Eden Evergreen Cemetery Message to the Town

Did you know that the Evergreen Cemetery (EEC), the only historic green space in the center of our town, is a favorite walking space for many of our neighbors? The EEC has had a very successful year serving the needs of our community, and the Cemetery reflects the loving care the Board of Directors works to achieve. Special recognition and gratitude goes to Jeff Winter, Superintendent, for meticulously attending to every aspect of physical care, and to Kathy Gage for her stellar accounting and billing skills. Eden Family Dental has invested in two new pieces of equipment that we are excited to utilize for our patients.

Our doctors and assistant have been trained to use a digital scanner to view our patient's teeth in 3D. This is a no-radiation scanner and, in many cases, can eliminate the need to take goopy impressions of the mouth. This makes our appointments quicker and less risk of gagging during impressions.

These scans transmit within seconds to our in-house dental mill, which employs CAD-CAM (computer aided design and manufacturing) to fabricate ceramic crowns within 40 minutes. This allows our patients to be fitted with their permanent dental crown at one visit, rather than returning in 1-2 weeks or wearing a temporary crown.

Eden Family Dental is continuously looking for ways to improve the dental experience for our patients and to accommodate everyone's busy schedule.

GRADUATION ANNOUNCEDAirman Shane William Friend

We take great pride in announcing that Shane William Friend had completed his basic military training at the U.S. Air Force Lackland Training Base, Texas. For seven (7) weeks beginning January 2, 2024, Shane trained as a member of Basic Military Training Squadron (BMT) TRS 326/Flight 181 aka “Hooyah Bulldogs”. At the Airmen Coin Ceremony held on February 21, 2024, Shane, along with fellow recruits, received his Airman’s coin, signifying his transition from Trainee to Airman. Shane graduated with approximately 700 fellow Airman at the Graduation Ceremonies held on February 22, 2024. Shaneis currently completing the required technical training for his position in the US Air Force Security Forces. Shane is a 2023 graduate of Lake Shore Central Schools and is the son of Rebecca Friend of Angola, N.Y. and Ronald R. Friend of Brant, N.Y.

Martin G. “Marty” Walter, age 75, currently residing in Springville, New York died Thursday, March 14, 2024 in Mercy Hospital. Marty was born on December 21, 1948 in Springville, New York. He was a son of the late Martin P. Walter and Dolores E. (Guenther) Walter. Marty was a native of Western New York but spent most of his married life in Cambridge, New York. He was married to the late Carol (Scaglione). Marty was a renowned artist. His art studies started at an early age under the direction of Mr. Warren Long in Eden, New York. He later studied art at Rockland Community College and then at Rosary Hill College (now Daemen College). Marty served in the United States National Reserves as a Captain from 1973- 1985. He also was a fourth-degree knight in the Knights of Columbus. Marty is predeceased by his parents and his wife Carol. He is survived by two brothers, Noel (Kathleen) Walter, Russell (Kathy) Walter, two brother in laws, Jim and Joe Scaglione and several nieces and nephews and his best friend David Allard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date. He will be interred next to his wife in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Cambridge, New York. Loving father of Colleen (Brian) Nephew, Darwin (Lauren) Huff Jr. and the late Tara Montour. Grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Brother of Earl and the late Shelley Huff. James E. Benkelman

James E. Benkelman “Nerve” of Eden, NY died February 19, 2024 in Florida. He was the son of the late Charles Benkelman and Eleanor Girard. Brother of Thomas (Linda) and Gary (Cyndi) Benkelman and Dawn Lahnan and good friend, Gary Balone. Also survived by nieces Jennifer, Janine, Jaime, Nicole and nephew Joel. Jim proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1968 - 1972 He was also a member of the Steamfitters Local Union # 22. Creative solutions to problems have often come out of troubling situations if those involved truly look at their options and use innovative thought processes. But you have to be open to the possibilities that exist. Attitude makes all the difference.

Rather than tripping over a rock, sitting down, and bemoaninga stubbed toe, be the one who picks that rock up and uses it to make a bridge.
