The competitive examination for the 2025 Master’s Degree in Ophthalmology began in April, a process that reflects our commitment to academic excellence and the training of service-minded specialists. In this initial phase, 23 physicians passionate about ophthalmology began their application process.
Having met the established requirements, 16 candidates participated in the evaluation of general ophthalmology knowledge, where they were also presented with our academic proposal. After a rigorous selection process, 10 physicians advanced to the interview stage, and finally, three new residents were selected to form part of the second cohort of future ophthalmologists at Visualiza:
Dr. Meliza García, de Huehuetenango
Dr. Stephani Cifuentes, de Quetzaltenango
Dr. Jonathan Vivar, de Ciudad de Guatemala
Every trained ophthalmologist is one more hope for those at risk of losing their sight. More professionals with the vision, passion, and values of Visualiza will join us in this mission: to combat preventable blindness and bring light to every corner of Guatemala!
Visualiza, through the Integral Development Academy (ADI), and in compliance with its institutional strategic plan, has launched the “Optometry Assistant” internal training program. This program is designed to provide employees passionate about eye care the opportunity to begin their professional journey in the field of optometry.
Selected participants undergo an intensive training process that combines theoretical classes with supervised practice, under the guidance of optometrist Samuel Alonso and the team of professionals from our clinics in Zone 9. This training experience not only strengthens their knowledge but also prepares them to provide quality eye care with a warm and caring attitude.
Starting in 2026, these collaborators will formally begin their optometry studies, thus consolidating their commitment to the visual well-being of communities.
Every step in training new professionals is a step toward a country where everyone can see clearly. With programs like this, we’re building a future where eye health reaches every corner of the country. Because seeing well means living better, and together we’re making it possible!
In an effort to bring eye care to all Guatemalan communities, Visualiza has held impactful community outreach events in collaboration with the vision centers in Gustatoya, Mazatenango, and Chimaltenango.
During these days, the Visualiza team has reached every community with the commitment to providing quality eye care. From basic checkups to the provision of corrective lenses, each interaction has been a step toward clearer vision and a better quality of life.
were described and provided, low-cost medications were sold, and donations of lenses and surgeries were made. Patients diagnosed for surgery are receiving the necessary follow-up to ensure timely treatment.
At Visualiza, we recognize the importance of caring for the eye health of those who drive Guatemala’s development: its workers. That’s why our corporate workshops have brought eye care directly to various workplaces, in partnership with companies committed to the well-being of their employees.
During these sessions, vision assessments, eyeglasses are provided, and eye diseases are detected early, allowing more people to access preventive care without affecting their work schedule.
We are grateful to the companies that have trusted us to care for their team’s vision. Together, we strengthen the link between health and productivity, building healthier and more responsible work environments.
Seeing well also means working better!
We launched our new home vision screening program, visiting homes in rural communities to detect vision problems early and refer those in need to our care centers.
Through virtual consultations and remote diagnoses, we use photographs and image analysis submitted by patients to provide timely and accurate care. This asynchronous approach facilitates access to eye care, especially for those facing geographic barriers or mobility limitations.
The home screening program represents a significant advancement in Visualiza’s mission. Now, our volunteers go door-to-door, identifying those in need of eye care and ensuring they receive appropriate care at our vision centers. This personalized approach not only detects vision problems early but also strengthens ties with the communities we serve.
