October 24, 2018 Dear Parents: Our fall Parent/Teacher Conference period is scheduled from Tuesday, November 6th through Friday, November 9th. It will be an opportunity for parents to receive a report of their child’s progress in school. It is also an opportunity for you and your child’s teacher to get to know each other better and discuss mutual concerns regarding his/her progress.

EARLY RELEASE DAY SCHEDULES WILL BE IN EFFECT FOR THESE CONFERENCE DAYS: Wed. Nov. 7, Thurs. Nov. 8 & Friday. Nov. 9.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: TUESDAY, November 6th will be devoted to a full day of Parent/Teacher Conferences. There will be NO CLASSES for students that day to enable teachers to conference with parents.

MONDAY, November 12th is Veteran’s Day Holiday, there are no class on this day.

Parent-Teacher Conferences are an important part of your child’s growth and education, so make sure you have consulted with the teacher and scheduled a conference. If you have a shared custody arrangement and would prefer separate conferences, please work with your child’s teacher to schedule those appointments. On the day of the conference, if an emergency prohibits your attendance, please contact the school immediately at (310) 828-0335 ext. 61-348 or 61-349 so we can notify the teacher.

EDISON'S 2018-19 SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL ELECTION Edison currently has two open School Site Council parent representative seats for two-year terms, 2018-2021.

WHAT IS THE SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL? The Site Council is a group of parents and Edison school staff elected to two-year terms to write and monitor Edison's annual Site Plan and develop the budgets for Edison's grant funding. The Site Council also reviews and approves the site Safety Plan. Half of the Site Council members are staff (teachers elected by peers, a classified staff member, and the principal). Half are parents of Edison students, elected at large by other parents.

WHO CAN BE A PARENT MEMBER OF THE SITE COUNCIL? Anyone who is: a) a parent of a student, but not an employee of the school b) committed to attending monthly Site Council meetings and learning about the school’s achievement data and instructional strategies c) willing to work cooperatively with other Site Council members to seek input, analyze data, and develop a Site Plan that meets school and district goals for school improvement.

Site Council works best when it is representative of all the parents in the Edison community.

WHAT DO I DO IF I WANT TO RUN FOR PARENT REP? Fill in the section below and return to the office by Monday, October 29. All confirmed nominees will be candidates on the Site Council Election Ballot that will be sent home on Wednesday October 31.

Elección del Concilio Escolar 2018-19 de Edison Edison ahora tiene dos plazos de padres representantes en el Concilio Escolar. ¿Qué es el Concilio Escolar?

El Concilio Escolar es un grupo de padres y personal de Edison elegidos por dos años para representar la escuela. El Concilio Escolar es responsable por escribir y supervisar el Plan Escolar anual de Edison y crear el presupuesto para los fondos categóricos de Edison. ¿Quién puede ser un miembro del Concilio Escolar?

Estimadas familias de Edison, Dear Edison families,

Como madres y facilitadoras de diálogos, queremos ofrecer una serie gratis de diálogos bilingües a la comunidad de Edison para proveer más oportunidades para que la gente pueda unirse a pesar de nuestras diferencias, y buscar maneras de trabajar juntos para el cambio social. Los diálogos se llevarán a cabo de manera contínua, por 10 semanas. Nos reuniremos cada lunes, empezando en noviembre, y cada sesión durará 2 horas.

As parents and facilitators of intergroup dialogue, we would like to offer a series of bilingual dialogues to Edison’s community in order to provide more opportunities for people to come together across differences and to find ways to work together for social change. The dialogues will be ongoing, for 10 weeks. We will meet Monday mornings starting in November for 2 hours each session.
