New and exciting programming has been added to both Clubhouses, increasing the retention of our members daily attendance and enticing past members to rejoin We have implemented a new staff training program to ensure both sites are safe and fun

The NORTH COLLINS CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT has an immediate need to fill permanent & substitute positions in our Transportation Department.

*Bus Driver applicants must be a minimum of 21 years of age have a good driving record , already have or be willing to obtain a CDL class “B” license with a P & S endorsement, pass a background check, physical and drug screen. (Options available for CDL class “C”- call for more information). Free Paid Training to get your CDL provided to the right candidates. In March of this year, the Evans Historical Society hosted their monthly “Speaker Night” with NEW YORK STATE as the topic of focus. The evening’s extremely knowledgeable presenters were the amazing husband and wife team of Gifford and Sue Swyers. “Giff and Sue” are both retirees of the Lake Shore Central School System, members of the Evans Historical Society and certainly well-known members of our community! Their love of history shines bright and they had prepared a program that was fun and entertaining!

As Mr. Swyers stated in the beginning of the evening; we were soon to discover various things about New York State; “Things you never knew, things you forgot you knew and a few things you probably didn’t care to know! Their program was funny, interesting and yes, we learned quite a bit! The full house of attendees loved each and every minute of it!

After the presentation, we had time to visit and socialize. Edie Willer, a member of the Evans Historical Society, had brought a photo relative to the topic of New York State with her and we found it so interesting, that we asked her to prepare a story to share along with the photo - of which she graciously obliged. The following is told in her own words: “One of Angola’s “recent” residents, Edith (Anderson) Willer is pictured here at right when she was Western New York’s Maple Queen in 1957. She and contestants from Central and Northern regions (names unknown) attended the State Maple Festival in Syracuse and served breakfast to two governors, W. Averell Harriman of New York and Joseph B. Johnson of Vermont. Later, one of the other two girls was chosen to represent the entire state.

Edith’s father Willard Reynolds and other maple producers of Cattaraugus County began the Annual Maple Festival in Franklinville where she was chosen as “Western New York Maple Queen”. Her mother Marian Reynolds was the photographer who took the picture for the Olean Herald where she was on staff for 30 years. Edith is a retired Angola, New York mail carrier.”

We are grateful that Edith allowed us to use her story and photo(s) and we believe it ties in nicely with our continued learning about New York State!

The Town of Eden is fortunate to have an Emergency Squad, I know, I have made use of their service's. I remember our first Ambulance Service was provided by the David C. Laing Funeral Home in 1950. Mr Laing used to have help from Volunteer's like myself. One day we had to pick up a car accident victim, and rush him to the hospital. My experience taught me that I would not make a good ambulance aid.

Brian J. Bush

We remember with heavy hearts the life of Brian J. Bush, a cherished resident of Holland, NY. On Friday, May 12th, 2023, at the age of 62, Brian peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by the love and support of his dear friend. Brian, a proud U.S. Army veteran, served his country with distinction at Fort Hood, Texas, including overseas deployments. His dedication and skill were recognized through numerous awards, earning him the distinction of an Expert in Rifle and Marksman. Brian’s military service exemplified his commitment to duty and demonstrated his unwavering patriotism. Brian was a devoted son, caring for his elderly parents, Eldred J. Bush and Betty M. (Tiffany) Bush. He selflessly attended to their needs in their twilight years, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to family and love. His mother, Betty, joined her husband Bud in May 2022, preceded in death by Brian's brother Jeffery. Brian is survived by his sister, Peggy (Mardy) Von Harten, and is remembered by his nieces and nephews. A flag ceremony will be held at Holland Community Center, 3 Legion Drive, Holland NY,14080. July 30th, 11AM.

Audrey Helen D´Angelo, 79, of Eden, New York, passed away on July 14, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with ALS. Audrey was born on March 2nd, 1944 to Joseph and Helen Spaeth in Amherst, New York. After graduating from Amherst Central School District in 1962, Audrey was married to Giuseppe D´Angelo in January 1966 and began to raise a family. She was mother to Suzanne D´Angelo (Greg Cich), Maria Moran (John), Cristina D´Angelo (Jane Marcotte), John D´Angelo (Kristy) and Patricia Murphy (Stephen). She was a grandmother to Rachael Sadkowski, Rebecca Sadkowski, Sarah Kolasz (Sean), Margaret Moran, John Michael Moran, Sophia Moran, Joseph D´Angelo, Abigail D´Angelo, Ryan Murphy, Annabella Murphy and Stephen Murphy. She was a great grandmother to Olivia Sadkowski, Arabella Ocasio, Isaiah Ocasio and Brandon Hearst. During her lifetime, she was a homemaker, business owner and administrator in the healthcare field. She loved to travel with her husband Giuseppe both domestically and abroad with a particular fondness for Florence, Italy. Audrey was always surrounded by her family, enjoyed great meals and great laughs and loved to discuss and consider current affairs. Audrey had an unwavering faith and was an active parishioner at the Immaculate Conception Church in Eden, New York. She provided leadership in a number of different capacities within this church that included fundraising, educational programming and numerous other roles within the organization. She was a beautiful person both inside and out with a smile that would light up a room. She was compassionate, fun spirited, quick to laugh and was deeply loved by the people around her. Until we meet again in Heaven, you will be forever missed. Visitation was held at the Laing Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated from Immaculate Conception Church, Eden. Cornhole or Corn Toss is similar to horseshoes except you use wooden boxes called cornhole platforms and corn bags. Contestants take turns pitching their corn bags at the corn hole platform until a contestant reaches a score of 21 points. A corn bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point. If you can aim and toss a corn bag 30 feet, you can master the game of Cornhole. Stop by and give it a try!

Loss is always a part of life. Loved ones, friends, trusted leaders die and cannot be replaced. For each person who knew them, the sense of loss is different.

But each of us needs to take the time to recognize that loss; we need to take the time to grieve, to pause in our busy lives to reflect on the void that this person’s passing has created in us.
