The Benefits of Ayurveda Ayurveda is an ancient holistic medical system from India, based on achieving physical and mental harmony with nature, which has been practised for more than 5000 years. Ayurveda means “science of life”. Aya meaning life, and Veda meaning science. Ayurveda is a complete way of life, it is prevention-oriented, and treats the root cause of a disease rather than just the symptoms. Ayurveda views illness as caused by an imbalance in a person’s physical or mental constitution and therefore seeks to gently bring a person’s body back into a healthy balance. Ayurveda is designed to maintain good health, Ayurveda treatments include use of herbal remedies, specialist massage, nutrition tailored to individual Doshas, lifestyle and yoga exercises.

A face lift massage is a very traditional treatment in Ayurveda, a gentle massage technique which will leave you feeling rejuvenated, cleansed and uplifted. An excellent treatment for the prevention of wrinkles, the massage relaxes the facial muscles and stimulates facial micro-circulation and lymph flow, thereby promoting the generation of healthy, younger looking skin. It also activates the natural metabolism of the skin tissue and improves muscle tone, which in turn will improve the skins natural capacity to retain moisture. A very relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable massage which will leave your skin with a healthy glow, smooth texture and dewy appearance.

Initially it is recommended a course of six treatments to really benefit the ancient practice, and then once a month for maintenance. Similar to a standard facial as seen in salons, in the sense that you lay in comfort on a couch and have a cleanse tone and moisturise, it is more involved, this is truly relaxing, involving hot towels and aromatherapy oils, leaving you feeling truly pampered and totally relaxed, and the bonus is that your skin will look and feel totally invigorated. Treatment will last for an hour, and oils used to suit your needs and requirements, a face mask is applied and some techniques involved are gentle squeezing and pinching and sweeping gently across the face to really stimulate blood flow, whatever your skin type or colour you will truly benefit from this amazing tradition used by Indian historical culture, and still used today, why not treat yourself, you absolutely deserve it.

Fragrance in the Garden All gardeners would agree that gardens bring a wealth of pleasures, from the sheer joy of gardening and being in the fresh air, to the variety of visual feasts that change daily, seasonally and yearly as you develop your garden.

But while plants stimulate our imaginations and visual senses, they can also tantalise our olfactory sense too, with a range of smells from fruity to spicy, sweet and musky, citrus and savoury tones. From the sweetest perfumes to the most aromatic scents, a gardener should plan their garden with a view to how it will stimulate every possible sense.

Gardeners have been using fragrances for planting inspiration for a long time. From the sensory garden for the blind planted in London’s Peckham Rye park, to window boxes planted with lavender to waft relaxing scents into rooms on cool summer evenings, fragrance can be an incredibly rewarding cue for gardeners.

Fragrant Flowers Luckily for gardeners, nature developed a rich variety of fragrances for flowers to attract pollinators, with just as stunning flowers to provide a visual treat, too.

The options are extensive. There are many types of fragrant roses, with scents varying from citrus to floral, musky or even fruit-like. It is well worth noting that not all types of rose are fragrant, so be sure to smell before you buy!

Gardenias have a heavy scent and can be grown indoors and outside too. Nicotiana have a strong, sweet fragrance that is most pronounced in the evening. Sweet autumn clematis looks stunning climbing around a window or doorway, and can climb up to 25 feet. It covers itself in masses of fragrant starry white flowers with a gorgeous light scent.

Dianthus has a spicy smell, and the stunning oriental lily has a powerful hue, and varieties such as the famous ‘Star Gazer’ perfume huge spaces with their exotic scent.

in scent and thrives in shady spots. Sweet peas are a gardener’s favourite, famed for their gorgeous fragrances. Garden phlox, lilac, flowering crab apple, honeysuckle, jasmine, iris, hyacinth, heliotrope, sweet alyssum, peony, moonflower, and southern magnolia are all also notable for their wonderful fragrances.

Other Nose-Pleasers It isn’t just flowers that can tickle your olfactory organ. Most varieties of herb have a wonderful smell, just as pleasing as flowers, with less sweet scents.

Rosemary, thyme, basil, mint and garlic all have strong scents that would sit perfectly outside a kitchen window for easy access while cooking.

There is also nothing quite so pleasing as to harvest your own herbs to use in cooking.You should also not overlook the vegetable patch. Tomatoes have a wonderful smell when the fruit is ripening.

Where to Place Fragrant Plants When planting flowers or herbs with a strong fragrance, it is worth considering where you tend to get breezes in your garden and where you usually sit outside, or have windows or doors open, so you can best appreciate the smells.

These recommendations by no means exhaust the possibilities. There is a wealth of trees that also offer wonderful smells from alpine spruces to apple trees, from their blossoms to barks - the possibilities to plant an aromatic garden are endless. So go forth and experiment with what scents work best for you.

2U sing fingertips rub the butter into the flour.

3 Add enough water to make a dough.

5 S prinkle cheese to line the bottom.

"In times when many household budgets are squeezed it can be tempting to cut back on things like boiler services.

However, this could be a real false economy in the long run and problems can easily escalate from an annoyance to an emergency.

"Getting a service on your boiler is like getting your car serviced - it's something we use every day and can't expect it to run properly if it's not maintained."

The AA recommends householders fit a CO detector that conforms to the relevant British Standard and as with any detector, it should be regularly checked.

Carbon monoxide detectors cost around ÂŁ20 and should conform to EN50291.

Those that sound an alarm upon detecting CO are recommended in case a leak results in CO building up during the night.

The research also provides a stark warning for tenants as it shows that almost two thirds of people renting a property didn't ask to see their landlord's gas safety certificate when they moved in.

Indeed, according to the Gas Safety Trust private tenants are 50 per cent more likely to suffer a carbon monoxide incident than owner/occupiers.

Whilst you might automatically reach for a glass of Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc to mark the occasion, an excellent alternative is our Wine of the Month, the Paolo Leo Malvasia Bianca.

Paolo Leo Malvasia Bianca Salento IGT to give it its full name is made from 100% Malvasia grapes approximately half-way down the heel of Italy in Brindisa, Puglia. It is believed that the Malvasia family of grapes are of ancient origin, most likely originating in Greece. The name “Malvasia” is generally thought to derive from Monemvasia, a Venetian fortress on the coast of Laconia, known in Italian as “Malvasia”; this port would have acted as a trading centre for wine produced in the eastern Peloponnese and perhaps in some of the Cyclades.

Today this grape variety is widespread throughout the Salento area, and produces wines which offer delightful aromas and flavours of honey and ripe pears.

The Paulo Leo family wine-making philosophy, whilst using modern techniques, is to make wines as naturally as possible, only intervening when absolutely necessary. This Malvasia is completely unoaked and is aged for 4 months in stainless steel vats and 1 month in the bottle prior to release.
