Pool of London, City of London 2024 Competition, C40 Students Reinventing Cities

The Pool of London stands as a prominent symbol of cultural identity in central London, boasting a remarkable cultural heritage value. Over the centuries, it has played a crucial role as a vital port for the city and now possesses an impressive backdrop to iconic landmarks such as the London Bridge, the Old Billingsgate Market and the Tower of London. Yet over time, the site currently faces issues such as underused public spaces, uncomfortable walkways, and climate change threats. This project addresses these issues and studies the feasibility of creating a more welcoming public space within the area.

This project builds upon the online MDMArchive to design a museum for modern music, providing a 'physical home' for its collections that is accessible to all. The project involves designing in a site located in Salford, which includes an existing Victorian building of the Manchester Tennis and Racquet Club that needs to be retrofitted and incorporated into the design.

Mercado Central, the Central Market, is a vibrant hub that preserves the heritage of Antique Trading Businesses in Buenos Aires. It aims to foster economic activity and showcases the unique antique trading culture of the city through a more organised and systematic approach. This captivating market of antique stores within a single building celebrates the city’s rich antique culture and it’s influence on shaping the urban fabric.

Antiques markets in Buenos Aires are more like a social space. It plays an important role in social and cultural development within the city. Therefore I became interested in discovering the possibilities of redefining the term ‘antique market’ with a few questions.

‘Can the market be designed into a space to gather and promote antique culture? Can the process of trading be reorganized?’

‘How can antique culture be promoted locally and beyond? Why are antiques so popular in the city?’

The project site occupies a central position in Buenos Aires, where major city avenues converge. The surrounding urban grid is predominantly regular, accommodating a mix of commercial, social, and residential activities. Being centrally located, the site experiences a constant buzz of activity throughout the year, easily accessible from all parts of the city. Being socially oriented in its design, green spaces are also scattered throughout the building, providing a getaway from the dense urban fabric.

A NEW ERA FOR SOCIAL HOUSING

London Road, Sheffield, UK | 2022

Second Year Project, Sheffield School of Architecture

The social housing situation in Sheffield requires new possibilities to address its current deterioration. In my housing project, I aim to create a vibrant and engaging community. Inspired by the textures and colours found near the site, the design incorporates diverse housing options such as flats, maisonettes, and terraced houses, along with abundant social open spaces. The objective is to promote interaction and enhance the sense of community among residents.

Amidst the golden dunes of the Sahara and the vibrant coastal cities along the Atlantic, my mates and I traversed through a canvas of diverse landscapes and cultures. The striking contrast between us, the travelers, and the rooted Berber communities ignited a profound reflection within me, fueling my curiosity to delve deeper into their way of life.
