ChatRoom How do you feel you have grown or changed as a designer since you entered the fashion industry? What have you learnt since you started out? Every fashion show, every collection, every outfit brings about a learning process which helps us hone our skills in the fashion industry. Initially when we started out there was so much figuring out to do for the whole team in every aspect of our brand. However, with more time and experience, we have a better grasp and vision of what our brand is and where we want to take it. Sania Maskatiya is about unique designs, adventurous experimentation with colours and making our clientele feel chic. The essence of our brand is the same but we are, and will continue to build upon it, banking on our skills and creativity. We have enjoyed the success and the learning process so far but are well aware that we still have a long road ahead of us which will bring only more knowledge and guidance to us. What’s it like to be in the industry? The fashion industry is both challenging and invigorating because there is so much potential but the industry is becoming more and more saturated. The challenges do however push us to make sure our work stands out. What are the key elements for you when designing a collection each season? As a team we look for unique inspirations that we can manifest in to a collection of new and edgy silhouettes and designs. What is the though process to fashion the pieces into innovative creations? At Sania Maskatiya we pose no restrictions to our imagination. The team comes together to reign in their creativity and mix it with cuts and designs that make our clientele feel fresh, beautiful, and classy. Your spring/summer collection which you showcased at FPW was very sophisticated, yet very feminine and fun. How were you inspired for this collection? ‘Khayat’ paid homage to the heart of fashion—the tailor. In our collections we take inspiration from a multitude of things ranging from art and nature, to our very own handicraft industry. This collection took inspiration from www.ebuzztoday.com

the hands that make fashion possible. What does it take to achieve professional success when the market is so competitive? Success comes when your brand is able to establish its individualistic style and aesthetics that are easily recognizable and make their own place in the industry. How would you describe your brand? Our brand is a platform of creativity which prides itself on producing innovative outfits that are both wearable, chic, and embody our distinct aesthetics. Do you scope out the competition, or are you so tailored in your aesthetic that it isn’t necessary? Every fashion designer has their own style. We usually focus on our internal progress as a fashion label and developing our own brand. How do you balance creativity with commerce? Fashion is definitely a business and while some members of the team primarily focus on design, we have others looking at supply, chain, marketing, sales etc. It is a collaborative effort which requires communication from all members of our team to make sure our designs are up to par but are also sellable in the market. How do you think your collection stands out from other designers? Our collections have their own design aesthetics with their own sources of inspiration, and I think that stands true for all designers in distinguishing their work. What excites you about Pakistani fashion? It’s always changing and you never know which direction it will head in. What is it that keeps your work ethic so focused? We have a vision and staying true to it requires us to have a very focused work EBUZZ

ethic. Keeping that in mind we don’t find it difficult to maintain such an ethic. Do you have any tips for our readers for the summer season? Tips in terms of fashion would have to be: have fun with colours! Tips in general would be: find a new hobby this summer! Where does the Pakistani fashion industry stand today when you look at the global fashion scene? The Pakistani fashion scene is blooming and growing but placing it in an international context we see that we need a lot of work to be put in to make a bigger name in the global fashion scene. Currently, Pakistan is lacking fashion infrastructure, governmental support, and standards that match international ones.

High fashion has definitely become popular and we think it’s a great market to step into because you get to create extremely wearable yet fashionable pieces.

We have a huge hub of potential but it needs to be given the right platforms and support for it to be nurtured globally. What does luxury mean to you? I define luxury based on how something makes me feel and the quality of the resources used to create it including craftsmanship. Luxury would therefore be something that makes me feel luxurious because it is created from a combination of the highest quality of resources. With so many fashion weeks happening, what is your opinion on ‘high fashion?’ Fashion weeks are great platforms for emerging talent and for current names in the industry because we get to showcase our take on what we consider high fashion. High fashion has definitely become popular and we think it’s a great market to step into because you get to create extremely wearable yet fashionable pieces. How would you define your signature design sensibility? We try not to limit the brand in that fashion but for the most part we are well known for experimentation with colour and our unique silhouettes. Furthermore, I think it’s harder to categorically develop a signature design sensibility because we try to bring something new to the table every time. What are your top five musthave items (beauty, electronic, music, book, accessory, etc.)? Phone, lip balm, sunglasses, lotion, and a colour of the day lipstick. What is the one item in your closet that defines luxury? My handbags! Any dream project? Taking the brand to an international runway in Paris, Milan or NYC!

Simple & natural summer makeup With summers fast approaching and the makeup starts melting, it’s time to change the makeup routine which we usually dont do. Girls normally stick to the same application procedure but a different kind of preparation is required for keeping everything intact. We need to understand the dynamics of skin care because makeup will only look good on a well maintained nourished and hydrated skin, so it’s not about layering and looking white, it’s about radiance glow and healthy shine on your beautiful face. So we will take you through a basic skin care and makeup routine which will help you to look fresh in the blistering heat.

Cleanse Cleanse & Cleanse Analyze Your Skin Type We first need to determine the skin type say if you have oily skin then you will wake up to the oily feeling on the t-zone or even on your cheek area. This type of skin may also have acne problem. For some it will be a dry feel on waking up or if worse the skin feels much stretched. The normal types are the lucky girls neither oily not dry just the right feel. If you are unable to assess then please consult your skin consultant she will be able to determine your type after doing your face mapping.

My first question to all my clients are you cleaning your face the answer is mostly yes but the product used is generally wrong, ok then what is the right cleanser? If you have dry skin then opt for a hydrating cleanser, if your skin is oil prone with acne issues then a sialic acid base cleanser will work well. Cleansing is a routine followed at least twice a day; remember all that dust and dirt that you see in the environment is also going on your face so please remove it.

Beauty

Moisturize is Watering the Skin Exfoliate Your Dead Layers Again most of us are exfoliating but not with the product that is as per our skin type so choose wisely after reading the labels carefully. Go for good brands they surely have the ingredients that you need.

www.ebuzztoday.com

It is indeed a difficult thing for a lot of women to understand the difference between oil & moisture, a lot of time I hear why my skin is dry when I have so much oil on my face. In simple words plants have oil in them but we still need to give water for maintaining the moisture level. Dry skins would need a hydrating moisturizer while oily skins needs a water based moisturizer please ask your skin consultant the right product for you.

The Make-up Game Sun Blocking Every woman who is conscious about her skin and wants to protect it should wear a sunblock; excessive heat makes the skin looks dark and dull. Right sun block for the right skin is a tough task, girls with oily skin should use a matt block & dry skin females should use a hydrating sunblock, normal skins being the lucky one can use a regular one.

Once you start taking care of your skin the make-up ritual becomes much easier, good texture implies less layering or coating of the bases. For makeup let’s first establish your colour tone from dark to medium-dark light to medium and light, assessing of skin tone is very important as we need to buy the right base. Mean while also look in to your skin texture both these elements together will help to get the best result. Skip liquid or cream foundations in summer instead use a light weight mineral foundation as per your skin colour, blending is very important to get a smooth tone do not go too pink or orange staying in your own colour range will give you the best glow and white is so out for summer look.

Concealing Colour Over Stated Do not go overboard with the concealing colour, at times we end up using not only the wrong colour but also an inappropriate amount, a concealer should be two shades darker to your skin tone and applied only on the darker spots shadows & blemishes.

Blusher that Blushes Apply light pink blusher on the apples of your cheeks, nose and hair line area. The colour selection should be as per your skin colour bronzers will make your skin appear darker so be careful while we are not looking at making our selves white at the same time we do not want a tan look. Staying true to your own skin tone is the right recipe.

Eye Shadow

Summery Lip

Select gold or pastels, best suited in the mornings. The technique is to apply on the lid area only it should not be applied in the crease area.

To protect your lips against the heat use a lip balm with SPF then select natural shades of pink coral or orange and top it up. We are adding shine to the lips not colour. So here’s wishing you a great summer up ahead!

MASCARRA A soft brown is always better then black to thicken the lashes apply a little it will bring out your eyes without being obvious and removing it also is critical do not leave traces of mascara on your lashes before going to sleep using a good eye make-up remover is the key to having clean eyes.

Wish you a great summer up ahead!

Beauty

EBUZZ

MAY-JUN 2015

Decorating nails with unique and beautiful shades is an evergreen fashion. The selection of right nail polish colour is bit tricky; there are many factors which have to be kept in mind while selecting a nail polish such as skin tone, shape of your hands, outfit, makeup, fashion trends and occasions etc. 01

Your skin tone

The first rule while picking a right nail polish is to choose the colour that complements with your skin tone. Usually dark nail colours look best for instance, fairer skin, while reddish shades go well for medium skin tones. You can try any colour if you have dark complexion.

02

Your outfit

Your outfit is also a factor which cannot be neglected during the selection of nail polish colour. Some nail pros consider that nail polish colour should never match your dress, while the others have an opponent opinion. Make sure to choose the nail colour that complements with your outfit.

03

The latest trend

If you want to choose perfect nail polish colour, you must have to pay attention to the latest trends. Blues, pinks, corals, purples and even blacks, all colours have ability to give your nails a gorgeous and modern look.

04

The occasion

Another tip to choose right nail polish colours is to picking up the nail polish according to the occasion. Neutral colours go well for regular use or business meetings, while dark shades such as like bronze, silver, and gold can be best choice for night functions. Red is an excellent colour which you can try for any occasion.

05

The Season

The season is also an important factor to keep in mind when it comes to choosing the right nail polish colour. Darker nail polish shades look impressive in the winter. Pretty bright shades enhance your nails beauty in spring. Summer is a best time for hot colours, neutral shades like bronze, gold, red, russet are excellent for autumn. www.ebuzztoday.com

Tête-à-tête

Up Close & Personal with

Cybil

Chowdhry

For you fashion is … Fashion to me is personal and comfortable. One show that you walked for and cannot forget about it? My first show in Dubai when I was 16. You love ramp walk or photo shoots? I love both. I love what I do. Makeup essentials that every woman must carry at all times I believe every woman should carry her own make up kit like Brushes, base, primers etc. Things you hate about fashion industry? Bitterness. How do you keep yourself fit? What is the secret of your beauty? I eat well and workout once in a while. What is your idea of perfect happiness? My children. Any memorable moment from the backstage of recently held PSFW ? Just had a good time and enjoyed walking for all the amazing designers. If you could have a chance to be one fictional character who would it be? Why would I want to be fictional. I am already a something people write about. Favourite food Biryani and curry. To relax yourself you need A book. For a model the most important thing is … Beauty and patience. Any one you admire in your life My sons.

Fall’s array of colours ranges from crimson to camel, and hues often appear side by side in nature. Apply the same logic to your home for a space that is inspired by the season. Here, a buttery shade of caramel colours the furniture, and spice orange and brick red are introduced on accent pillows. Attributes from nature, such as the hide rug and wide-plank flooring, continue the fall theme.
