We are pleased to welcome our new and returning residents, guests and visitors back to paradise with our latest edition of Punta Mita Living, your guide to the most recent real estate’s opportunities, lifestyle trends, exciting activities and signature events in our community. This year has been without doubt like no other, as we have all affronted COVID-19 and the challenges that the pandemic has bought to all our lives. As a company, DINE is committed to ensuring Punta Mita remains a haven that is renowned for ensuring all protocols are in place as we all strive to maintain a COVID less community with the support of each and every one who visits Punta Mita. At the same time, we reconfirm our commitment in continuing to explore and deliver new amenities, services and products in the destination that will enrichen the experience of all that visit us in the years to come. It has been a year of reflection and transformation, which began with the 20th anniversary of Punta Mita Resort as well as the Four Seasons Punta Mita and in mid-March when we saw everything come to a standstill. Nevertheless, we were able to enjoy a number of our Signature events such as the 2020 Tail of the Whale Member Guest, Carnaval, as well as a number of Pacific Cups & Chefs Tables prior to the pandemic which are featured in this year’s edition. For this edition of Punta Mita Living, which this year will be in a digital version, we sat down for breakfast with Alfredo Bonnin, Director of Punta Mita, who has been in our resort for well over a decade, to talk about his experiences and vision of Punta Mita. We thrilled to welcome and feature the latest addition to Punta Mita’s world class amenities, “El Surf Club”, located on La Lancha surf beach, its magical setting and ambience will surely make it a new destination classic. We also catch you up on the latest advances at the Punta Mita Hospital, which continues to provide the quality and accessibility of healthcare for Punta Mita residents and the surrounding local community. You will find all this and much more as we hope you enjoy this special digital edition of our annual Magazine. We have a lot on the horizon as the doors open to two new additions to our community with Iyari Villas and TAU Residences, as well as Las Vistas Estates, that were launched early 2020. We look forward to a 2021 confident of our capacity to adapt to a new reality while we continue to develop and consolidate Punta Mita’s position as a leading world class resort. CARL EMBERSON Carl Emberson is originally from the Fiji Islands and educated in Australia, he is a graduate of the Swiss Hotel Association Management School Les Roches, his career spans nigh 40 years in over 10 countries from Fiji & Australia to Europe and just over 30 years in Latin American between Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil & Mexico where he now resides in his present role as Director of Marketing & Operations of Punta Mita. Carl an avid golfer has been in Punta Mita for the last few years a passionate promoter of what is today one of the Americas leading luxury destinations. Carl Emberson es originario de las Islas Fiyi y se educó en Australia, graduado de la escuela Suiza de Administración Hotelera Les Roches. Su carrera abarca casi 40 años de experiencia en más de 10 países, desde Fiyi y Australia, hasta Europa, además de 30 años en Latinoamérica entre Argentina, Uruguay, Brasil y México, donde ahora reside en su rol actual como Director de Marketing y Operaciones de Punta Mita. Carl, un ávido golfista, ha estado en Punta Mita durante los últimos años como un apasionado promotor de lo que hoy es uno de los destinos de lujo más importantes de América.

JOHN MCINTYRE John McIntyre brings decades of knowledge to his role as Director of Punta Mita Golf Club. Leaving a career practicing law in Colorado and California to pursue his true passion for golf, he gained a wealth of international experience including time as the PGA Director of Golf for Frost Creek Country Club in Colorado and the PGA Director for TPC Cancun Country Club. Since November 2017, John has overseen all golf operations and programming for both Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Courses. John McIntyre aporta décadas de experiencia y conocimiento a su puesto como director del Punta Mita Golf Club. Tras dejar una carrera ejerciendo derecho en Colorado y California para dedicarse a su verdadera gran pasión, el golf, ha obtenido una gran experiencia a nivel internacional, incluyendo su función como director PGA de Golf en el Frost Creek Country Club en Colorado y como director PGA en el TPC Cancún Country Club. Desde noviembre de 2017, John ha sido el encargado de supervisar todas las operaciones y programas de golf para ambos campos Jack Nicklaus Signature.

Rocio Gonzalez Reynaga is a multimedia communications specialist. A Mexican native known by friends as Chio. She spent part of her childhood in Virginia with her parents and siblings where she embraced the American culture while maintaining strong Mexican values. In 2007, Rocio moved to Puerto Vallarta and dived into the Tourism and Hospitality industry. Working for PV Event Group, she helped plan events ranging from student travel, film production, music events, and destination weddings. Her love for the arts and her natural vision drives her to seek out beauty beyond what meets the eye. Expanding her vision for the future, Rocio joined Punta Mita Properties in February 2020, and loves exploring the undiscovered horizons of Punta Mita. Rocio Gonzalez Reynaga es especialista en comunicaciones multimedia. Nacida en México y conocida por amigos como Chio. Pasó parte de su infancia en Virginia con sus padres y hermanos, donde adoptó la cultura estadounidense manteniendo fuertes valores mexicanos. En 2007, Rocio se mudó a Puerto Vallarta y se sumergió en la industria del turismo y la hospitalidad. Trabajando para PV Event Group, ayudó a planificar eventos que iban desde viajes de estudiantes, producción de películas, eventos de música electrónica y bodas de destino. Su amor por las artes y su visión natural la impulsa a buscar la belleza más allá de lo que se ve a simple vista. Ampliando su visión para el futuro, Rocio se unió a Punta Mita Properties en febrero de 2020 y le encanta explorar los horizontes desconocidos de Punta Mita.

VICTORIA SALGUERO

Victoria Salguero has a degree in corporate communication, began developing her career in multimedia corporations (Grupo CIE) to later develop within the real estate and retail market with Grupo IRSA, in marketing and communication’s area. For more than thirteen years she has worked as an independent consultant. She was a partner and executive director of the communication agency Urban Chile, which was able to position as one of the best three consulting firms in that country. He led teams in Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico for clients such as Unilever, Nokia, Google, Coca Cola, American Express, BMW, Nestlé, Adidas, Telecom, HTC, Mercado Pago, Cencosud, and Despegar, among others. She currently works as Director of Marketing and Communications for Untold México. Victoria Salguero es licenciada en comunicación corporativa, comenzó desarrollando su carrera en corporaciones de multimedios (Grupo CIE) para posteriormente desarrollarse dentro del mercado de real state y retail de la mano del Grupo IRSA, en el área marketing y comunicación. Desde hace más de trece años trabaja como consultora independiente. Fue socia y directora ejecutiva de la agencia de comunicación Urban Chile la cual logró posicionar como una de las mejores tres consultoras de ese país. These are never before encountered circumstances but, if well handled, provide the opportunity to us to reshape events in Punta Mita so that we continue to offer our Members and Guests a robust calender of events for the season ahead in conditions where all COVID19 protocols are in place. We have seen all of our larger events cancelled or postponed i.e. Member Guest & The Punta Mita Gourmet & Golf while we will be limiting any events in Punta Mita for the time being to 50 people with COVID19 protocols applying at all times. This is in line with what our 2 hotels in Punta Mita will also be using as a guideline for events. That being said all events in Punta Mita will be held â&#x20AC;&#x153;Al Frescoâ&#x20AC;? as we are fortunate enough to live a wonderful climate which permits so many outdoor activities which have all been

considered low risk while maintaining social distancingt. Over the summer we experimented with some new COVID19 friendly outdoor events such as Drive in Movie Nights on the driving range or a Virtual Live Concert Dinner night at Kupuri Beach Club which will be part of the options for the season while our Golf events will follow the same framework. Our classic Nine Whine & Dine event every Sunday will also follow the same protocols for the season. So, all in all events in Punta Mita will be smaller, more intimate & outdoors â&#x20AC;&#x201C;at the time of publishing this article that was the panorama and as we are all aware things can change and when they do rest assured we will be leading the way. The wellbeing, safety and good health of all our Members and visitors is a priority to us all. 7

Eventos de Punta Mita

Mirando hacia el futuro Estas circunstancias nunca se han encontrado antes, pero si se llevan a cabo de una manera adecuada, nos brindarán la oportunidad de remodelar los eventos en Punta Mita para que podamos continuar ofreciendo a nuestros Miembros e Invitados un calendario sólido de eventos para la próxima temporada con las condiciones y adaptándolos a los protocolos COVID19. Dadas las circunstancias, hemos tenido que cancelar y posponer nuestros eventos más grandes como son: Member Guest y The Punta Mita Gourmet & Golf, es por eso qué por lo pronto, estaremos limitando cualquier evento en Punta Mita a 50 personas considerando los protocolos COVID19 los cuales se aplicaran en todo momento. Estas acciones van del mano con nuestros 2 hoteles en Punta Mita quienes también estarán llevando a cabo la misma línea para sus eventos. Dicho esto, todos los eventos en Punta Mita se llevarán a cabo “Al aire libre/“Al fresco” ya que somos lo suficientemente afortunados de vivir un clima maravilloso que permite tantas actividades al aire libre que se han considerado de bajo riesgo manteniendo el distanciamiento social. Durante el verano, experimentamos con algunos nuevos eventos al aire libre, como “las noches de cine” las cuales se llevaron a cabo en el campo de práctica, así como una noche de cena de concierto virtual en vivo desde Kupuri Beach Club, estas nuevas ideas serán también parte de las opciones de los eventos que estaremos llevando a cabo con las nuevas normas y protocolos. Nuestro evento clásico Nine Whine & Dine todos los domingos también seguirá los mismos protocolos para la temporada. En general, los eventos en Punta Mita serán más pequeños, más íntimos y al aire libre; al momento de publicar este artículo, ese era el panorama y como todos sabemos, las cosas pueden cambiar y cuando lo hagan, tenga la seguridad de que estaremos liderando el camino. El bienestar, la seguridad y la buena salud de todos nuestros miembros y visitantes es una prioridad para todos nosotros.

GABY LÓPEZ Mexican LPGA player Gaby Lopez has visited Punta Mita on a number of occasions as have her family and are fans of this unique golfing destination. As the LPGA Tour was about to return in June 2020, Punta Mita and Gaby Lopez agreed upon a sponsorship deal for the 2020/2021 LPGA Season. For Punta Mita it was an opportunity to further enhance its commitment to professional golf by supporting one of Mexico’s most exciting young players. With two wins on the LPGA Tournament and holding a current ranking of 26th in the world, Lopez’s sponsorship at Punta Mita includes brand presence on her hand-painted golf bag. Specially created by master craftsmen in the community of San Martín Tilcajete, Oaxaca, the bag captures the colors and artistic expression of Mexico using indigenous Zapotec symbols in the design. The sides of the bag have blue, orange, and yellow details referencing Zapotec diamonds which continue to the front of the bag containing bright red, pink, and turquoise colors. Lopez has a history of supporting local artisan communities and is excited to continue her support for Mexican culture. She will proudly wear the colors of Mexico every time walks on and off the field. The sponsorship also includes VIP Access for Club Punta Mita Members at LPGA Tournaments Lopez plays in. As an additional part of the new collaboration, Lopez will play host at Punta Mita signature annual golf events such as Gourmet & Golf and Tail of the Whale Member Guest Tournament should her schedule allow so.

Como el LPGA Tour estaba a punto de regresar en junio de 2020, Punta Mita y Gaby López acordaron un acuerdo de patrocinio para la temporada de la LPGA 2020/2021. Para Punta Mita fue una oportunidad de mejorar aún más su compromiso con el golf profesional al apoyar a uno de los jugadores jóvenes más reconocidos de México. Con dos victorias en el Torneo LPGA y ocupando el puesto 26 en el ranking mundial, el patrocinio de López a Punta Mita incluye la presencia de la marca en su bolsa de golf pintada a mano. Creado especialmente por maestros artesanos de la comunidad de San Martín Tilcajete, Oaxaca, el bolso captura los colores y la expresión artística de México utilizando símbolos indígenas zapotecas en el diseño. THE PUNTA DE MITA

H U M A N I TA R I A N RELIEF APPEAL

A response to the covid-19 crisis for local food distribution to support unemployed families who call Punta de Mita home.

On February 28, 2020, Mexico confirmed the first cases of COVID-19 infection, making the country the second in Latin America to register the virus, and the Mexican government announced phase 1 of the National contingency plan. Shortly thereafter, the State of Nayarit suspended all school activities; an outward sign as to how the ravaging virus would negatively impact the towns surrounding Punta Mita. On March 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 outbreak as a pandemic. In light of these events, PEACE management decided to jump right in and do something positive for the community. With part of PEACE Punta de Mita mission focused on teaching nearly 1,300 children and anticipating the wide scale unemployment of their parents, PEACE temporarily modified its goals in favor of providing sustenance to those families in need. Planners realized this daunting logistical task would require: many volunteers; a major food supply source; a controlled weekly distribution network; and a far-reaching public relations initiative capable of quickly appealing to hundreds of prospective donors. Personal relationships among the heads of various entities were called upon in lightning speed to further refine the who, what, when, where, and how for strategy development. With a plan in place, the PEACE Board unanimously approved the first month’s funding. At the same time, Fundación Dine Punta Mita joined this initiative and launched an intensive awareness campaign through its different for donations. La Comer Supermarket began to revise internal operations to

provide, at near cost, weekly supplies of bagged groceries that spared the cost for external warehousing and bag-stuffing by an auxiliary staff of volunteers. The initial plan considered the ever-growing supply of weekly groceries through August 31, 2020, a date that coincided with the reopening of schools. However, months later planners would realize that grocery distribution would need to be sustained through October 31st. Concurrent with top level planning, grassroots emergency meetings would take place with the leaders and judges of the three communities: Emiliano Zapata, Corral del Risco and Higuera Blanca (comprising 3,800 people of some 1,100 families). To ascertain the specific recipients of food staples, the PEACE Staff (later known as “Ali’s Army”) conducted a detailed population census and formed a database to include: the number of household family members, means of income, employment status, address, telephone, etc. This information would define the specific socio-economic conditions. Over the ensuing weeks, the Fundación Dine Punta Mita staff would prepare photo ID Cards to assure provisions would reach local citizens only. So, with endless hours of planning in the rear-view mirror, “The Punta de Mita Humanitarian Relief Appeal” (HRA) was ready to launch.

A Task Force Formation As food delivery commenced, the Fundación Dine Punta Mita Staff worked hand in hand with Ali’s Army at distribution points. Direction and control of the dynamic operation fell under the auspices of a Task Force that provided weekly feedback, lessons learned from front line staff, and near-term planning as family subsistence continued to evolve. The Fundación Punta de Mita was requested to join the governing body, and it provided key information as to what other entities and people were doing to help those in need. Through consistent and frequent messaging with townspeople and in coordination with other charitable providers, duplication of effort was avoided thereby assuring near 100% efficiency of funds received from donors. As weekly distribution progressed from 200 through 754 to 830 grocery bags, other requirements would be identified by the Task Force. 19

More Than Food Alone This issuance of raw food staples to an ever-appreciative population would give way for the need to supply propane gas to homes. This aspect would require Ali’s Army to survey the population, determine need, and to negotiate and define a closed-loop distribution system with a local supplier. Within a few weeks from the start, a selective and on-demand system would be launched to allow for the continuance of home prepared meals, thereby safeguarding the dignity of those in need. With the amount of food delivery outweighing the capability of the PEACE staff to offload trucks and stock distribution points, the National Guard would soon be deployed to assist in the humanitarian effort. The local commandant rapidly deployed soldiers who would soon take over all receiving and handout procedures. In addition, their presence assured order, social distancing, and solemn respect for the process. The soldiers would perform their duties with sincerity, care, and consideration for recipients.

The Plan Going Forward At the time of this publication, the HRA continues to fulfill its promise to provide sustenance to needy townspeople even though return to school by children and return to work by their parents remains uncertain. A second round of funding by caring and selfless donors from Mexico, Canada, and the United States of America has secured the duration of the program, and nothing would exist without them. The HRA remains confident that its inplace monitors will assure the gradual de-escalation of the program similar in the manner in which it was launched. The most honorable mention goes to: PEACE Punta de Mita, PEACE USA, the Canadian Children’s Shelter of Hope Foundation, Fundación Punta de Mita, and Fundación Dine Punta Mita. 20

PUNTA DE MITA INICIATIVA DE AYUDA HUMANI TARIA 2020 Un esfuerzo local de recaudación de fondos y alimentos para apoyar a las familias desempleadas que llaman hogar a Punta de Mita.

El 28 de febrero de 2020, México se convierte en el segundo país de Latinoamérica con los primeros casos confirmados de infección por COVID-19, y el gobierno anuncia la entrada en vigor del Plan Nacional de Contingencia Fase 1. Poco después, el gobierno del estado de Nayarit decide suspender toda actividad escolar; señal de que el virus tendría estragos sobre los pueblos aledaños a Punta Mita. El 11 de marzo, la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) declara el brote COVID-19 como pandemia. En vista de estos acontecimientos, la mesa directiva de PEACE Punta de Mita decide tomar cartas en el asunto en favor de la comunidad. Siendo la educación de 1,300 niños la principal misión de PEACE Punta de Mita, y anticipándose al desempleo a gran escala que sufrirían sus padres, decide modificar temporalmente sus objetivos y dar sustento a estas familias. Sabiendo que esta sería una tarea titánica que requeriría de muchos voluntarios, una fuente importante de suministro de alimentos, una red de distribución semanal controlada, y una iniciativa de relaciones públicas de gran alcance capaz de atraer rápidamente a cientos de posibles donadores. Gracias a las relaciones personales entre las cabezas de varias organizaciones se pudo definir rápidamente el quién, qué, cuándo, dónde y cómo desarrollar esta estrategia y ya con un plan establecido, la mesa directiva de PEACE aprobó por unanimidad los fondos que cubrirían el primer mes. A la par, Fundación Dine Punta Mita se suma a esta iniciativa lanzando una intensa campaña de concientización a través de sus diferentes canales de comunicación para recibir más donaciones. El Supermercado La Comer hizo una exhaustiva revisión de sus operaciones internas para realizar la entrega semanal de las despensas (prácticamente al costo), y que pudiéramos ahorrarnos costos de almacenamiento externo y embalaje gracias a la ayuda de su personal. El plan inicial contemplaría la entrega de despensas al 31 de agosto de 2020, fecha que coincidiría con la reapertura de las escuelas. Sin embargo, meses después, se tomaría la decisión de mantener vivo el programa hasta el 31 de octubre. Con el propósito de determinar quiénes y cuántos destinatarios se verían beneficiados, el personal de PEACE (que más tarde se conocería como “El ejército de Ali”) realizó varias reuniones de emergencia con los líderes y jueces de las tres comunidades: Emiliano Zapata, Corral del Risco e Higuera Blanca (compuestas por cerca de 3,800 personas y un total de 1,100 familias), acordando de manera conjunta realizar un censo poblacional en el que se recabarían los siguientes datos: número de miembros que conforma cada familia, actividad económica que realizan, si mantienen sus empleos, dirección, teléfono, etc. Esta información brindaría una noción detallada de su situación socio-económica, y sería nuestro criterio de selección para la entrega de despensas. Durante las semanas siguientes, el personal de Fundación Dine Punta Mita se encargaría de imprimir credenciales con fotografía con el propósito de garantizar que el apoyo a estas familias llegara de manera semanal, constante y gratuita. Así fue como después de incontables horas de planeación nació “La Iniciativa de Ayuda Humanitaria de Punta de Mita” (conocida por sus siglas en inglés como HRA). 22

Comité de Trabajo Desde el día uno, el personal de Fundación Dine Punta Mita trabajó de la mano con el ejército de Ali para realizar la entrega de las despensas en los diversos puntos de distribución. La dirección y control de la operación cayó bajo la responsabilidad del Comité de Trabajo, que en reuniones semanales presentaban un reporte con las lecciones aprendidas por el personal de primera línea y realizaban la planificación conforme a la evolución del programa. Se invitó a la Fundación Punta de Mita a unirse al cuerpo directivo con el propósito de compartir información valiosa acerca de lo que otras entidades y personas estaban haciendo para ayudar a la gente necesitada. La comunicación constante con la gente del pueblo y otras fundaciones y organizaciones sociales fue vital para evitar duplicar esfuerzos y asegurar que se estaban aprovechando al 100% las donaciones de nuestros benefactores. Con el paso del tiempo, el Comité de Trabajo identificó que sería necesario aumentar el número de despensas de 200 a 754, hasta llegar a las 830 despensas semanales.

“Se requiere de mucho esfuerzo y disciplina para no detenernos ante las dificultades y nunca desmayar para lograr nuestro objetivo: ayudar a las familias de nuestra comunidad que se han visto afectadas por esta dificultad que a nivel mundial nos ha tocado a todos por igual, pero que únicamente trabajando en conjunto vamos a lograr superar.” Ali Elias, directora ejecutiva de PEACE Punta de Mita. “El cuidar de los más necesitados durante una crisis como la que estamos viviendo saca sin duda lo mejor de las personas. Me siento sumamente conmovido por la gran cantidad de donaciones recibidas por parte de nuestros benefactores, el esfuerzo incansable del personal de primera línea, y la unión de varias entidades locales por servir al bien común de nuestra gente. Estoy muy honrado de ser parte de esto.” Ron Budacz, presidente de PEACE Punta de Mita.

Más que solo alimentos Esta iniciativa iría aún más lejos gracias al suministro de gas propano en los hogares. Nuevamente el ejército de Ali pone manos a la obra determinando las necesidades de la población a través de una encuesta, y llegando a un acuerdo con un proveedor local para que se encargue del suministro. De esta manera otorgamos a muchas familias la posibilidad de poder disfrutar de sus alimentos con dignidad y en familia en sus propios hogares. Al llegar al punto en que la cantidad de despensas superó la capacidad del personal de PEACE para descargar camiones y hacer su distribución a los diferentes puntos de entrega, la Guardia Nacional llegaría para sumarse a este esfuerzo humanitario. El comandante local desplegó rápidamente a sus soldados, quienes pronto tomarían el liderazgo de recepción y entrega de una manera devota, con sinceridad, cuidado y consideración a los beneficiarios; además de que su presencia garantizaba el orden, el distanciamiento social y el respeto solemne por el proceso.

Avanzando en la misma dirección Al momento de esta publicación, el HRA mantendría su compromiso de proporcionar sustento a la gente del pueblo necesitada, independientemente de que los niños regresen a la escuela o que sus padres recuperen sus trabajos. Una segunda ronda de donaciones por parte de gente solidaria y desinteresada de México, Canadá y Estados Unidos permitió la existencia y duración del programa, y sin ellos nada de esto habría sido posible. El HRA culminará de la misma manera en que inició, de una manera gradual y desacelerada. AN UNEXPECTED QUARANTINE IN PARADISE Our experience in Punta Mita by Victoria Salguero

The complicated situation that we are going through due to COVID-19 brough an unexpected but wonderful experience in Punta Mita, one of the most incredible destinations along Mexico’s Pacific coast: two months of living, working, and studying from a paradise as unique and charming as Punta Mita.

The strictest phase of this quarantine found us while vacationing for several days in this wonderful place where we come as often as we can, and where we have made great friends. Mexico closed its business, schools, offices, and requested that everyone remain where they were at the time, and to stay at home. In that moment we decided to make Punta Mita our home for several weeks without knowing that this experience would become the best decision we could have made in the context of such uncertainty in which we were living at that time. Why? Because we knew we were taking all the necessary precautions, there was a hospital of the highest caliber of quality nearby in case of an emergency, and we were within 700 hectares of incredible surroundings that include beaches, golf courses, and tree-shaded walking paths on which to walk without being in direct contact with any other person. The extremely diligent Punta Mita staff continued to offer –in the safest way – an array of services, which included take away from the delicious Pacifico Beach Club. We always felt cared for in the characteristic warmth and commitment in every single space of this magnificent beachside community. It is a family-friendly atmosphere, protected with the strictest sanitation protocols –but without that urgent, toxic, or paranoic sensation that has arisen in so many of the big cities around the globe. Nayarit state, where Punta Mita is located, was not very affected by Covid-19 as a result of the responsible actions taken early

by governmental authorities and members of the community to maintain the state, and therefore Punta Mita, as a Covidless destination. We never felt fearful because the all of our community members were being responsible and careful. Punta Mita enabled us to work from home, and our children were able to continue their classes in homeschooling format without any inconvenience. While focused on our work we were also able to look out over the ocean from our incredible Hacienda de Mita terrace, the Punta Mita community where we were staying. In the afternoons, we were able to get out for walks and bike rides, breathing fresh air and enjoying a climate that would be the envy of any sun and beach destination in the world. On weekends, we connected with nature by walking along the beach or spending time under a magnificent tree while enjoying a picnic together with the best sunset views in the Pacific. And, always, a little bit of golf, some stolen waves to surf from deserted beaches, and the essential daily searches for shells to complement the collection of “Punta Mita Mermaids” that my 4-year-old daughter will soon feature in her bedroom. We are absolutely grateful to Punta Mita for allowing us to spend this quarantine with consciousness, warmth, at a safe distance, and with enormous tranquility. With our loved ones taking care of us, close to the nature, breathing and enjoying fresh air. As a family, we feel absolutely privileged because -despite the weight of the context which we, as humanity, had to go through– being able to spend it in Punta Mita was to understand on a deep level what it is to experience authentic luxury.

Una cuarentena inesperada en el Paraíso Nuestra experiencia en Punta Mita

Esta complicada situación por la que estamos atravesando debido al COVID-19 nos regaló una experiencia maravillosa e inesperada aquí en Punta Mita, uno de los destinos mas increíbles del Pacifico Mexicano. Dos meses viviendo, trabajando y estudiando desde un paraíso incomparable y encantador como lo es Punta Mita.

La fase más estricta de la cuarentena en México nos encontró vacacionando unos días en este maravilloso lugar al que venimos siempre que podemos y donde tenemos grandes amigos. México cerró sus comercios, escuelas, oficinas, y nos pidió a todos que nos quedáramos en donde estábamos, en casa. En ese momento decidimos hacer de Punta Mita nuestro hogar durante varias semanas de la cuarentena sin saber que esta experiencia se convertiría probablemente en la mejor decisión que pudimos haber tomado en un contexto tan incierto como el que se vivía en ese momento. ¿Por qué? Porque sabíamos que contábamos con todas las precauciones necesarias, con un Hospital de primer nivel a disposición en caso de cualquier emergencia, con 700 hectáreas de un entorno increíble con playas, campos de golf y caminos arbolados para caminar sin necesidad de entrar en contacto directo con otras personas. El extremandamente cuidadoso equipo de Punta Mita continuó ofreciéndonos de manera segura varios servicios, como el riquísimo servicio de take away del club de playa Pacífico.Siempre nos sentimos atendidos y cuidados con la calidez y compromiso que los caracterizan, permitiéndonos disfrutar de cada espacio de esta espectacular comunidad a orillas del mar. Es un ambiente familiar, protegido, con estrictas medidas sanitarias, pero sin la sensación de urgencia, toxicidad y paranoia que se despertó en muchas de las grandes urbes a nivel global. El Estado de Nayarit, en donde se encuentra Punta Mita, no fue muy afectado por el COVID-19, ya que las autoridades 26

y la comunidad tomaron medidas responsables para mantener al Estado, y más aún a Punta Mita, como un destino con poco COVID. Jamás sentimos temor ya que todos los residentes de la comunidad eramos responsables y precavidos. Punta Mita nos permitió trabajar a distancia y que nuestros hijos continuaran sus clases en modo homeschooling sin ningún inconveniente. Mientras nos concentrábamos en nuestras tareas podíamos mirar el mar desde nuestra increíble terraza en Hacienda de Mita, el subcondomino en donde nos encontrábamos. Por las tardes, podíamos salir a caminar o pasear en bici, y respirar aire puro disfrutando de un clima que sería la envidia de cualquier destino de sol y playa mundial. Los fines de semana, nos conectábamos con la naturaleza, con caminatas por la playa, o sentados a la sombra de un maravilloso árbol mientras disfrutábamos de un picnic con las mejores vistas del atardecer de todo el Pacífico. Y siempre había un poco de Golf, algunas olas robadas para surfear unos minutos en playas desiertas, y la imprescindible búsqueda diaria de caracolas para agregar a la colección “Sirenas de Punta Mita”, que muy pronto exhibirá mi hija de cuatro años en el museo de su habitación. Estamos absolutamente agradecidos a Punta Mita por habernos permitido pasar esta cuarentena con conciencia, calidez, a distancia y con enorme tranquilidad. Con nuestros seres queridos cuidados, cerca de la naturaleza, respirando y disfrutando del aire puro. Como familia nos sentimos absolutamente privilegiados ya que a pesar del contexto tan difícil que nos tocó atravesar como humanidad, pasarlo en Punta Mita fue entender a profundidad lo que es hablar de auténtico lujo.

For many of our nearly 400 member families, who have chosen Punta Mita as their “home away from home,” the sense of community begins at our Golf Club. If you are new to this community, you might be wondering “what makes the golf club special?” What makes any golf club special? Surprisingly, you can begin to answer this by asking yourself “What makes a golf club special to me?” What seems like a relatively simple question, at first, tends to evoke answers which are revised and rephrased multiple times: a fun atmosphere, pristine course conditions, fast greens, the ability to meet new friends, a great energy, lively events, creating lasting relationships… these are all likely answers offered right away. I have engaged in this conversation literally hundreds of times because I am continually interested in the answers I hear. Naturally, more time and experience within the club world elicits a more nuanced answer. Interestingly, almost always there is something to learn or remember from these answers because they provide a wonderful insight into what that person cherishes. This topic, the intangible mix of qualities which combined make a golf club “special,” is frequently discussed among the ranks of private golf club members and golf club operators. The answers offered often say more about the speaker than the club itself. The qualities highlighted can be both specific yet elusive, tangible but also esoteric. People might point out something as seemingly benign as a milkshake or they may speak glowingly about exclusivity. Such a wide variety of answers hints at the reality that it is, in fact, a highly unique and difficult chemistry to master. It is for this very reason that we celebrate and seek to emulate those rare clubs that can capture it. Punta Mita Golf Club has grown and matured over 20 years, and the combination of several critical ingredients has led us to where we now stand: an inflection point of awareness by both the outside world (one could say we’ve been “discovered”) and by a growing group of members who truly cherish the special energy and sense of community they experience here. The Vibe

One, if not the most, alluring aspect of the Punta Mita Golf Club, is that it sits within a community that boasts a mix of stunning natural and created amenities; 5 beach clubs, restaurants, amazing views, 270 degrees of water frontage, walking/jogging paths, overall size and grandeur; each of which could easily be the subject of their own unique article in this magazine. Where else can you find all of this together? Certainly, nowhere I have seen. One of my favorite experiences is to spend the day driving friends and family around the entire property in a Mita Carts golf cart. Typically, we start by heading to Tail of the Whale restaurant for one of Chef Bertha’s amazing “desayuna” specialties,* where I take advantage to show off our recently renovated Punta Mita Practice Facility. *Pro tip: My favorite breakfast item at “TOW” is the Poblano Poached Eggs – You will thank me. After breakfast, we ride across the property to Kupuri Beach Club, proudly flaunting its irresistible serpentine pool, layered rows of beach chairs, gorgeous views of Litibu Bay, and the simply perfect© palapa bars. Then, we move on to Sufi Beach Club, here I like to showcase the bewitching views of Banderas Bay, the pier, and our Punta Mita Ocean Sports floating dock. Countless tours have taught me that lounging at the Sufi pool and snacking on Chef Pato Persico’s curated selection of small bites from Sufito, is an experience that is tough to beat. Finally, we end the tour at Pacifico Beach Club, where we hang out at the beach, enjoy some sunset cocktails, and share meaningful connections. Every group I’ve taken on the above itinerary, has been left amazed and wonderfully exhausted but always ready to return and do it again. Their sense of awe at the size, beauty, and understated luxury that our corner of the world offers makes my day. Every. Single. Time. (Caveat: The above itinerary must now be extended to include El Surf Club, Punta Mita’s newest beach club addition and an experiential departure from any other Punta Mita amenity. Part Nikki Beach-esque, part Eden Rock but uniquely Punta Mita through and through... A must-see for every guest. My first evening was intended to be a post-golf cocktail with Carl Emberson and Brendan Wood to see it and feel it but 30

Writing this article, I discovered a significant insight which centers on the juxtaposition of size vs. intimacy. Punta Mita is a massive place, but it never feels that way. In fact, it feels intimate. To test this, one must simply visit one of the beach clubs or restaurants. This is true at both hotels too. Whether enjoying the casual beach energy at Mita Mary’s at the St. Regis or lounging at the Shack Bar at the Four Seasons, there is this incredible sense of intimacy shared among the residents and guests. Conversations are easy, introductions are breezy, and connections are relaxed and easy to find. A truly intoxicating atmosphere. It reminds me of the feeling I had when visiting Southeast Asia, or any other remote backpacker destinations, that sense of adventure, and the shared experience of being “in the know” about a secret spot, except we are only a three-hour flight from Denver or Los Angeles.

The Members and Our Member Events

All the above ingredients don’t come to life without the participation, passion, and love of a great membership. A great club creates opportunities for friendship and socializing, for competition and camaraderie, however, just like a great party, it’s the people who truly bring any event to legendary status; and Punta Mita members LOVE to party! They bring a competitive fire to traditional golf events, like our Member-Member in November and the Tail of the Whale Member-Guest in late Januar. Everyone tries to add their names to one of our Club Championship trophies in early April. While our Punta Mita “Majors” keep improving and gaining size and stature, it might be our uniquely Punta Mita events that really set us apart, like Dermott O’Flanagan’s Nine, Whine & Dine, held every Sunday afternoon throughout the high season, a member favorite which now regularly sees 50-60 weekly participants. According to Mr. Flanagan, “Nine, Whine & Dine came about circa 12 or 13 years ago, essentially out of a desire to create a social event that would encourage friendships among members, develop a club atmosphere, and create some community spirit within Punta Mita.” O’Flanagan continues, “Recently Robyn and Gordon Ritchie decided to tempt our pallets with their donation of a seasons’ supply of the best tequila in Mexico, Tequileno (pictured with the

Pope). One bottle every week for the team winning [closest to] the pin… On another occasion, the Pope was in town and for some reason heard about Wine & Dine and decided to join us. The photo attached shows him doing his version of Danny Boy (by the way he is a great singer!).” This type of enthusiasm and energy perfectly demonstrates the magic of Punta Mita. Then, there are the non-golf events like the Punta Mita Carnaval, held in late February, when dozens of costume-clad members and business partners transform golf carts into themed Carnaval “floats” to drive the “parade route;” which finishes at the driving range for drinks, prizes, and general merriment. There is also the Punta Mita Concert Series, when local and not-so-local artists perform live for our members from a gorgeous outdoor venue with Pacific Ocean views; which also happens to be our driving range. Live music, fresh hand-crafted cocktails, and gourmet graband-go treats –what a cool concept! While our most widely known event does include golf, Gourmet & Golf, it is primarily a culinary extravaganza. Hosted across the entire property at venues large and small, G&G is the quintessential blend of gourmet cuisine, great parties, and, oh yeah, a huge golf tournament too.

Bringing It All Together

It probably goes without saying that it takes a huge amount of dedication for destinations like Punta Mita to thrive. Above, I touched on the people who breathe life into all the amazing amenities and events, but those places and parties would never exist without Dine’s visionary ownership and their wonderful partnership with the management team at Four Seasons. This brings up an important and unifying point: when the magic starts to happen, everyone can feel it. The directors, the staff, the members, everyone feels the energy of a club that’s getting “it” right. The staff and the whole team are focused and having fun, at the golf club, the beach clubs, the events, and people want to be part of it. It is the positive feedback loop I mentioned earlier. Ownership trusts their leaders, leaders create great opportunities, an amazing team takes pride in their efforts and shows joy in their work, members respond and elevate the entire affair with their own energy, pride, and support. Ciertamente, en ninguna parte que haya visto. Una de mis experiencias favoritas es pasar el día conduciendo a amigos y familiares por toda la propiedad en un carrito de golf Mita Carts. Striking at first sight, this home is the epitome of posh and polished. Bob, Paula, and their good friends, also their business partners, Rocky and Mega, had one main purpose in mind when building this villa and that was to fully take advantage of the captivating surroundings. Secondly, but equally as important as setting the stage, they wanted to allow the guests to ebb and flow through the home according to their heart’s desire. Featuring unobstructed ocean views from almost every corner and breathtaking outdoor living spaces, this dramatic dwelling plays the lead in modern architecture inside the newly developed community of Kupuri Estates. Upon arrival, you are welcomed by a stunning entrance, which is composed by a stairway bounded on each side by monumental waterfall walls. Each wall intricately made of thousands of handplaced small black pebbles. Creating a divine first impression, the sound of water trickling down fuses with a whispering ocean breeze. At once, you are compelled to discover more. Before leading you on to the “social floor,” as the owners like to refer to the main layer of the home, the foyer greets you with the first glimmering sight of the ocean, who by the way is the main protagonist of this residence. A fluid floor plan that veils the divide between indoor and outdoor spaces, guides in you through a corridor where you notice the tastefully textured concrete walls offering a sense of warmth all throughout. Bursting with brilliant sunlight and enveloped by sliding glass doors on three sides, the entertainment heart of the home is comprised of an open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area to the right and an ocean-facing game room to the left. When walking in for the first time, be prepared to be dazzled by what comes next: sweeping views of the sparkling ocean and ridged coastline. A truly hypnotizing experience. The choice is yours. Making your way back to the house, you might notice an appetizing aroma emanating from the ocean view kitchen where the chef prepares a gourmet dish. Villa moderna con vista al mar

Sorprendente a primera vista, esta casa es el epítome de elegante y refinado. Bob, Paula y sus buenos amigos, también sus socios comerciales, Rocky y Mega, tenían un propósito principal en mente al construir esta villa y era aprovechar al máximo el cautivador entorno. En segundo lugar, pero tan importante como preparar el escenario, querían permitir que los invitados fluyeran y refluyeran por la casa de acuerdo con el deseo de su corazón. Con vistas al mar sin obstáculos desde casi todos los rincones e impresionantes espacios de vida al aire libre, esta espectacular vivienda juega el papel principal en la arquitectura moderna dentro de la comunidad recientemente desarrollada de Kupuri Estates. A su llegada, será recibido por una impresionante entrada, que está compuesta por una escalera delimitada a cada lado por monumentales paredes de cascada. Cada pared está intrincadamente hecha de miles de pequeños guijarros negros colocados a mano. Punta Mita significa una parte muy importantes de los últimos 25 años de mi vida. ¿Cuáles han sido los retos más significativos que has tenido que enfrentar durante tu carrera? Mantener la puntualidad y el atractivo de un Desarrollo Inmobiliario con las caracteristicas que posee Punta Mita, el nivel de clientes y expectativas que genera, inovando continuamente y generando valor para nuestros clientes ha sido un verdadero reto y una meta personal por la que luchar en todos estos años. 62

In early December 2019 Punta Mita celebrated its 20th birthday with a weekend-long celebration on to welcome a new season and herald a host of new openings and significant renovations inside and outside the gates of the beloved vacation destination community. To kick off the 20th Anniversary celebration a Fashion Show poolside at Kupuri Beach Club showcased the 20 Year Anniversary Collections by Mexican designers Raquel Orozco, Lynda Lavin & Vanessa Guckel along with USA designer Anine Bing followed by a Gourmet Dinner prepared by the Chefs of Punta Mita: Jorge González from the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, Manuel Peruyero from the St Regis Punta Mita, Felipe Pelayo from Sufi Restaurant and our Beach Clubs Executive Chef Pato Persico. The evening also marked the release to our Members of a special book on Punta Mita to celebrate the occasion by Assouline authored by Punta Mita Residents Lynne Bairstow and produced by Carl Emberson-Punta Mita- a collector’s item for one to learn more about this fascinating destination, culturally rich history, full of colorful imagery and stories about the destination. On the following day a full field competed in the 20th Anniversary Punta Mita golf cup with the presence of Punta Mita regular Craig Stadler as our special guest. All participants received a special Barrel Select limited edition tequila by Patron which is also available for our Members to add to their Punta Mita bars. The weekend Celebrations concluded with the 8th edition of the Flavors of Punta Mita event at the Four Seasons Punta Mita, an event involving all the restaurants of Punta Mita and raising funds for the 2 local charities, Peace and Fundacion Punta de Mita in what was a wonderful climax to a very special weekend.

As Punta Mita celebrated one could appreciate how much it had contributed to the destination of Riviera Nayarit over the years which was as we entered 2020 being called by Bloomberg as the next “it” destination in Mexico with Punta Mita is the crown jewel in the center of it all. These private villas, condos and penthouses with spectacular views and modern amenities while in January Las Vistas Estates were launched boasting one of kind views of the peninsula of Punta Mita. As the end of the 2019- 2020 season was approaching in mid- March COVID 19 hit our shores and has made 2020 a year without doubt like no other, as we have all affronted the challenges that the pandemic has bought to all our lives. Uno de los principales responsables es el Chef ejecutivo Jorge González quien está al frente de un sólido equipo creativo. Platicar con él resultó una provocación para gozar de la cocina del Four Seasons. Originario de Guadalajara, el Chef González se formó inicialmente en el entrañable ceremonial de la cocina familiar. De acuerdo con él la legitimación internacional de la comida mexicana llegó gracias al trabajo de muchos de sus colegas, que como él, se han arriesgado a intervenir respetuosamente la esencia de la cocina mexicana con recursos actuales. Se trata de tender puentes entre la experimentación, los sabores del mundo y los maravillosos productos locales.

Para el Chef González la cultura local es imprescindible. “Punta Mita valora su región. La Cruz de Huanacaxtle y Bucerías son pueblos que ofrecen por un lado la histórica presencia de cooperativas de pescadores y por el otro, la tradición del buceo libre que pone en nuestras mesas ostiones, erizos, pescados, camarones, etc. Mi inspiración está en los productos nayaritas que vienen del mar y de la tierra. Aquí somos bendecidos, tenemos una pesca del día artesanal. Además en Four Seasons ofrecemos la experiencia única de salir con nuestros huéspedes al mar con cañas, arpones y equipo de esnórquel. Sacamos erizo, pescado, pulpo, luego venimos y lo cocinamos, el resultado es inolvidable.”

Entregarse a los placeres que ofrece el Four Seasons es muy fácil, tarea difícil es definir las preferencias, especialmente en lo que a gastronomía se refiere. A Taste of Punta Mita pays tribute to all the Chefs in the area as well as those Chefs that have worked in Punta Mita in the past or visited and participated in any of our signature events such as Gourmet & Golf, Golf Kitchen or Chef’s Tables. FUNDACIÓN DINE PUNTA MITA A COMMITMENT THAT GROWS WITH OUR COMMUNITY The Fundación Dine Punta Mita (Dine Punta Mita Foundation) was born out of the organization’s commitment to the wellbeing and growth of Punta Mita’s closest neighboring community, the municipality Bahia de Banderas. For more than 20 years, the growth and sustainability of the region has been a priority for Punta Mita and for DINE. With this in mind, Fundación DINE PUNTA MITA was created, which has as its primary mission to join the community in projects that support education, employment preparedness, and the environment –and in this unusual moment in time that we are experiencing– health and essential resources for basic needs. With these core principles in mind and as the primary objectives of the Foundation, that it will also work closely with specific nonprofit organizations in the area, including Peace Punta de Mita and Fundación Punta de Mita, to ensure the closest and most efficient alliance possible. Among the projects identified as most important at the present time are:

Punta Mita Humanitarian Relief Appeal

an initiative launched in conjunction with Peace Punta de Mita to support families in the communities of Corral del Risco, Emiliano Zapata, and Punta de Mita with food baskets of basic supplies provided to local families. Thanks to this immense local effort more than $10,500,000.00 pesos were raised through donations and 260 tons of food were distributed to more than 830 families on a weekly basis, each Friday. A group of over 40 volunteers (comprised of Punta Mita staff and community members) worked together with soldiers from the National Guard to deliver a total of 23,600 food baskets by way of these weekly deliveries to support the Punta de Mita families who were without work resulting from the mandated restriction of activities.

Fundación DINE Punta Mita also collaborated with the local Association A.C. Mita with their Community Kitchen program that cooked and delivered breakfast and lunch for 16 uninterrupted weeks to more than 350 people in Corral del Risco, Emiliano Zapata, and Punta de Mita. Every day meals were prepared by volunteers from the Punta de Mita community, and every Tuesday the Punta Mita team assisted personally in this effort, joining efforts with this group that dedicated so much time, energy, and passion to guarantee the wellbeing of the local families that were in a critical situation, delivering more than 24,000 meals in total.

Fundación DINE Punta Mita also joined the campaign of the Government of Bahía de Banderas which included the participation of the Mayor of Bahía de Banderas in Punta de Mita for the delivery of food baskets to the neediest families. The PEACE Punta de Mita Summer Camp 2020 had as its main goal to support children between the ages of 6 and 12 years old with their virtual schooling over the summer months. A variety of open-air activities and children’s crafts and art projects were also organized, providing a safe space for the young members of the community to enjoy their summer despite these challenging times. One of the highlights of this initiative was the Amor por Bahía (Love for the Bay) project, supported by Fundación Dine Punta Mita. To close out this summer camp, a “Virtual Party” was held, which was a resounding success. We would like to thank all of those who collaborated with the Foundation and with our community; we will continue to be committed to the growth of Punta de Mita and Bahía de Banderas, as the best and only way to grow is to all grow together.

Un compromiso que crece con nuestra comunidad Fundación DINE Punta Mita nace del compromiso de la compañía con el bienestar y crecimiento de la comunidad más cercana a Punta Mita, el municipio de Bahía de Banderas. Por más de 20 años, el crecimiento y la sustentabilidad de la región han sido una prioridad para Punta Mita y DINE. Con esto en mente, se creó la Fundación DINE PUNTA MITA, cuya principal misión es acompañar a la comunidad en proyectos de educación, primer empleo, medio ambiente, y en este momento tan particular que estamos viviendo, salud y recursos de primera necesidad. En ese sentido y teniendo como puntal el objetivo de la Fundación, es que se trabaja también con distintas asociaciones, como Fundación Peace Punta de Mita y Fundación Punta de Mita, para asegurar un trabajo estrechamente coordinado y la mayor eficiencia posible. Entre los proyectos más destacados de este último tiempo se encuentran:

Diariamente las comidas fueron preparadas por voluntarios de la localidad de Punta de Mita y los días martes el equipo de Punta Mita asistía físicamente en el apoyo de esta actividad social junto a todo el grupo que dedicaron su esfuerzo y pasión para garantizar el bienestar de las familias en situación crítica entregando más de 24.000 comidas a lo largo de la actividad. Fundación DINE Punta Mita también se sumó a la campaña del Gobierno de Bahía de Banderas, que contó con la presencia del Presidente Municipal de Bahía de Banderas en Punta Mita para la entrega de despensas a las familias más necesitadas.

Peace Punta de Mita Summer Camp 2020 tuvo como objetivo acompañar a los niños de distintos grados, entre los 6 y 12 años, en su escolaridad de forma virtual durante el verano. Se pusieron en marcha distintas actividades al aire libre, manualidades y arte para que los niños puedan tener un espacio donde disfrutar a pesar del contexto en el que nos hallamos. Una de las más destacadas fue el proyecto Amor por Bahía, que contó con el apoyo de Fundación Dine Punta Mita. Para el cierre del CAMP se realizó una “Fiesta Virtual“ que resultó un éxito rotundo. Agradecemos a todos los que colaboran con la Fundación y con nuestra comunidad, continuaremos comprometidos con el crecimiento de Punta de Mita y Bahía de Banderas, ya que la mejor y única manera de crecer, es todos juntos.

Greetings and best wishes from all of us at Punta Mita Hospital. As our community prepares to return for the new season, we’ve had many inquiries re Covid testing and patient care protocols. As such, we thought it would help to send an update detailing the treatment/ control measures we’ve adopted to keep our corner of the world as safe as possible. As caregivers, we’re accustomed to functioning under stressful conditions. It’s the norm and what we do, but these past few months took us well beyond the norm and our team never blinked. So before I begin, I’d like to recognize the PMH doctors, nurses and staff for their hard work, vigilance and ongoing commitment. We are very fortunate to have such a devoted healthcare team in PM.

Covid Response Phase I In late May, we made the decision to create a Covid Care Response Unit. Our goal was to provide the highest level of treatment possible for Covid patients while minimizing the spread of infection. Our first steps: • We dedicated three hospital rooms in the rear of the main building for exclusive use by Covid patients. • To ensure isolation, we closed access to the main hospital, so the only entry and exit option to the Covid Unit was thru a single outside rear door. • Selected a Covid team of doctors, nurses, and ICU critical care specialists who would be physically excluded from the hospital’s general area and all other staff. • Acquired a large quantity of (approved) personal protective equipment for exclusive use by the Response Unit. • Assigned three of our four ventilators to the Covid Unit retaining one in ICU. • Reinforced our emergency first response team by adding a 3rd ambulance and an ATV (with full resuscitation capability) to the fleet. • Added two mobile ventilators for paramedics use during ambulance transport. • Secured the first Rapid Antibody testing kits in the Bay.

Covid Response Phase II By mid-summer, doctors throughout the Bay were asking if we’d accept their Covid patients? They respected our protocols and knew our pricing was, in most cases, 50% lower than other hospitals. Initially, we planned to hold rooms for local patients, but the infection rate was very low in our community, so we agreed to open Covid care to all on a space-available basis. 118

As of this writing, twenty confirmed cases have been admitted to and cared for in our Covid Response ward. Most were PV residents who came to us based on a physicians’ recommendation and their average stay was seven to ten days. All were discharged after making a full recovery and currently, we have no Covid patients in the hospital. Considering the long hours and stressful conditions on a Covid ward, our Response Unit did well together. Morale was good and they enjoyed the psychic benefits of discharging patients to appreciative families. As the team’s successes and confidence grew, we began to mull the idea of adding more beds. Short term, they could be exclusive to Covid patients and if not required, the hospital would have extra capacity for general needs. Our plan included: • Design of a new four-bed building that would attach to the rear of the hospital. The completion date is end of October. • Purchase of an Isolation Capsule for patients suspected of being infected and requiring ambulance transport. • Significantly increase our inventory of Rapid Antibody Test kits. • Search for a lab partner that could guarantee faster processing for our PCR tests.

PMH Offers Two Forms of Testing Not that long ago, getting tested required hope and prayer. Availability was very limited and the process tricky to navigate. To qualify for a Covid-19 PCR genetic test, individuals had to submit an application to the Secretaría de Salud and processing times were lengthy. If approved, getting results could take another two to three weeks. To address the need, we sourced and purchased Rapid Antibody kits. Quantities were limited at first, but we now have inventory and able to acquire more if needed. We also made Covid PCR testing available through private labs with results in 3-5 days. Realizing this was not adequate and wanting to do better, we found and now partner with a local lab that can return results within 24 hours and in some cases, the same-day of testing. Each option serves a different purpose and we encourage you to contact the hospital to discuss which is best for you and your family. Rapid Antibody Blood Test- measures the body’s immune response to the Covid-19 infection. Using a fingerstick, a droplet of blood is applied to an applicator and within minutes, two separate readings appear. The test determines if your body has mounted an immune response to Covid. The first reading tells us if you’ve been exposed recently, the other tells us if you’ve been exposed and developed an immune response. PCR Nasal Swab Test- detects the presence of the virus, rather than the presence of the body’s immune response, or antibodies using a lab technique called polymerase chain reaction or PCR. By detecting viral RNA, which will be present in the body before antibodies form or symptoms of the disease present, the test can tell whether or not someone is infected. Throat and nasal samples are collected by a trained technician and couriered to our lab for PCR processing. PMH was the first hospital in the district to offer expedited results and we now have the capacity to process up to 200 tests per day.

How To Get Tested Covid testing is available daily at PMH and it’s best to call in advance so we can prepare. Rapid Test results are immediate and PCR results within 24 hours. For those wanting a same day PCR reading (small additional fee) please book an appointment prior to 11:00am. If preferable, we can also perform testing at your Casa. New Testing Program for Villa Staff and Guests A new-tiered service recently introduced allows you to Covid test your household staff in advance of your arrival or arrival of your family, guests, or renters. If results are negative, we issue a formal certificate verifying the staff has been tested. We can also test arriving renters to protect your staff. New “Chart Your Health” Campaign for Punta de Mita Communities Punta Mita Hospital and PEACE Punta de Mita have initiated a “Chart Your Health” campaign for those families limited financially. Under the Medical Brigades partnership, select individuals (from local communities) will receive no-cost medical, nutritional and psychological screening. The findings will provide ongoing clinical records for those with none to aid in preventing and detecting diseases and ultimately, a healthier Punta de Mita. This program is truly a one-of-a-kind collaboration that would not be possible without the professional support and contributions of the following: • PEACE will identify qualified patients based on income need. • PMH is responsible for medical screening. • Municipal President of Bahia de Banderas (Dr. Jaime Alonso Cuevas Tello) is funding the psychological and nutritional evaluations. • Nutritional specialist will review patients’ current diet and provide recommendations. • PMH Foundation has donated 500 Covid antibody test kits to the program. Fase I de respuesta de Covid A fines de mayo, tomamos la decisión de crear una Unidad de respuesta de atención de Covid. Nuestro objetivo era proporcionar el más alto nivel de tratamiento posible para los pacientes de Covid mientras minimizamos la propagación de la infección. • Se adquirió una gran cantidad de equipo de protección personal (aprobado) para uso exclusivo de la Unidad de Respuesta. • Asignamos tres de nuestros cuatro ventiladores a la Unidad Covid y se retuvo uno en la UCI. • Reforzamos nuestro equipo de primera respuesta de emergencia agregando una tercera ambulancia y un vehículo todo terreno (con reanimación completa capacidad) a la flota. • Se agregaron dos ventiladores móviles para uso de paramédicos durante el transporte en ambulancia. • Obtuvimos los primeros kits de prueba rápida de anticuerpos en la Bahía.

Fase de respuesta de Covid II A mediados del verano, los médicos de la bahía nos preguntaban si aceptaríamos a sus pacientes con Covid. Respetaron nuestros protocolos y sabían que nuestros precios eran, en la mayoría de los casos, un 50% más bajos que los de otros hospitales. Inicialmente, planeamos albergar habitaciones para pacientes locales, pero la tasa de infección era muy baja en nuestra comunidad, por lo que acordamos abrir la atención de Covid a todos según el espacio disponible. Al momento de escribir estas líneas, veinte casos confirmados han sido admitidos y atendidos en nuestra sala de Covid. La mayoría eran residentes de PV que acudieron a nosotros en base a la recomendación de un médico y su estadía promedio fue de siete a diez días. Todos fueron dados de alta después de recuperarse por completo. Teniendo en cuenta las largas horas y las condiciones estresantes en una sala Covid, nuestra Unidad de Respuesta lo hizo bien en conjunto. La moral es buena y disfrutan de los beneficios psíquicos de dar de alta a los pacientes a familias agradecidas. PMH ofrece dos formas de prueba No hace mucho tiempo, hacerse la prueba requería esperanza y oración. La disponibilidad era muy limitada y el proceso era complicado. Cada opción tiene un propósito diferente y le recomendamos que se comunique con el hospital para analizar cuál es la mejor para usted y su familia. Con una punción en el dedo, se aplica una gota de sangre a un aplicador y, en cuestión de minutos, aparecen dos lecturas separadas. La prueba determina si su cuerpo ha montado una respuesta inmune a Covid. La primera lectura nos dice si ha estado expuesto recientemente, la otra nos dice si ha estado expuesto y ha desarrollado una respuesta inmune. Prueba de hisopado nasal de PCR: detecta la presencia del virus, en lugar de la presencia de la respuesta inmune del cuerpo o anticuerpos mediante una técnica de laboratorio llamada reacción en cadena de la polimerasa o PCR. Al detectar el ARN viral, que estará presente en el cuerpo antes de que se formen los anticuerpos o se presenten los síntomas de la enfermedad, la prueba puede determinar si alguien está infectado o no. Transforming the world is a powerful human trait, however our ability to blend with nature is not only vital to preserving our natural environments, but one of humanity’s greatest achievements. From the moment Punta Mita’s master developers set foot on the peninsula, they were struck by the natural wealth. They recognize the importance of protecting the original ecosystem. The crystal-clear water, powdery-white sand, exotic vegetation, and wildlife took precedence when deciding the future of the land. Integrating activity and nature The sustainable landscape plan intends to shape the land causing little damage to the original scene, while efficiently maintaining the changes over time. Take a look outside. What do you see? If you are in Punta Mita, chances are you can see rich vegetation and lengthy seascapes. You might also enjoy a verdant view of the golf course, and maybe you can even see construction around you. If you are member of our golfing community, you are probably familiar with holes 8 & 13, of the Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course, dubbed the Jurassic holes. Picture giant seabirds, somewhat like pterodactyls, and exuberant vegetation, somewhat like ancient plants, and you can be to imagine what a surreal experience it is to play golf there. It is undeniable that we have changed the original landscape. It is obvious that signature golf courses are not part of the natural landscape, but before rejecting them as a plausible conservation method consider this: what if a space designated to support outdoor activity, can ensure the area will remain free of concrete? The basis of this idea is to direct the inevitable change caused by our activities and repurpose it to protect the landscape, visually and ecologically. Thus, allowing for a productive interaction between people and the environment by finding a balance of nature and activity. Preserving the indigenous territory involves a thoughtful integration of lifestyle, landscape and the life it supports. Did you know that an estimated 70% of Punta Mita’s total surface is destined to remain untouched? As a result, when the resort is completed, less than a third of the terrain will be developed. This is great news for the native flora and fauna. Otherwise endangered species of plants and animals can safely inhabit the wild and untamed regions, like Careyeros hill behind Iyari Villas. You can easily experience the authentic atmosphere of the peninsula by going for a stroll on foot or on wheels. Wild boars, iguanas and wild cats are just some of the creatures you can spot along the pathways, for example like the paths leading to Kupuri. Embracing the native elements Have you ever seen Punta Mita from the outside? Notice how the existing architecture fuses with the landscape? If you have not, you must treat yourself and grab a paddle board or jump on a panga because there is as much to admire from the inside out as there is from the outside in. What stands out about this peninsula is, as viewed from the ocean, its natural tapestry. Lush, endemic vegetation envelops the man-made habitats. A scene by design.
