For Pets’ Sake Humane Society is a group of dedicated volunteers working to improve the lives of companion animals in Dolores and Montezuma Counties. Who is the Durango Botanical Society?

In 2010, a group of volunteers came together in hopes of bringing a concerted effort of horticultural awareness to our corner of paradise. DBS is committed to the design and development of public gardens throughout Southwest Colorado for the purposes of education and demonstration.

You’re Invited “Crevice Garden Along the Trail” Ribbon Cutting July 15th 2016 8:30 am

DBS broke ground on the Durango Botanic Gardens at the library in May of 2016 with the addition of the Crevice Garden Along the Trail. The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on Friday, July 15th, at 8:30 am. Join us for the dedication and refreshments. This garden completes the Library Demonstration Garden and is the connection to the new Durango Botanic Gardens at the library. Jane Collard Gould is the designer for the Durango Botanic Gardens with the help of design consultants and the project management team of Lisa Bourey of Lisa Bourey Designs and Passion Flower Farms and contractor and stone mason Erik Lewis of Canyon Landscape. Docent and member volunteers participated in the planting and caring of this garden project. The Crevice Garden designer and workshop leader was Kenton Seth of Paint Brush Gardens. The Gabbro Miniature Conifer Garden bordering the crevice garden was designed and managed by Lisa and Erik. Meet the designers at the ribbon cutting and learn more about crevice gardens, miniature gardens and the Durango Botanic Gardens. The Library Advisory Board and the Friends of the Library donated $10,300.00 to this project. DBS is asking the community to match these funds by contributing to their web site or their crowd funding site at www.generosity.com/fundraisers/durango-botanic-gardens-at-the-library. La Plata County Senior Services is dedicated to improving the quality of life for older adults, helping them make informed choices to enhance their health and well-being, support their independence, and help them age with dignity and purpose. Durango’s High Noon Rotary Club was founded in 1979 as part of the fifty year anniversary of the Durango Rotary Club. Some members found a lunch meeting more convenient than an evening meeting. In the last 36 years the club has grown to be the largest in the Four Corners. The help in its local and international projects members hold three main fund raising events every year. In February, along with the other three clubs in La Plata we co- host the Red Ball Express at Purgatory Resort. Now in its 14th year, this event has raised over $300,000 for community non-profits and the clubs in the area. In April the club puts on the High Noon Saloon casino night. In the early 1970’s, amateur musicians in Farmington, New Mexico and Durango, Colorado founded two separate orchestras. Today, the combined groups form the core of a 65-member orchestra that draws musicians from the entire Four Corners region. The San Juan Symphony performs at Henderson Performance Hall in Farmington, NM and at the Community Concert Hall in Durango, CO. The SJS has also performed in Telluride, CO and in Cortez, CO. The symphony serves the area’s communities through its youth orchestra and educational programs, which currently touch children in many area elementary, middle and high schools.
