ANNOUNCEMENTS JOGATHON IS WEDNESDAY, APRIL 6! - Please pledge (or ask coworkers, friends or relatives to pledge) to make a contribution for each lap your child runs. For example, if a child’s pledges total $1.00 per lap and the child runs 25 laps, then the child collects a total of $25.00 for the school from sponsors. Or you can decide on a flat amount to contribute. The jogathon replaces PE that day so we all run – with or without pledges. We will need parent volunteers to help with set up, attaching Lap sheets to runners, counting laps, passing out water, etc. Check out the schedule so you know when your child will be up and running: st K-1 grade: 8:45-9:20 a.m.; 2-3 grades: 9:45-10:20 a.m.; 4-5 grades 10:45 11:20 a.m. th 5 GRADE NEWS: 1) Panoramic Picture will be taken this Friday, April th 8 . FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK: APRIL HAPPENINGS Although it hardly seems possible, there are now only 10 more weeks left in the 2015-16 school year! Ten weeks packed with learning, moving students to mastery and beyond, culminating and special projects, assessments of progress, and celebrations! As we work together to help children meet growth targets by the end of the year, parents, please continue to press forward at home too. Support and encourage reading, homework practice, and at-home use of any of the individualized on-line programs that your child’s teacher has recommended. Contact your child’s teacher whenever you have questions or concerns. Ten weeks of focused effort can make a big difference for student learning. This is also the time of the year when we especially recognize the incredible contributions made by our parent community! Please mark your calendars for Wednesday morning, April 13 for our annual Volunteer Breakfast at 8:30 am. Our staff offers an informal light breakfast for parents and we hope you can linger a little that morning and let us thank you for all the different ways you support your child’s education and our school! We celebrate our 280 trained and registered parent volunteers and appreciate all that you do as classroom and library volunteers, hardworking members of parent organizations, and volunteer efforts at special events and fundraisers. But whether you volunteer on campus or not, when you talk with your child about the importance of giving their best effort at school and the importance of a dual language education, when you make sure that homework and nightly reading get done, or contact their teachers when you have questions or concerns, you let children know that their “job” of learning at school is important to you too and it makes a difference! A warm Edison welcome two new members of our team. Ms. Tina Gonzalez will joining us (part-time in April and full-time in May) as our new school counselor. Mr. Alex King will be returning to lead a 5th grade boys group and to cover any needs until Tina can join us full time. Tina and Alex work for Family Services of Santa Monica and are at Edison thanks to a grant from the City of Santa Monica. Your support means the world to our students! April 6 – PTA
