The Eden Miniature was the creation of William (“Billy”) Rennegal when he was only 9 years old in 1940! Billy received a toy printing press that Christmas. He decided to produce a local newspaper and he made it happen with the help of his mother (Doris Anderson). The newspaper’s first edition was February 1, 1940 with a circulation of 200 and it was free (it was funded through inexpensive ads of local merchants). The Miniature steadily grew over the years and became a larger sized newspaper produced twice each month (on the 1st and 15th of each month) developing a circulation of about 650. There eventually was a small charge for the newspaper (3 cents) with the paper distributed through the US Postal Service,
We currently have approximately 500 copies of the Eden Miniature. Reading them is like a trip back in time with many stories of local interest and we are certain our community will treasure them for generations to come.
We are still missing many editions of the Eden Miniature, especially for the early years of 19401942. We need your help locating these copies before they are lost forever. It is our hope and expectation that many copies remain in the closets, basements and attics of houses across Eden – perhaps in your home or the home of a family member or friend that lived in Eden in the 1940s.
If you or your family/friends have access to any copies that you would be willing to donate (or allow us to scan) please contact Sue Minekime (Eden Town Historian) at 716-992-3146 or Matt Byrnes (Project Manager) at 716-597-6739. We need your help in gathering a full set to preserve for the future. We appreciate your support on this project!

Profanity does not impress anyone. It exposes a person’s heart as being filthy “for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh” - Luke 6:45. A new heart created in us by faith in Jesus Christ as our Saviour will clean up a filthy mouth.

Various Benefits Of Farm-To-Table
Few things are more satisfying than biting into a fresh tomato right from the garden or seasoning a meal with herbs picked from a windowsill greenhouse. Restaurants recognize the value of such experiences, and more and more are relying on locally sourced products in their kitchens.
The farm-to-table movement is not new, but it has gained momentum as consumers become increasingly enamored with the flavor and environmental impact of locally sourced foods. The National Restaurant Association found that farm-to-table food was one of its top 10 trends for 2015. Furthermore, the group says that one in five consumers are willing to pay more for local food, and 41 percent admit that locally sourced ingredients influence their decisions when choosing where to dine.
FARMERS
Newcomers to the farm-to-table dining experience may not understand all the fuss surrounding this popular trend. The following are some of the key benefits of farm-to-table.
· Peak freshness and ripeness: Local produce ripens on the plant and can be harvested at the last possible minute before it turns up on a plate. This helps ensure that it contains the highest amount of nutrients and flavor, according to the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Food that has to travel further is often picked well before it is ready, ripening on the way to stores or other vendors.
· Better for the environment: Food that needn't travel far before reaching diners' plates saves roughly 500 gallons of diesel fuel to haul produce a distance of 1,500 miles. This conserves fossil fuels and prevents harmful emissions from entering the atmosphere.
· Supports neighboring farms: Supporting farm-to-table restaurants and other eateries keeps business local in two different ways. It not only benefits local restaurants, but it also directly supports neighboring farms, fisheries and other suppliers.
· Accessibility to seasonal choices: Farm-to-table eating provides a wide variety of in-season foods. This can translate into tastier foods because they are grown and harvested during their optimal growing season.
· Reduces factory farming: According to O.info, the informational resource powered by Overstock.com, farm-to-table and local farming can reduce reliance on large, profit-driven corporations that may focus on maximum production over animal health and welfare. Local farms may be more inclined to treat their animals well and institute sustainable practices.
· Learn about the community: A person might live in an area and never know that a local vineyard is in the vicinity or that a producer of straight-from-the-hive honey is nearby. Exploring farm-to-table resources can open people's eyes to local businesses doing great work in and around their communities.
Our doctors and assistant have been trained to use a digital scanner to view our patient's teeth in 3D. This is a no-radiation scanner and, in many cases, can eliminate the need to take goopy impressions of the mouth. This makes our appointments quicker and less risk of gagging during impressions. Eden Family Dental is continuously looking for ways to improve the dental experience for our patients and to accommodate everyone's busy schedule. We are currently accepting new patients, so please call 992-9511 to get scheduled for your comprehensive exam and cleaning! These scans transmit within seconds to our in-house dental mill, which employs CAD-CAM (computer aided design and manufacturing) to fabricate ceramic crowns within 40 minutes. This allows our patients to be fitted with their permanent dental crown at one visit, rather than returning in 1-2 weeks or wearing a temporary crown.

This past Saturday, the community showed up in a huge way to support the farms and families that were affected by the recent tornadoes in Eden New York. The benefit was hosted by the East Eden Tavern and the owner, Brian was extremely generous in his donation of the space, beverages, support, staff, and food. The volunteers (Becca Rice, Nicole McFall, and Sarah Whitford) were overwhelmed with the wonderful turnout and support from the community. Between 50-50, ticket sales, raffle, and donations the crew was able to raise a total of $5,100 to be donated to the community fund. "We are just so thankful we were able to do our part and show up for the community that we love" said bar owner, Brian Mathews.
To all those who came out to support or made a basket for the raffle, you are much appreciated, and it is a joy to work and live in a community that shows up for each other.
If someone was unable to make it to the event, but would like to make a donation, checks can be made payable to The Eden Community Foundation, Inc. and mail it to P.O. Box 96, Eden, NY 14057. Please note “Tornado Relief” in the memo area and include your name and address on the check.

Anthony (Tony) Alessi entered into rest after a battle with cancer, under the care of hospice and his loving family. Born and raised in North Collins, he was a graduate of North Collins Central School. He was married to “the love of his life,” his high school sweetheart Theresa Rose, for 65 wonderful years. He was blessed with 2 children and 3 grandchildren. His family meant everything to him and generously providing for them, was always uppermost in his heart. Anthony was an Insurance and real estate broker for over 60 years. He owned and operated his office in North Collins, NY after his father, who founded the business in the forties, died in 1969. His “baby brother” Joseph joined him in 1989 and they worked side by side until his death. Tony was active in his community in his earlier years. He served as Trustee of the village of North Collins. He was Police Commissioner, President of the North Collins Volunteer Fire Company, and Disaster Chairman of The Red Cross. He was a Rotarian for decades and served as President. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, a proud veteran who served his country in the Army from 1956-1958. He was also a member of the American Legion…just to name a few. An avid hunter, he loved the outdoors. Hunting turkey and deer were among his favorites. He enjoyed several trips out west and to Alaska as well as Canada for bear. Everyone loved his stories; friends young and old. Tony had a passion for gardening, especially his tomatoes and “cukes.” He loved to can while in his special basement kitchen. Eggplant, dill beans, club tomato sauce, and hot peppers were his specialty and he proudly gave it all away. Tony had a special way about him. An uncanny wit and personality made him especially likable and quite a colorful character.
He loved to give…everything from donations to religious organizations, dog biscuits to his four-legged friends, and candy to just about everyone he came into contact with. Maintaining his yard and doing chores gave him immense pleasure, along with barbecuing and cooking in his most recent years (with the help of his wife’s guidance). A proud Veteran who embraced and lived life to the fullest… He will be sadly missed by his family, many friends, and his community. Waking hours from Wentland Funeral Home Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 4:00 to 9:00 pm. With a mass of Christian burial on Friday, August 23 2024 with the Reverend James Judge, presiding, at 11 am Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church 2017 Halley Road North Collins, NY. Please assemble at the church. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Hospice Foundation, PO Box 590, Buffalo NY 14240.

A THOUGHT TO REMEMBER…
“Happiness comes not from without, but from within. It comes not from the power of possession, but from the power of appreciation.”
J. Walter Sylvester
The struggle to enjoy life, to be content and satisfied, is a constant one. In recent years, the fast pace of modern living has made the realization of contentment, peace of mind and true happiness even more difficult to achieve.
The secret is still the same — it lies in the mind. Those who are able to limit their goals, desires and dreams to reasonable ones, who keep in mind the lot of those less fortunate, who accept the world and people as they are, can still find serenity.
The key to inner happiness is not to be found in money, power, or position. It’s to be found in one’s mind — in viewing life with a realistic sense of proportion. Neither human beings nor daily events can threaten such an inner peace.
