Need a place to call my own for the time is near at hand

Grain for grain, sun & rain

Find my way thru nature’s chain

Time my body & my brain to the music of the land

Plant your rows straight & long

Temper them with prayer & song

Mother earth will make you strong if you give her love & care

An old crow watching hungrily

From his perch in yonder tree

In my garden I’m as free as that feathered thief up there!

Power of kindness Mamuse

G D D G

Oooh, I believe in the power of kindness. Oooh, I believe in the power of love. Oooh, I believe in the power of kindness. Oooh, I believe in the power of love.

We don’t know what’s coming, but we can help shape what’s ahead

With kindness as our currency, the common wealth is in our hands

So, give a little, give a little, give a lot, don’t stop A helping hand makes the world go ‘round, there’s more than enough.

Ooh, I believe in the power of kindness...

Look up now people, and keep your ears to the ground

We are the river flowing where generosity abounds.

So, give a little, give a little....

Ooh, I believe in the power of kindness...

The honey bee serves sweetness, only to help the world bloom

Bringing love to the flower, from the flower to the fruit, we could learn a thing or two

So, give a little, give a little....

Oooh, I believe in the power of kindness....

Birkat Hamazon - Gratitude for our Food

Psalm 126: Sung on Shabbat and Holidays

Shir hama’alot beshuv Adonai et shivat tziyon hayinu kecholmim az yemalei s’chok pinu uleshoneinu rinah. Az yomru vagoyim higdil Adonai la’asot im eleh. Higdil Adonai la’asot imanu, hayinu semeichim. Shuva Adonai et shiviteinu ka’afikim banegev, hazorim bedimah berinah yikotzoru. Haloch yelech uvachoh nosei meshech hazarah, bo yavo verinah nosei alumotav.

A song of ascents. When God brought the exiles back to Zion it was like a dream. Then our mouths were filled with laughter and our tongues with song. Then was it said among the nations: “God has done great things for them.” Truly God has done great things for us, and we rejoiced. Bring us from exile, God, as the streams return to the Negev; those who sow in tears shall reap in joy. Those who go out weeping, bearing sacks of seeds, shall return with joy, bearing their sheaves.

GROUP (LEADER REPEATS):

Y’hi sheim Adonai m’vorach mei-atah v’ad olam.

LEADER:

Birshut chaveirai n’vareich Eloheinu she-achalnu mishelo.

GROUP (LEADER REPEATS):

Baruch Eloheinu she-achalnu mishelo uv-tuvo chayinu.

ALL:

Baruch hu u-varuch sh’mo.

Let us thank God. Blessed is the name of God now and forever. With your permission, let us thank God whose food we have eaten. Blessed is God whose food we have eaten and through whose goodness we live. Blessed is God and Blessed is God’s name.

The First Blessing: Sustaining All

Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheinu melech ha-olam, hazan et ha-olam kulo b’tuvo b’chein b’chesed uv-rachamim, hu notein lechem l’chol-basar, ki l’olam chasdo, uv-tuvo hagadol tamid lo chasar lanu v’al yechsar lanu mazon l’olam va-ed. Ba-avur sh’mo hagadol, ki hu Eil zan um-farneis lakol, u-meitiv lakol u-meichin mazon l’chol-b’riyotav asher bara. Baruch atah Adonai, hazan et hakol.

Praise is yours, Righteous One our God, Ruler of all, who every day invites the world to a feast of goodness, compassion, and love. You feed us, you sustain us. you overwhelm us with your goodness. You provide for all. You love endlessly. Because you are so good to us, we have never lacked sustenance in the past, and we hope that we will never lack food in the future. This you do for your own renown, that we may know you as the one who sustains and supports all, and prepares the food each creature needs. Blessed are you, Provider, who sustains all.

The Second Blessing: Good Land and Good Food

Nodeh l’cha Adonai Eloheinu al she-hinchalta la-avoteinu eretz chemda tovah urchava, v’al she-hotzeitanu Adonai Eloheinu mei-eretz mitzrayim uf-ditanu mibeit avadim, v’al brit’cha she-chatamta biv-sareinu, v’al torat-cha she-limad-tanu, v’al chukecha she-hodatanu, v’al chayim, chein va-chesed she-chonantanu, v’al achilat mazon she-ata zan um-farneis otanu tamid, b’chol-yom uv’chol-eit uv’chol-sha’ah.

We thank you, Bountiful Divine, because you granted our ancestors a land desirable, good, and wide. And you took us out, God, from the narrow places of Egypt, and freed us from being at home in servitude. And for the promise you have written in all our bodies, and for your Torah-teaching which you impart to us, and for the limits of conduct which you made us know, and for life, for beauty, for love, with which you are so generous. And for the eating of food which you feed us every day, at every season and hour.

V’al hakol Adonai Eloheinu anachnu modim lach um-varchim otach yitbarach shimcha b’fi chol chai tamid l’olam va-ed, kakatuv: “V’achalta v’savata uveirachta et-Adonai Elohecha al ha-aretz hatova asher natan lach.” Baruch Atah Adonai, al ha-aretz v’al hamazon.

For all this, Incomparable God, we thank you and bless you, whose name is praised by ever-new expressions of life, for the Torah says: You shall eat and be satisfied and bless the Eternal your God for the good land you have been given. Blessed are You, Eternal, for the land and for food.

The Third Blessing: Compassion and Jerusalem

Racheim Adonai Eloheinu al Yisrael amecha, v’al Y’rushalayim irecha, v’al Tzion mishkan k’vodecha, v’al malchut beit David m’shichecha, v’al habayit hagadol v’hakadosh shenikra shimcha alav. Eloheinu avinu, r’einu zuneinu, parn’seinu v’chalk’lenu v’harvicheinu, v’harvach-lanu, Adonai Eloheinu, m’heira mikoltzaroteinu.

Be loving, Compassionate One, to Israel your folk, Jerusalem your city, and Zion your glory’s shrine. Remember David’s throne and the holy house, the Temple of grandeur where it was so easy to call on you. God, mother, provider, sustainer, you nourish and support and release. Release us, God, from all our troubles, and do not make us depend on human loans or handouts. May we depend on your full and open hand, so that we may never be shamed or disgraced.

Only on SHABBAT:

R’tzei v’hachalitzeinu Adonai Eloheinu b’mitzvotecha, uv-mitzvat yom hash’vi’i haShabbat hagadol v’hakadosh hazeh. Ki yom zeh gadol v’kadosh hu l’fanecha, lishbot-bo v’lanuach bo b’ahavah k’mitzvat r’tzonecha. U-virtzon’cha hanach lanu Adonai Eloheinu shelo t’hei tzara v’yagon va-anacha b’yom m’nuchateinu. V’har-einu Adonai Eloheinu b’nechamat Tzion irecha,uv’vinyan Y’rushalayim ir kodshecha,ki atah hu ba-al ha-y’shuot u-va-al hanechamot.

Delight, O Divine, in your commandments, and in this great and holy Sabbath, which gives us rest in your Presence. In your love, God, grant us that there be no pain , no worry, no oppression, no anxiety and no sighing. On this Shabbat Day, God, open our eyes to the vision of the consolation of Zion and the upbuilding of Jerusalem. For you are the keeper of salvation and consolation.

Uv-nei Y’rushalayim ir hakodesh bimheira v’yameinu. Baruch atah Adonai, boneh v’rachamav Y’rushalayim. Amein.

Make this world a place of holiness in our lifetimes as you rebuild Jerusalem. Blessed are you, who in building up compassion builds up Jerusalem. Amen.

Revere Yah, you who are holy within the Divine. Revering what is holy, what will you lack? When the lions roar, those who seek God will find good. Thank God who is good, whose kindness is ever in the world, who opens a hand and satisfies all things to fullness. Blessed is the one who who trusts in God, for God will be that one’s trust. I have been young and now I am old, but I have never seen the righteous abandon those who lack bread. The Divine will give strength to the people and bless them with peace.

Tips and Info for Guitar and Ukulele

Tips on using the chords in this songbook!

The songbook is designed to help you learn guitar and ukulele, so as you go the songs will have more new chords. Start with just Em and A and add from there! Enjoy!

When there is a chord in ( ) it’s optional, it’s there because it will sound better but may be harder to play. Play the song first without the chords in ( ) and then maybe later try the song again with them. They should be substituted for the chord before it, not played in addition.

If you are having trouble finding the right key to sing in, play the first few lines of chords without singing first, and then try to sing!

Tune your guitar E (Big/Thick) A G D B e (little/thin)

Turn the pegs on top (closest to your head/Lower pitched strings E, A, G) counter-clockwise to raise the pitch, and the pegs on the bottom (closest to the ground/higher pitched strings G, B, e) clockwise to raise the pitch. (and for each turn the other way to lower the pitch.)

You can use a digital tuner to help you or use this diagram to help tune by ear. For Ukulele use the same process, except the notes are G, C, E, A

Fix a DUD:

Whats a dud? A dud is when the string sound muted or “dead”, the sound isn’t sounding clear

TRY:

1. Pushing Harder

2. Moving Finger Closer to the Fret

3. Round fingers so Don’t Touch or Mute Other Strings

Transposition — What if its hard for me to play those chords or to sing in this range?! Use this chart to “transpose” or “convert” the songs into a different “key” with different chords.
