Eden Respite celebrates Paris Summer Olympics

On July 17, 2024, Eden’s Respite Program celebrated the Paris Summer Olympics at their regular monthly gathering. On loan from the local chapter of the AFS program, were flags from all Olympic participating countries flanking the walls of the fellowship hall at the Eden United Methodist Church. Team USA Respite won gold medals in volleyball, chair exercise and bingo. Under the direction of Sue Eye, guests created Olympic torches, and paraded with them to the music of accordionist Dave Gawronski. Cook Karen provided a lunch of puréed French vegetable soup (portage aux legumes) and salad (Nicoise) accompanied with baguettes. Dessert featured poached pear crepes garnished with ice cream and hot chocolate fudge sauce. The Eden Respite program is celebrating nine years of existence. The Eden program was launched in May of 2015 and has a guest membership of fifteen and sixty three volunteers. The free Respite program, sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association, is designed to give caregivers of individuals with dementia, a four hour “respite” from their daily responsibilities, while volunteers care for their loved ones. A THOUGHT TO REMEMBER…

It’s time for the Eden Corn Festival!

For 60 years the Festival has flourished--thanks to community volunteers. It takes hard work and a lot of dedicatedpeople to make this all happen. Too many towns have seen their annual festivals fade away because no one cared to keep them going and no one wanted to do the work involved in putting them on.

While none of them expect it, the many volunteers who have kept the Corn Festival goingdeserve a round of applause from all of us for their dedication, hard work and commitment to our community.

Eden is known throughout NYS for its produce and wonderful sweet corn. The Corn Festival provides the perfect way to showcase our agricultural heritage. This is a time for all of us to be proud of our community as we welcome the many visitors who will head to Eden in the next few days. Lets shine!
