Dunleer Tidy Town Awards 2016

The Tidy Town Awards took place Grove House Dunleer last night in front of a very enthusiastic crowd. The Chairman Hugh Callaghan welcomed all the dignitaries and the people present and said we had a busy year with fund raising and improving the town. They are also hoping for funding to help them fulfil a major part of their five year plan in the next few months. At the Tidy Towns prizes in Dundalk’s Crown Plaza earlier in the month Dunleer also took home a special Merit Award held in early October this year. Dunleer also retained its Gold Medal Status for Litter Control in and around the town this year. Seven

premises in the town received Merit Shop Front Awards at the Tidy Towns Together Awards. A winning shop front was picked from the seven who were nominated, which was Carlito’s Restaurant on Lower Main Street Dunleer owned by Declan and Carmel Moore The Awards for Best presented Gardens are as follows Garden Awards; 1 Tony Corrigan, Beechwood Drive. 2 George Reynolds, Beechwood Drive. 3 Hugh Murphy, School Lane. Highly commended - Jim Kenwright, Mountain View. Large Gardens: 1 Tom and Kitty Hickey St Brigid’s Terrace. 2 Terry Lennon, Maryville. 3 Vinny Shearman, Drumcar

Road. Highly commended: Damian King, St Brigid’s Terrace and Declan/ Rosaleen McKeown Dundalk Road. Overall winners of the garden competition were Garry and Sandra Kelly, Drumcar Road. A new Award of a Perpetual Crystal Trophy donated by Cllr Peter Savage was presented to Tidy Towns who Awarded it for the Best Tidy Towns Volunteer of the Year. This was won by George Harmon from the Beechwood Drive/ Church View Tidy Towns group. There were also four Youth Recognition Awards given to Luke O’Reilly, Wale Ifraturoti, Sean Walsh and Shane Meade from Dunleer. Pictured at the launch of the Skillnets’Statement of Strategy 2016-2019 are Teresa Hanratty from Learning Waves Skillnet, Louth; Paul Healy, Skillnets Chief Executive and Mark Brennan from Positive2Work Skillnet in the North East Region.
