ELECTIVE PROGRAM

OPHTALMOLOGY AND SUBSPECIALTY

In February -ADI-, the elective program begins, with the entry of 2 doctors who are currently applying for the scholarships for the Master’s Degree in Ophthalmology, which will begin in July of this year.

A personalized 1-month rotation was planned for all areas and specialties, where electives developed knowledge, skills and competencies in ophthalmology; participating as observers in all clinics and operating rooms. In addition, doctors were invited to participate in training, theoretical classes and Wetlab, in order to learn about our learning methodology.

At the end of the rotation, the doctors prepared a report in which the Medical Academic Directorate evaluated the collection and analysis of relevant data.

OPTOMETRY

Certified in Detection of eye pathologies

The course has been designed to provide Visualiza optometrists with a deeper understanding of the various pathologies that can affect vision. They will obtain the necessary skills to perform specific tests for their detection and thereby appropriately refer patients to an ophthalmologist for your treatment.

The course has 3 main objectives:

Identify the signs and symptoms present of the most frequent pathologies through the appropriate clinical method for their correct detection.

Put into practice the knowledge acquired through practical cases.

Correctly refer patients with detected pathologies to the ophthalmologist.

In the month of February, an ophthalmological day was held in the community of Quiché with the aim of providing specialized medical care to those who need it most..

During the day, a team of optometrists and other health professionals came together to offer:

Complete eye exams.

Visual acuity tests.

Refraction.

Eye health evaluation.

Additionally, prescription glasses and medications were provided to those who needed them.

One of the highlights of the day was the active participation of the community, around 400 people came to take advantage of the services offered and received quality medical care, practical advice on how to maintain good eye health was also provided and responses questions from attendees.

The ophthalmological day was a great success thanks to the hard work and dedication of the team of health professionals and volunteers. We are committed to continuing to organize events like this in the future to continue caring for the vision of our community.

At Visualiza and Pescatore we have various social assistance programs for our needy patients. These programs include recruiting and helping patients who need a cataract surgery donation.

In the month of February we have 5 successful cases who were granted cataract surgery to improve their daily lives, among the cases we have testimonies such as:

Juana De La Cruz, 75 years old with cataracts in both eyes.

Wueliton David Cucul a 6 year old boy who was diagnosed with traumatic cataract in his right eye. Treated for trauma that was caused by the impact of a stone in the right eye.

Nery Jimenez Cerna, 59 years old, diagno sed with diabetic retinopathy in both eyes and vitreous hemorrhage in the right eye.

WORKING DAY PEDIATRIC

We are pleased to share a summary of the Pediatric Conferences that were held during the month of February, visiting the departmental areas of Huehuetenango, at the Nazareno Church in the Tajaguaquix village, where 150 people were treated, including 50 children, finding problems refractive in 15 patients.

The Education for Children Foundation in Jocotenango was also visited, carrying out an ophthalmological day serving 94 children with a complete evaluation, where 12 children were found with refractive problems and 3 pairs of glasses were donated to 2 girls with limited resources that their parents dedicated to agriculture.

PHAKIC LENSES (INDICATIONS, ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES)

Capacitación dirige a todos los médicos, con el objetivo de identificar a los pacientes que son candidatos a estas opciones de cirugía refractiva: Indicaciones, contraindicaciones , las diferentes opciones de tratamiento quirúrgicos(IPCL, ICL) , consideraciones durante la cirugía y requisitos pre y postopertaorios, ventajas y desventajas, correcto seguimiento.

RETAIL DIPLOMA

Training aimed at marketing managers and heads of vision centers, in order to provide the knowledge and new skills to create communication, design and marketing strategies that impact, stand out and are consistent with the brands they represent and consistent with the new reality of the sector, through a dynamic and memorable learning experience.

DROP FREE

Training aimed at ophthalmologist doctors from the Drop Free team, to present the complete study protocol, study forms (practical), study of the intervention/injection of the study with Dr. Neal. And know the progress of the patients through a postoperative visit on day 1.

DRY EYE AND LUBRICANTS

Training aimed at all doctors, to familiarize ophthalmologists with the different types of ocular lubricants available on the market, their active ingredients, mechanisms of action and forms of application. Evaluate the severity of dry eye in individual cases and select the most appropriate ocular lubricant for each situation, considering factors such as the intensity of symptoms, frequency of use and patient preferences.

WHAT YES AND WHAT NOT TO STERILIZE

Training aimed at nursing in the operating room with the objective of identifying critical equipment and instruments that must be sterilized and those that can be disposable or can be cleaned and disinfected in other ways. Provide detailed information on the different sterilization methods available, such as autoclaving and other processes.
