The EBF organises the Recruitment Days, Entrepeneurship evenings and other career activities, which provide you with an excellent opportunity to get in contact with business professionals.

INTERNATIONAL The EBF enhances the international learning experiences of its members and encourages the interaction between students of different cultures. THE BENEFITS OF ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP Besides the professional and organisational experience you will gain by taking place in an EBF Committee, active membership offers you a lot more. It is a year full of fun and social activities whereby you will get to know not only your own committee members, but also many other active members. At the start of the committee year, all new active members are invited to join the New Active Members Weekend. During the year, the EBF organises several activities to relax and have fun besides your committee work. Examples are functional dinners, committee mixes, active members days, a Christmas dinner and celebrating ‘Sinterklaas’ together. The EBF enables her active members to participate in function specific courses, so that they will be able to develop themselves even more and optimally perform their tasks. Does this combination of professional and social experience appeal to you? Becoming an EBF Active Member might be the perfect challenge for you!

TESTIMONIAL ‘SVEN GOOS’ For me the reason to become an Active Member at the EBF was that I felt that I needed more practical experience besides my studies. Right now, as former Logistics Manager of the Activity Committee and Chairman of the ESR Budapest Committee, I can certainly say that the EBF has helped me to develop myself on both a professional and social level. By working together with your fellow students, you develop both your social and organizational skills. You cannot learn everything by book, competences like leadership and expectation management are learned by doing. Although at first sight practical experience was the most important reason for me to join the EBF, with the knowledge I have today, I would say that the social part was even more important to me. My time at the EBF has given me unforgettable experience and friends for a lifetime. They say that your time as a student will be the best time of your life. Your student time is about getting to know yourself as well. Who am I? What does my future look like? In my opinion Active Membership at the EBF provides you with the perfect opportunity to find answers to these questions by working in an environment where everyone is trying to excel and prepare themselves for their future. Being an active member at the EBF enriched my student life in personal, social and professional ways and it can be the same for you!! The Academy Committee is one of the largest committees of the EBF and therefore a very good way to meet new people and have great committee evenings. Additionally, it is a very instructive challenge to make sure your fellow students can study effectively.

ACTIVE MEMBERS COMMITTEE Every year, approximately 180 students take place in a committee of the EBF. The Active Members Committee makes sure these active members get to relax and have fun together aside all their committee work. This committee will be responsible for organising several socials and activities for all active members of the EBF. Examples of activities are the Active Members Christmas Dinner, Running Dinners, the New Active Members Weekend in February and the Active Members Day at the end of the year.

As a member of the Activity Committee you and your fellow committee members take on the challenge to turn every social into a great evening for all EBF members!

COMMERCIAL COMMITTEE The Commercial Committee is a great committee for those who want to gain more experience in approaching companies and making deals for the EBF. Together with your committee members you will focus on companies in and around Groningen. Tasks include managing the company portfolio, acquiring deals for the Membership Value Card, assisting other committees in their acquisition activities and developing new commercial opportunities and projects for the EBF. The Commercial Committee is an important part of the EBF, as good cooperation with local business partners also enhances the value the EBF can deliver to its members.

CONSULTANCY TOUR Are you interested in consultancy? Would you like to set up a multiple day career event where final year students can meet several high end consulting firms at their offices? Then consider applying for the EBF Consultancy Tour Committee. As a committee member, you gain experience in contacting partners for this event, organize a three day trip and make other students enthusiastic for this event. In the end, you will have arranged an event where a group of students met some great consultancy firms and learned about a career in the consultancy sector.

EBF ECONOMIC SYMPOSIUM In this committee you will organise the EBF Economic Symposium which will take place in the second semester of this academic year. This event provides students with the opportunity to acquire practical insights next to their studies and get in touch with companies. Speakers from leading national and international organisations will share their experiences. As a member of this committee, you will be responsible for arranging the program of the day, in which you will invite inspiring speakers and interesting companies. Are you a student looking for the opportunity to get in contact with various companies and speakers? Do you want to realise an event together with other motivated students? Organising the EBF Economic Symposium could be the challenge you’re looking for!

12

ENTREPENEURSHIP COMMITTEE The goal of Entrepreneurship Evenings is to broaden the horizons of Dutch students in the field of entrepreneurship. Interactive lectures provided by inspiring entrepreneurs will show the many opportunities of setting up your own business. The informal atmosphere of the evenings will provide the entrepreneurs and students with the opportunity to share their knowledge and experiences with each other. In the academic year 2015-2016, three Entrepreneurship Evenings with a range of different themes and speakers were organised. For example, CEOs of SPRS.ME and Almanapp were present to tell their story. Are you interested in entrepreneurship? Then this might be the perfect committee for you!

For this trip 25 students will join the ESR Committee to a European destination and visit several companies to find answers on their research questions. Together with you committee you will be responsible for choosing the city of destination. In previous years, the European Study Research went to Prague, Milan, Berlin, Belgrade, Lisbon and Budapest. Examples of previously organised activities are a paintball tournament and an etiquette dinner. This year the Freshmen Committee will also organize an overnight city trip especially for freshmen. The purpose of the Community is to bring the students of a certain master in contact with their fellow students, alumni, organizations and professors of their Master. The Master Community organizes several formal and informal activities for their fellow students. Through the Master Community, students will be able to bridge the gap between theory and practice and become an integrated group of people. This will lead to a genuine ‘community’ feeling. In total there are six Master Communities, serving students from the following masters: Human Resource Management, Change Management, Strategic Innovation Management, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, International Economics and Business and International Business and Management. Each Community organizes activities for its specific target group. Recent examples of activities are a trip to Brussels, an inhouse-day at Ikea, and many guest lectures.

SPEAKERS COMMITTEE Inspiring speakers are the core of several EBF events, as a member of the Speakers Committee you will be challenged to get them to Groningen. By taking place in this committee, it will be your task to extend the speakers network of the EBF. You will be involved in the organisation of the EBF Leaderships Panels and Eye on’s. Together with your committee members, you will brainstorm about prospective speakers and how to contact them. Renowned speakers who visited the EBF in the past are Jeroen Dijsselbloem, Paul Polman, Alexander Pechtold, Gerrit Zalm, Dick Berlijn and Mark Rutte. Will you get the next big name to Groningen?

When taking place in this committee, you can expand your skills by getting into contact with businesses and getting in touch with inspiring speakers. Will you organize this exciting event next year?

18

EBF CONFERENCE COMMITTEE The EBF Conference in Groningen is the largest two-day student conference in the Netherlands. The event consists of two consecutive conference days, which will each have a different character. The first day will be the academic day for senior students, alumni and corporate participants. Professors from several universities will be invited to visit this day and share their vision, which provides insights on the theme from an academic perspective. On the second day, the conference day, more than 500 students will be welcomed together with many business professionals. During this day, renowned speakers will give engaging lectures and share their experiences and visions. Furthermore, workshops and master classes will be provided by recruiters and senior level professionals. Examples of previous speakers are Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States; Klaas Knot, President of the Dutch National Bank; Dick Boer, CEO Ahold; and Guy Wollaert, Senior Vice President of Coca Cola. As a committee member you will be in contact with renowned speakers and multinational companies. Together with your fellow committee members, you will have an unforgettable year organising the EBF Conference. You will gain many new experiences, make new friends and most of all develop yourself in a professional way.

TESTIMONIAL ‘ANDREA VAN LUYK’ “In October last year, we started with the preparations for the EBF Conference 2016. We had the additional challenge to organize the Conference with 5 board members instead of 6, so that gave us extra motivation to work efficiently. Personally, I started constructing a theme for the Conference. I really enjoyed doing this, because I had to immerse myself in the ongoing trends and economic developments. Consecutively, we had to acquire speakers who could give interesting speeches about our theme. Getting into contact with worldwide CEO’s is a very valuable experience. This summer, we will visit them all at their headquarters. The biggest job for me is the day organisation and logistics: it will be my responsibility that everybody is in the right place at the right time. Therefore, I need to cooperate closely with my board members. We have become a very close board this year. Every Monday we have dinner together, we visit multiple events and spend most of our days together at the University. I would certainly recommend joining the EBF Conference to everyone, since it is a most exciting, valuable and fun experience. You get to develop yourself socially and professionally. Don’t miss out on this and join the EBF Conference!” Andrea van Luyk Logistics / Theme & Speakers II EBF Conference 2016

In March 2016 I was assigned as chairman of the committee guiding and aiding six other MARUG and EBF students. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS RESEARCH EXECUTIVE BOARD International Business Research (IBR) is a student run project of the EBF and the University of Groningen. Each year IBR conducts research for companies in two emerging markets. Examples of destinations from the past are Colombia, India, Chile and China. The project concerns research that you will conduct for a Dutch company. Being selected for the IBR Board in February, your board will start with choosing the destination and contacting companies. Until the beginning of the new academic year, the IBR Board is a part time occupation and can be combined with your studies. After the summer holidays, you will work full time on the project. The preparation phase for participants, in which they will prepare the research, starts in November. Furthermore, this period is characterized by many social activities to stimulate the integration between the participants and the board. During the period abroad, field research will be conducted for a period of five weeks, followed by five weeks of travelling in small groups. Each IBR project is conducted by 25 students who are supported by two professors of the Faculty of Economics and Business. The IBR Board exists of two different executive boards that both consists of a group of five people who are both responsible for a different destination. Tasks of the board include: selecting the emerging markets, setting-up the research, and selecting the participants. You will be challenged to make the project a success, which will be an invaluable experience.

TESTIMONIAL ‘RUTGER VAN DEN BRINK’ “The IBR Board consists of two groups of 5 people who are responsible for the International Business Research project as such. Each group organizes a trip to an emerging market outside of Europe to conduct market research for Dutch companies. From the moment of selection you immediately work on choosing a destination, selecting and visiting the Advisory Board, as well as preparing all the print and digital promotion materials. From September onwards you’re really working full-time to contact companies, select participants, and manage a group of 27 people. The great thing about IBR is that together you’re working towards a single goal; organizing an amazing trip to an emerging market outside Europe. While working on this goal you get familiar with the business world during company visits and experience how it is to run a small “company”. Above all, I think IBR is a great project to apply what you’ve learned and get rewarded with an amazing trip abroad. For me it was a great way to end my student life.” Rutger van den Brink Public Relations & Travel Coordinator (IBR Executive Board South Africa & Mozambique 2017)
