This year marks the 23rd anniversary of the Durango Home & Ranch Show, the largest and finest home products event in the Four Corners area. Each year we host more than 110 vendors at our La Plata County Fairgrounds venue, showcasing the latest ideas and products in homebuilding, kitchens and baths, home theater, alternative power, gardening, farming and much more!

Hot Tomatoes Café and Catering will be in the kitchens of the Exhibit Hall and the Extension Building serving up lunch, so grab a delicious bite to eat while you’re here. Local artists Jeff Solon and Robby Overfield will be playing music throughout the event. We’ll also have several great door prizes, so be sure and register at the show entrance!

La Plata County Humane Society is our show beneficiary this year, and they will have adoptable dogs walking through the show, as well as cute puppies and kittens, also up for adoption, at their outdoor booth. Who knows, you may leave with a new furry friend! Big Brothers/Big Sisters will be in the parking lot offering raffle tickets for their 2017 “Homes with Heart” playhouse.

[Event Beneficiary] The La Plata County Humane Society is a nonprofit organization created to enhance the quality of life in our community by encouraging the humane treatment of animals. Our philosophy is to preserve the lives of the animals entrusted to us.

The Humane Society was created to provide shelter for homeless animals, to rescue animals in distress, to assist in the investigation and prosecution of reported cruelty and abuse, to attempt to find homes for unwanted animals, and to encourage kindness and responsibility toward all living things through humane education.

The La Plata County Humane Society was established as a 501(c) 3 animal shelter in 1973.

The Thrift Store was established in 1990 to raise monies for the new facility. The Shelter is directed by nine elected board members. The Humane Society has capacity to house over 50 dogs and 40 cats. In 2000, we added a veterinarian to staff to insure that all animals are spayed and neutered and have all veterinarian care/needs before leaving our facility.

[Big Brothers Big Sisters]

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Colorado is kicking off this year’s Homes with Heart playhouse raffle at the Durango Home and Ranch Show.

Check out the playhouse, designed and built

by Durango High School students. Raffle tickets are $5 per ticket or five tickets for $20. The drawing will be held during the Parade of Homes in September. The winner of the playhouse will receive complimentary delivery service within 25 miles of the city limits (truck and trailer access will be needed; site preparation is the responsibility of the winner.) Maureen May

Maureen May has been practicing art for over 40 years. Her main focus has been printmaking, primarily monotypes, though she continues to indulge in painting, drawing and assemblage.

May’s early studies were at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, under the tutelage of Eugene Hall. She has studied printmaking at Barat College in Lake Forest, Illinois, College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois under Dan Ziembo, and under Michael Coffee of Shy Rabbit Contemporary Arts in Pagosa Springs, Colorado.

May has exhibited extensively throughout the US, and her work is in numerous corporate and private collections throughout the US and Europe. Her work can be found at Studio & Gallery in Durango, where she is an owner and member, and on her website, maureenmayart.com.
