Arts Family Art Night on May th 7 at 6:00 pm.; the “Are You Smarter Than An Edison 5 Grader?” game show on May 22 at 6:00 p.m., the Immersion Seniors Promotion on May 30 at 1:30 p.m., the Third Grade Wax Museum on June 2 at 8:30 am and th the 5 Grade Promotion on June 3 at 6:00 p.m. Our Open House evenings are right around the corner and your children are looking forward to showing you their work.
