A poem of David. Let’s sing to the Creator. The voice of the Creator is on the water, it thunders with many waters, it’s strong, it’s beautiful. The voice of the Creator can break the mighty cedar trees of Lebanon, and can make mighty mountains — like Mt. Hermon — dance like a calf. The voice of the Creator is like fire, it scare even the desert, it can make the deer dance and clear forests. May the Creator give the People of Israel strength; may the Creator bless us with the blessing of peace.
Lecha dodi likrat kala, penei Shabbat nekabela.
Come, beloved, to greet the Bride, and let us welcome the Sabbath.
Shamor vezachor bedibur echad,

Adonai echad ushemo echad,

The One who weaves all together caused us to hear both “keep” and “remember”. The Infinite is one and oneness is its name in word and in beauty and songs of praise.

Arise! Arise! Your light has come! Arise, my Light! Awake, awake, sing a song! The Glory of the Infinite shines through you!

Let us go to greet the Sabbath for she is the Wellspring of Blessing. Annointed before the dawn of creation first to be conceived, last to be born.

Royal Shrine and regal City arise from the tumult of change. For you have been long enough in the valley of tears and the Holy One has tenderness for you.

Arise from the earth and become young again. Put on the clothing of beauty, you who are my People. By the hand of the sprout of Jesse, of the house of bread, let my spirit’s deliverance come.
Do not be shy or ashamed. Why do you cast yourself down into the depths? In you the poor of my people will shelter, and the City will be built upon her ruins. Vehayu limshisah shosayich
verachaku kol mevalayich

The destroyers will be destroyed. The swallowers will be sent away. And your God will rejoice in you as a groom rejoices with a bride.

You will burst forth to right and left and you will bring the Divine down to earth by the hand of the one who breaks through and you will be glad and rejoice.
*Everyone Rises and Turns to the Door to Greet the Shabbat*
Boi veshalom, ateret ba-ala

Come in peace, crown of your mate, in joy and in merriment among the faithful of your treasured people. Come, O Bride! Come, O Bride!
Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean— the one who has flung herself out of the grass, the one who is eating sugar out of my hand, who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and downwho is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly washes her face. Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don’t know exactly what a prayer is. I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass, how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields, which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done? Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?
–Mary Oliver, from New and Selected Poems, 1992

The word “Shema” means to listen and to notice. “Echad” means “one”. The shema is often described as noticing and celebrating the oneness of the divine.
VeShamru/And the children shall Keep...
Veshamru venei yisrael et haShabbat la’asot et hashabbat ledorotam berit olam.

The people Israel shall guard the Sabbath, to make it throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant between Me and the people Israel for all time, that in six days the Eternal made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day the Eternal rested and renewed the Divine spirit.
(from Rebbe Nachman’s “Likutei T’filot”)
I pray that I will find the strength to be alone, to stand among the trees and grasses and talk to You.
May the grasses, the trees and plants, awaken as I come, and send their life-force into my prayer; so that my speech and thoughts will be made whole.
I pray that the power of life pulsing through all growing things will flow through me, and I will know that everything is Oneness.
I pray, I ask, spirit of all life, hear these words that pour out from my heart. I stand before You, like the water, I lift my hands to You. Grant me strength to stand alone. And I’ll sing my soul, I’ll sing my soul.
“Amidah” literally means “to stand”. When Amidah-ing it is good to face east, towards Jerusalem and towards sunrise inspiration.
It is good to begin and enter the Amidah by taking three steps backwards, then three steps forwards, then stand in Amidah.
There is a written Amidah text and there is also the personal amidik prayer of the heart.
There should be no side talking during amidah.
Inside of the Amidah prayer there can be expressions of gratitude, asking, wishing, forgiveness, celebration, listening and more!
Basically it is a time to experience or imagine that you are standing before the creator of the uni-verse, the source of all life...
Adonai s’fatai tiftach u’fi yagid t’hilatecha
