On March 30th, 2023 students and their families attended Eden Elementary Monster Math Night! Students were able to visit different stations which included; Multiplication/ Division Bingo, Multiplication/ Division dice/card games, Geometry/Measurement hands on activities and estimation jars that were all themed around MATH! It was so nice to see families working together to complete the stations while smiling and laughing their way through. News from North Collins Library

Nearly a dozen young adults are newly published authors after attending the teen writing club at the North Collins Public Library over the winter months. Their stories were recently bound and published in a single volume, The North Collins Pages, by Buffalo company Quality Bindery Services, Inc. Each participant received their own copy of the book. Additional copies are now on the library's shelf and available for checkout. During their time learning to write and edit their stories, the teens were able to speak with bestselling author Jennifer A. Nielsen in an Ask Me Anything virtual chat. The group is currently on summer break, but will gather together again in the fall. New participants, aged 12 to 18, are welcome to join. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual School Budget Meeting (Public Hearing) for qualified district residents will be held in the Lake Shore High School Library Media Center, 959 Beach Road, Angola, New York on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at 7:00 p.m.

FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Annual School Budget Referendum and Election for (1) approval of the Annual School District Budget for the 2023-24 School Year; (2) voting on a proposition regarding the purchase of replacement vehicles; (3) voting on a proposition regarding a Capital Improvement Project; (4) the Election of two qualified district residents to the office of Member of the Board of Education; and (5) for the transaction of such other business as is authorized by law, will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., in the Lobby located outside the District Office/Gymnasium of the Lake Shore High School located at 959 Beach Road, Angola, New York 14006.

PROPOSITION NO. 1

Shall the following resolution be adopted:

RESOLVED, that the budget for the Evans-Brant (Lake Shore) Central School District for the fiscal year commencing July 1, 2023, and ending June 30, 2024, as presented by the Board of Education in the amount of $64,484,689 is hereby approved and adopted and the required funds therefore are hereby appropriated and the necessary real property taxes required shall be raised by a tax on the taxable property in the District to be levied and collected as required by law. Adoption of this budget requires an anticipated 1.95% property tax increase, which does not exceed the statutory tax levy increase limit of 6.17%

PROPOSITION NO. 2

Shall the following resolution be adopted:

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Evans-Brant (Lake Shore) Central School District (the “District”) is hereby authorized to purchase the following replacement vehicles for use by the District in the transportation of students and general use by the District: one (1) full size battery electric powered 71-passenger school bus at an estimated maximum cost of

$440,259.32; and one (1) 30-passenger gasoline-powered school bus at an estimated cost of $105,650.80; for a total aggregate maximum cost of $545,910.12; with such aggregate cost to be raised by a tax upon the taxable property of the District to be levied and collected in annual installments as provided in Section 416 of the Education Law, with such tax to be partially offset by State aid available therefore, and, in anticipation of such tax, by the issuance of debt obligations of the District as may be necessary, not to exceed such maximum aggregate cost. No tax levy increase is anticipated for Proposition No. 2.

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education (the “Board”) of the Evans-Brant (Lake Shore) Central School District, Erie County, New York (the “District”) is hereby authorized to undertake a capital improvement project consisting of (i) the construction of alterations, renovations and improvements to the District’s school building and associated facilities, including improvements to recreation and athletic facilities, (ii) site work improvement for various school purposes and (iii) other appurtenant and related improvements, and the acquisition and installation in and around the foregoing improvements of original furnishings, equipment, machinery, apparatus and technology improvements, and other services incidental thereto; all at a total estimated maximum cost not to exceed $59,500,000, with such cost being raised by the expenditure of $10,000,000 from the District’s existing “Capital Reserve Fund, 2021” (said fund being established pursuant to a proposition approved by the qualified voters of the District on May 18, 2021), and with the balance thereof, not to exceed $49,500,000, being raised by a tax upon the taxable property within said District to be levied and collected in annual installments in such years and in such amounts as may be determined by the Board as provided in Section 416 of the Education Law, with such tax to be partially offset by State aid available therefor, and in anticipation of the collection of such tax, by the issuance of debt obligations of the District as may be necessary.

TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that applications for absentee ballots may be obtained Monday through Friday, except holidays, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the District Clerk’s Office located at 959 Beach Road, Angola, New York. Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk or her designee at least seven (7) days before the annual meeting and election (May 9, 2023) if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter or by the day before the election (May 15, 2023) if the ballot is to be issued to the voter in person. Completed absentee ballots must be received by the office of the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 16, 2023.

TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that military voters who are qualified voters of the school district may apply for a military ballot. Applications for military ballots may be obtained from the District Clerk’s Office and the military voter may designate a preference to receive the application and/or the military ballot by mail, fax or email. Completed applications for military ballots must be received by the District Clerk or her designee by no later than 5:00 p.m. on April 21, 2023.

TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that a list of all persons to whom absentee voter ballots are issued will be available for public inspection between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the office of the District Clerk on the five days prior to the annual meeting and election, except Sundays, and such list will be available at the polling place during the annual meeting and election. Any qualified voter may, upon examination of such list, file a written challenge of the qualifications as a voter of any person whose name appears on such list, stating the reasons for such challenge. Such written challenge shall be transmitted to the District Clerk before the close of the polls.

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS NORTH COLLINS CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT

Eden Family Dental has invested in two new pieces of equipment that we are excited to utilize for our patients.

Our doctors and assistant have been trained to use a digital scanner to view our patient's teeth in 3D. This is a no-radiation scanner and, in many cases, can eliminate the need to take goopy impressions of the mouth. This makes our appointments quicker and less risk of gagging during impressions.

These scans transmit within seconds to our in-house dental mill, which employs CAD-CAM (computer aided design and manufacturing) to fabricate ceramic crowns within 40 minutes. This allows our patients to be fitted with their permanent dental crown at one visit, rather than returning in 1-2 weeks or wearing a temporary crown.

Eden Family Dental is continuously looking for ways to improve the dental experience for our patients and to accommodate everyone's busy schedule.

Roger J. Edbauer

Roger J. Edbauer 86 years old, of Edgewater, Florida; previously of Eden, New York passed away on January 10, 2023 after a brief illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Diane (Zimmer) of Edgewater, Florida, 5 children: Deborah (Matthew) Byrnes, Carolyn (Terryl) Beverly, Diane (Jamie) Byrne, Joseph (Kristine) Edbauer and Jayne (Roy) Malphurs, 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; with another on his way. He is also the brother of Thomas (Shirley) Edbauer and Joanne (Robert) Yaeger and uncle of many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Howard & Evelyn (Kirwan), 4 brothers: Howard (Marge), Earl (Veronica), Gerald (Mary), Francis and 4 sisters: Marie (Edwin) Rosseler, Betty (Norbert) Schmitter, Jane (Bernard) Kieffer and Evelyn (Norman) Strobel. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Immaculate Conception RC Church, 8791 Main Street, Eden, NY at 11 AM. Burial at St. Stanislaus R.C. Cemetery, Cheektowaga, NY will be private. Mr. Edbauer was in the grocery business his entire career; including the Eden IGA (Independent Grocerers Association), Eden Bells Market, and owner/ operator of: Patchin Market, Patchin, NY, North Boston B-Kwik, and the Eden Super Duper. Throughout his life he was active in the Roman Catholic Parishes; ICC of Eden and St. Gerard’s of Edgewater, Florida. He and his wife moved to Edgewater, Florida in 2002; where he continued to pursue his love of gardening by joining The New Smyrna Beach Men’s Garden Club. Donations to Hospice of Halifax, Florida are greatly appreciated.

Theresa Jane (Mroz) Davis

Ret. Captain passed away on 2/24/2023 at his home in Florida surrounded by family. Dick grew up and attended school in Eden and never missed an Alumni weekend

During his 20 years with the USAF Dick earned a Bachelors Degree in Business Admin and a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice. Dick enjoyed golfing and bowling. He is survived by his wife, Jane of 61 years, son , Benjamin Willett and daughter Meshell Willett

Along with 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, as well as 3 sisters and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made in his name to the Eden Alumni Scholarship Fund.

Theresa Jane (Mroz) Davis, 61, of Eden, NY, passed away on April 17, 2023. Born on October 14, 1961 in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Henry G. Mroz and the late Irene M. (Smuder) Mroz. On November 12, 2001, Terri, as she was known to family and friends, married Terry L. Davis. Terri was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Eden High School and later earned her degree in Business. Terri was employed as a store manager for SaveA-Lot in North Collins, NY, up until her illness in April of 2019. She enjoyed puzzles and spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her husband, Terri is survived by children, Jason (Megan) Young, Jessica (Lou) Rauth, Ryan (Nick Ransbury) Hammond and Adam Hammond; grandchildren, Danielle, Elizabeth, Holly, Louie and Dane; siblings, Hank (Roxanne) Mroz and Mary Ann (Mark) Goehle and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, Terri was predeceased by a sister, Joanne Mroz. A Life Celebration will be held at a later date and will be announced soon. What a wonderful world of characters and stories reside in books… and what unforgettable places they take us to without ever leaving our homes! Getting lost in a really good book is one of the best ways to pass an evening -- and we’ve all stayed up too late at least once because the story was at a crucial point.

Is there anyone who never tried to beat their bedtime curfew by reading under the covers with a flashlight because they wanted to read just one more chapter? It’s one of the rites of childhood and something we all remember doing.

And how great that those friends we are waiting to meet in books are available to all at no charge-- at any public library!
