Kearns Calls on Purple Heart Recipients to be Honored
Erie County, NY- Erie County Clerk Michael P. Kearns will again honor veterans that have been bestowed the Purple Heart by adding their name to the William J. Donovan Purple Heart Recipients Book of Merit. Kearns is encouraging veterans who were awarded the Purple Heart or their surviving family members to submit their request to his offce by August 1st in order to be added to the 2024 edition and be part of this year’s ceremony. Purple Heart veterans or their families must complete a short application that can be obtained online at erie.gov/clerk/PurpleHeartForm or by email at salutes@erie.gov as well as provide proof the award was issued. Those with additional questions can call the Erie County Clerk’s offce at 716-858-6787.
“I think it is important to honor the brave men and women who have served and sacrifced for our Country. They deserve to be recognized and I am pleased we can maintain a record of our local military heroes at the Erie County Clerk’s Offce”, stated Kearns. Kearns established the William J. Donovan Purple Heart Recipients Book of Merit in 2018 and has committed to add to the book each year with new recipients, which is now in its sixth year. The book is named after Buffalo native and leading advocate for the Central Intelligence Agency, William J. Donovan. Donovan would receive three Purple Hearts during his service in the military, and would go on to heard the predecessor of the CIA, during World War II. The complete volume of the William J. Donovan Purple Heart Book of Merit is on display year-round at the Erie County Clerk’s Offce in Old County Hall located at 92 Franklin Street, Buffalo. It presently holds fve hundred forty (540) names of those honored with the Purple Heart from Erie County.
Kearns will recognize the William J. Donovan Purple Heart Recipients and honor all Purple Heart veterans during a ceremony on Wednesday, August 7th which also serves as National Purple Heart Day annually. Complete ceremony details will be made available as the event date approaches. In addition, Old County Hall will be lit up purple, August 5-11th, in honor of Purple Heart Appreciation Day and in solemn recognition of all service members injured or killed in action.

Our doctors and assistant have been trained to use a digital scanner to view our patient's teeth in 3D. is is a no-radiation scanner and, in many cases, can eliminate the need to take goopy impressions of the mouth. is makes our appointments quicker and less risk of gagging during impressions.
ese scans transmit within seconds to our in-house dental mill, which employs CAD-CAM (computer aided design and manufacturing) to fabricate ceramic crowns within 40 minutes. is allows our patients to be tted with their permanent dental crown at one visit, rather than returning in 1-2 weeks or wearing a temporary crown.
We are currently accepting new patients, so please call 992-9511 to get scheduled for your comprehensive exam and cleaning!

A Patriotic “Spirit of 76” Float ready to join the Memorial Day Parade - May 30th, 1976
Last year, Anne Mitchell, resident of the town of Brant, came across this photo of a parade foat all decorated for “The Spirit of 76”. At that time, we didn’t have the names of those included in the photo, buttoday we do with thanks to Margie Pero. Our patriotic youths are (L-R): Louie Catalano driving the tractor, Denise Pero next to him. Front Row: Rosemary Kuczka, Chrissy Pero, Kevin Kuczka, and Jimmy Pero. Back Row: Angela Pero, Sherry Catalano, and Charles Pero.
We felt the story of the photo was worth repeating and so it goes: The photo was taken at what is today known as “the old Brant Town Hall”. Our country’s Bicentennial Year was 1976 and the founding of our great land was celebrated in all the states, towns, and villages in a variety of ways. The town of Brant recognized the country’s 200th Anniversary at their annual Memorial Day services.

On Memorial Day, May 30th, 1976, the town of Brant dedicated the Veteran’s monument in the then newly created Veteran’s Memorial Park at Brant Center. Dedicated in honor of those “men and woman who have served their country in it’s hour of need” and especially those who gave their lives for our freedom. The remembrance celebration consisted of a Parade, Memorial Day services, the dedication of the Monument and Park, a Historical Exhibit, and refreshments for all in the Brant Fire Hall. The “Evans Brant Central High School Band” under the direction of Peter Ciraolo played musical selections during the parade and throughout the dedication ceremony. David Schwartz of Farnham sang our NATIONAL ANTHEM.
In addition to the High School Band, local organizations participating in the parade were the four scout troops from Farnham: Cub Scout Pack 398, Boy Scout Pack 398, Brownie Troop 592, and Girl Scout Troop 592. Included as well, were members of VFW Post 1672 from Swormsville, NY and VFW Post 5798 from Evans, NY, antique cars of Mr. John Walker of Farnham and J. Carlton Winters of Brant, the Farnham Fire Dept. Marching Unit and Fire Truck, Brant Volunteer Fire Truck and Fire Police, and the Town of Brant Police Department.

That means a Dad should enjoy his children and count it a pleasure to have them. They should not be a pain or inconvenience to him.
As he tries to fashion them into good adults he will have to correct them in love like the Lord corrects us. Do it in love!

“Learn all there is to learn and then choose your own path.”
As we travel along life’s different paths, each of us has choices to make. We establish those choices according to our values and decide what is important or unimportant to us.
Life would be much less complicated if all we had to choose between was the good and the bad, between black and white. But life is filled with shades of gray, with variables. Choices are often between “good” things and “better” things, between “better” and “best”… and even between “our best” and “God’s best.”
The most recent graduates of Eden Central are starting off down new roads this week. There may be college ahead or other career options, but they are each starting off in ways that may take them far from their beginnings here in Eden. We wish them well in their choices.
