FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK: WISHING YOU A HEALTHY AND HAPPY WINTER BREAK Happy Holidays to all the members of the Edison community! However your family celebrates, I hope that you will be able to enjoy some fun family times together over the winter break. Before you head off on Winter Break, please check the Edison Lost and Found and reclaim your children’s lost sweatshirts, jackets, and lunch boxes. We have quite a collection and it would be nice to have these items back with their owners before the holidays! We’ll be sending a load of unclaimed clothing to a local charity in January. With colder weather and time off from school, children may be spending more time indoors right over winter break. Their temptation might be to sit in front of the television, computer, or game system at home. But, if it’s not rainy, try for outdoor time each day – going to the park, taking walks, or riding bikes. And don’t forget the pleasures of board games, art projects, or jigsaw puzzles! Elementary school children (even older ones!) love to be read to. Reading to children is an opportunity to expose them to literature beyond their independent reading level, stretch their vocabulary, talk about the moral issues raised in the story, imagine what might happen next, etc. If your children do have screen time and you have an on-line device at home, consider minimizing gametime and have them work on KidBiz, ST Math, Lexia, Discovery Education, or Learning A to Z a little bit each day. With more time indoors, it’s also easier to pass colds around. So remind your children to wash their hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and water. Sneeze into a Kleenex or their sleeve, not their hands, and avoid sharing pencils, touching each other’s hands, etc. During the holidays when daily routines and diets are apt to be a little bit different, It’s also a good time to pay attention to the immune system, with a little more sleep, more fruits and vegetables, etc. Wishing you all a healthy and happy holiday season!
