Gardai escaped serious injury after two patrol cars were rammed in a dramatic incident on the Cooley Peninsula on Monday night that resulted in two men being arrested. The incident was the result of a number of burglaries in the area on Monday and residents in Cooley and Carlingford have been warned to stay vigilant Two men were arrested by Gardaí following a chase in which two patrol cars were rammed by the assailants. A statement from the Gardai confirmed that a Toyota car had been stolen in the lead up to the burglaries and also that two men had been arrested. “As part of Operation Thor, uniformed Gardaí on patrol in the Carlingford area
of Co Louth were alerted to a burglary in Willville, Carlingford last night (7/11/16). On arrival at the scene Gardaí recovered a car which had been stolen earlier that day. Another burglary was reported nearby and a Toyota car was stolen from that location. Gardaí from the Regional Support Unit assisted in this investigation and attempted to stop the Toyota car at Millgrange, Carlingford, the Toyota car then rammed two Garda vehicles. Two men in their 20s were arrested at the scene and are currently detained at Dundalk Garda Station under the Provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984.
