FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK: WELCOME BACK! Here’s hoping that your family was able to enjoy some time together during Spring Break and the children are ready to begin the last eight weeks of the 2016-17 school year! During Spring Break, our Theater/Visual Arts Teaching Arts Martha Ramirez-Oropeza painted the mural in the amphitheater for 10 of those days! There is still work she’ll be finishing up in the afternoons this spring, but stop by and see the wonderful images that now cover the steps. We are hoping that Spring Break let us leave the Norovirus behind! The campus was deeply cleaned during break according to Department of Public Health protocols. We had quite a time getting that virus off our campus and I want to thank Nurse Rachel and our Health Office Specialists, Main Office Staff, Custodians, Teachers and Parents for working together to reduce the spread of the virus. Restrictions have been lifted but we are asked to keep up with handwashing protocols, reporting gastrointestinal illnesses, and keeping children home for 48 hours after the last symptoms. Thanks for continuing to work with us! While we were able to get the 5th Grade Catalina Trip rescheduled for March, the events that we had to post-pone until after Spring Break are now making April an even busier month than usual! You’ll see in the sidebar notices about dance showcases, the Big Show, the Jogathon, the Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast, Noche de Cesar Chavez and theater performances. Instructionally we’re working with students to help them make it to (or surpass) grade level standards in all subjects. Please help by making sure students are reading each night, completing homework and using Edison’s on-line learning programs so they can leave their current grade level well-equipped to be successful next year. Our older students (3rd-4th-5th) will also be getting ready for the State CAASPP tests in May. We need every day to complete this important work with students so please avoid any non-illness absences!
