Take this unique opportunity to receive an executive overview of the Master of Science in Real Estate Degree (classes summarized below) applied specifically to family businesses and family offices. Taught by faculty, alumni and friends of the FL Burns School of Real Estate and the Built Environment – the second oldest real estate program in the US, started in 1938. Understand urban dynamics, architecture, construction, law, public approvals, public and private finance, marketing and property management. Envision projects to meet future demands, with considerations of the triple bottom line of people, place and profit.

Workshop Overview and Objectives Continued Real Estate Securities/Syndications/Entrepreneurship Understand private offerings, securities law, exemptions from registration for accredited investors (Reg D), investor suitability, syndication fundamentals, tax structures, real estate tax considerations and syndicator compensation.

Real Estate Property and Asset Management Explore the complexities of managing residential (apartment) and commercial (office, industrial, retail) properties. Understand rental markets, leasing techniques, property maintenance and repairs, personnel training, and owner relations.

Real Estate Taxation Federal tax law factors applied to real estate investment and operations. Review legal forms of ownership, depreciation, tax basis, exchanges, syndications and real estate securities.

Income Property Investment Comprehensive analysis of real estate investment decision making. Evaluate equity investment decisions via discounted cash flow analysis. Apply risk analysis models and strategic planning concepts, structuring to maximize IRR, while controlling downside risks using practical applications.

The program was established in 2019 thanks to the generous gift from the Paul T. Bailey estate. It is the first comprehensive family business program in the Colorado region and is housed at the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. We provide educational and networking events, workshops, and certificates led by expert practitioners. The program has a full-time director, advisory board, and support through the Executive Education team. Our leadership is active in the Alliance for Family Business Centers nationally.
