All undergraduate students pay in-state tuition. No out-of-state fees!

Undergraduate international students pursuing their bachelor’s degree are elegible for in-state tuition under our TRUEMU Global Rate!

Estimated cost of attendance.

Undergraduate Students

International undergraduate students are required to take 12 credit hours per semester to maintain legal F-1 status.

Tuition and Registration Fee (24-32 credit hours):

Insurance (Required for international students): $2,046

Room and Board (Housing and meal plan): $19,052

Total Estimated Cost for Undergraduate Students: $37,576 per year

Room and board numbers are dependent on the housing and meal plan options chosen.

Graduate Students*

International graduate students are required to take eight credit hours per semester to maintain legal F-1 status.

Masters Students

Tuition and Registration Fees:

Doctoral Students

Scholarships.

Undergraduate: 4WARD Graduation Scholarship

Available to incoming first-year students

• Award: Tuition only, years 3 and 4

• Must maintain a cumulative EMU GPA of 2.0 or higher

• Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress at Eastern Michigan University Must live in an on-campus community for all four years

• Renewable for three additional consecutive years

• Students must Opt-In to participate and sign a 4WARD Term and Conditions Agreement

Graduate:

National Scholars Program*

For the 2025 - 2026 school year, this scholarship awards an annual amount of $13,032 (nonresident tuition differential) for two years (four semesters), excludes online classes and cannot be combined with a graduate assistantship. To initially qualify, you must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.6, non-resident admission status and be admitted to a first master’s degree program. To renew it, you must enroll in eight credits each semester, maintain a minimum 3.2 EMU GPA and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements.

EMU Success Scholarship*

This scholarship awards $3,100 for two years (four semesters) maximum and can’t be received with a grad assistantship. To initially qualify, you must have a 3.2 undergraduate GPA and nonresident admission status. To renew, you must enroll in eight hours each semester, maintain a minimum 3.0 EMU GPA and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements.

*Graduate scholarship deadlines: July 1st and November 1st.

Assistantships

A graduate assistantship is a form of financial aid where a student works part-time for the university in exchange for a stipend and/or tuition remission.

Undergraduate:

1. Submit your application at emich.edu/apply

2. Submit official documents

A. Official Transcripts: Have your official high school/secondary school transcripts or marksheets sent to international_admissions@emich.edu. All transcripts must be in English. If sending college level transcripts from non-US institutions, please do so through a course-by-course evaluation offered by either ECE, EP, TEC or WES.

B. English Proficiency Test Results: Submit your English proficiency test results through the testing agency to Eastern Michigan University.

4. Begin I-20 Process

A. If you meet EMU’s academic and English requirements for international students, you would be eligible to receive an I-20 from Eastern Michigan University. The Form I-20 is required to apply for an F-1 visa to study in the United States.
