Home & Ranch Event Guide 2015

Page 1

For our 21st annual show, we have gathered more than 110 exhibitors in the home products and services industry for a fabulous two-day event. We’ll showcase the newest innovations in gardening, farm machinery, building, organizing, decorating, home theater, art, solar power, kitchens and baths, and much more. Listen to the sounds of live music indoors and out, by popular local musicians Jeff Solon and Robby Overfield. Enjoy a bite to eat at Hot Tomatoes Catering and Café, serving delicious fare in the Exhibit Hall kitchen and in the Extension Building. Be sure to see the outdoor exhibits in the courtyard and parking area – new this year are two large RV dealers with many new recreational vehicles to show you. Who knows – you could start your summer with a great road trip adventure! Big Brothers/Big Sisters is back with their playhouse raffle, and La Plata County Humane Society has cute and cuddly animals ready to adopt. We’re grateful to our sponsors, First National Bank of Durango, Target Rental, Chisolm Trail RV, Pasco Southwest, Durango Party Rental, Directory Plus, and The Durango Herald for making the show possible. We’re proud to support Health Coalition of Southwest Colorado as our event beneficiary this year. The Health Coalition assists cancer patients with grants for nonmedical expenses during treatment. They are a part of The Community Foundation’s local network of nonprofit organizations.

There’s something for everyone at the Durango Home & Ranch Show, Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 3 pm

Sandra finds joy in capturing the moods of the landscape and has spent years painting outdoors (plein air) throughout the US and Italy. She especially enjoys Durango and the Four Corners as it offers such a rich and varied environment for painting. She received her Bachelor of Fine Art from California College of the Arts and currently works in both oil and pastel. An award winning artist, she has participated in a number of juried and one woman shows.

Locally, Sandra is represented by Taylor Raymond Gallery, Durango, and Studio Selke-Contemporary Art of the Southwest, Gem Village

He began his professional musical adventure as a street performer, playing his way through Central and South America and has performed throughout the southwest since 1985, with his duets, groups, and 8 piece swing band. He has led three tours for the U.S. Embassy in Latin America, produced and released 15 recordings, and teaches jazz studies at Fort Lewis College.

Robby Overfield is a musician who blends the art of storytelling and genuine lyrics with a powerful voice to compliment an encapsulating listening experience. Stretching his soulful Detroit, Michigan roots all the way to the rocky skyline of Durango, Co, Robby has continued to grow and expand his musical framework to include unique perspectives to his own life’s episodes and encounters. With a tremendous ability to captivate an audience through subtle build-ups and incredible delivery, his songs are bound to have folks walking away changed by the power of music and emotion.

The Health Coalition of Southwest Colorado (HCSC) assists cancer patients in Southwest Colorado with grants and gas vouchers that help with non-medical expenses during treatment. For nearly 20 years HCSC has reached out and offered hope to people with cancer. It began with a fight against breast cancer, and then expanded to all cancers. During the last six years HCSC has distributed over $100,000 to as many as 200 or more individuals, thanks to community support given this volunteer group’s fund-raising efforts. In 2014 HCSC gave grants to 58 individuals amounting to $29,000, and gas vouchers in the amount of $17,000 to anyone in treatment who needed help with the travel expenses. All funds are managed by the Community Foundation, our fiscal sponsor. HCSC also offers educational information about prevention and early detection through presentations to individuals and organizations. It celebrates cancer survivors with fun events like the Pink Ribbon dinner held each October. You can support HCSC and give hope to neighbors suffering from this disease by sponsoring events, donating to HCSC through Community Foundation, or sending your checks directly to Health Coalition of Southwest Colorado, P.O. Box 1455, Durango, CO 81302. Become a member of this organization and help expand the financial support given to residents in cancer treatment.
