Your Community, Your News...

Eden Chamber of Commerce member, Eden-North Collins Pennysaver, has been a part of our community for the past 68 years. Long before the internet and social media, Patricia Nagel along with Allen Guest decided to offer Eden and the surrounding towns an opportunity for business and residents to advertise. So, along came the Pennysaver.

The current location of the Pennysaver building is at 8603 S Main St, Eden and was built in the 1960’s after a fire of the building that sat at that location previously.

Truly a family business - forty-nine years ago, Wendy Sutton, Paticia’s daughter joined the business – first by delivering the Pennysaver and then sharing ownership with her mom. Alongside Wendy is Wendy’s cousin, Sallie Carbeck Bigelow working in the office for the past 30 years. Sallie’s daughter, Jackie Bigelow works remotely getting the paper “camera ready” to be sent electronically for printing out of Cleveland. Remember the mention of Allen Guest? Well, his granddaughter, Kelly Hill is a part time employee helping with the layout and set up of our weekly Pennysaver.

PENNYSAVER

The success of the Pennysaver began so many years ago with local grocery stores, car dealerships, banks and pharmacies advertising weekly. When election time rolled around, political candidates advertised their credentials and promises for the future on full page ads in the Pennysaver. Currently, the Pennysaver continues to succeed by providing advertising for small businesses and organizations.

Delivery of the Pennysaver was first handled through the mail. As time passed, the need for delivery of inserts for local businesses grew. They developed a team of dedicated delivery personnel that stayed with them for many years. When gas prices increased, and advertising inserts from retail stores stopped, it was time to revisit the use of the postal service to deliver the papers. All Pennysavers are now delivered by USPS and available online at https:// edenpennysaver.com.

To support our community, the Pennysaver offers local obituaries and local news to be added to the weekly paper at no charge. If you have something newsworthy, don’t hesitate to email your news to penny@edenpennysaver.com. You can purchase your rubber stamps through the Pennysaver as well.

In 2014, the Eden-North Collins Pennysaver was named Business of the Year by the Eden Chamber of Commerce. They have supported our organization throughout the years, from Patricia being president and a board member to volunteering at the Corn Fest and donating gifts to our Christmas Sharing efforts. We thank them for their interest in our community and wish them continued success.

Side note – Patricia is enjoying her retirement and living life to the fullest!

Thank you Eden Chamber of Commerce!

75 YEARS OF SERVICE…

“Make yourself necessary to someone.” --Ralph Waldo Emerson

It is always good to be needed! How much richer and more meaningful our lives are when we know that someone is depending on us, needs us in their life, and looks forward to seeing us.

Think of all the people that you are involved with daily — your family, co-workers, friends, and neighbors. Even the chance encounters that fill our days give you an opportunity to make a difference for someone, to be necessary to them if only for a few moments.

Your existence is not an accident. It is crucial and vital and necessary to all of those you come in touch with during your life. We were each put here by a design that we can never understand. Don’t ever doubt that for a moment.
