Alliance Members (l-r) Susan Wilhelm, Ruth Bucki, Linda Meyer, Richard Minekime, Susan Minekime and Carol Lewis present the Historic Sites map to Town Supervisor Rich Ventry
On May 22 the Eden Historical Preservation Alliance presented the Town Board with copies of its newly-created map showing many of the town’s historic points of interest. e map was designed to showcase 18 historic sites, and to increase awareness of the rich history that surrounds us.
e Alliance is composed of members of the Eden Historical Society, Eden Regional Farm Museum, Eden Cemetery Association, Croop’s Mill Site and Roeller’s Hotel. ey have joined together to advance their common goal –preservation and enjoyment of the sites that played a role shaping the Eden we call home today.
Supervisor Rich Ventry thanked the Alliance for its work, noting “ e map represents people of many talents working together on ideas to bene t Eden. Kudos to everyone who made it happen.”
Susan Minekime of the Alliance commented that they will be distributing the map widely. ey intend to use it as a catalyst encouraging residents, including students, to participate in future history-related activities. She noted that production of the map was possible thanks to a generous grant from e Eden Community Foundation.
In 2023 the Alliance hosted a popular Eden History Treasure Hunt, featuring visits to several of the historic sites shown on the map. e Treasure Hunt also was funded by a grant from e Eden Community Foundation.
e Eden Community Foundation is a non-pro t organization that uses “private giving for the public good.” Since its founding in 1999, the Foundation has made grants to improve Eden totaling more than $270,000. Grant guidelines and the application form are at the Foundation’s website www.edencommunityfoundation.org.
To obtain a map or learn more about preservation of Eden’s history, please contact Town of Eden Historian Susan Minekime at 716-992-3146.

Eden School District #7
Tracy Keller and Dick Minekime teamed up recently for some improvements to the District #7 Clarksburg School built about 1836 and the only one of the 8 Eden schools that remains in the original location and condition. Dick provided creekbank fill to offset ongoing erosion while Tracy tidied up the inside of the one room school pictured. Ed Krycia has also been involved in the ongoing improvements as well. Future plans include new curtains and a class reunion.

The Board of the Tribute, along with the Town Board, worked on a very sizable grant to further enhance the Tribute. As you know, if you went by at night, new lighting has been installed that lights up the entire grounds. It is really quite breathtaking. There will be more beautiful landscaping, a larger 2 sided sign, a Battlefield Cross statue and fencing. All this to beautify the area, show respect to this country’s veterans and make it a landmark of this community. So stay tuned as more projects get completed!

Few things are more satisfying than biting into a fresh tomato right from the garden or seasoning a meal with herbs picked from a windowsill greenhouse. Restaurants recognize the value of such experiences, and more and more are relying on locally sourced products in their kitchens.
The farm-to-table movement is not new, but it has gained momentum as consumers become increasingly enamored with the flavor and environmental impact of locally sourced foods. The National Restaurant Association found that farm-to-table food was one of its top 10 trends for 2015. Furthermore, the group says that one in five consumers are willing to pay more for local food, and 41 percent admit that locally sourced ingredients influence their decisions when choosing where to dine.
Newcomers to the farm-to-table dining experience may not understand all the fuss surrounding this popular trend. The following are some of the key benefits of farm-to-table.
· Peak freshness and ripeness: Local produce ripens on the plant and can be harvested at the last possible minute before it turns up on a plate. This helps ensure that it contains the highest amount of nutrients and flavor, according to the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Food that has to travel further is often picked well before it is ready, ripening on the way to stores or other vendors.
· Better for the environment: Food that needn't travel far before reaching diners' plates saves roughly 500 gallons of diesel fuel to haul produce a distance of 1,500 miles. This conserves fossil fuels and prevents harmful emissions from entering the atmosphere.
· Supports neighboring farms: Supporting farm-to-table restaurants and other eateries keeps business local in two different ways. It not only benefits local restaurants, but it also directly supports neighboring farms, fisheries and other suppliers.
· Accessibility to seasonal choices: Farm-to-table eating provides a wide variety of in-season foods. This can translate into tastier foods because they are grown and harvested during their optimal growing season.
· Reduces factory farming: According to O.info, the informational resource powered by Overstock.com, farm-to-table and local farming can reduce reliance on large, profit-driven corporations that may focus on maximum production over animal health and welfare. Local farms may be more inclined to treat their animals well and institute sustainable practices.
· Learn about the community: A person might live in an area and never know that a local vineyard is in the vicinity or that a producer of straight-from-the-hive honey is nearby. Exploring farm-to-table resources can open people's eyes to local businesses doing great work in and around their communities.

Bring a lawn chair, your family and friends, and relax with some
Today is the first day of the rest of your life.
We’ve all heard this old cliche a thousand times. We nod our heads and acknowledge it and go on to other things.
But really think about those words for once… Every day is a chance to start over. Every day is a day for new choices and new chances.
Even small changes can make a difference in your life. They can add excitement and newness to your life. In something as simple as taking a new route to work you may discover astonishing things. That’s the exciting part-- you just never know what you’ll discover until you try!
If you’ve been stuck in a rut and think you can’t make a change in your life, remember that every day that arrives gives you a wonderful opportunity to do something different, to be someone different, to make a new start.
