CITY OF SOUTH FULTON DISTRICT 1 YEAR IN REVIEW

Citywide Accomplishments •

SeeClickFix App was launched to provide a digital communications system (i.e. website and app) to assist users in communicating with local governments about non-emergency issues. Mayor William Edwards delivers first State of the City address and launches the Mayor of the Day Program to expose youth to the activities a Mayor experiences on any given day.

City hosts its first Career Expo at Aviation Community Cultural Center for businesses.

South Fulton Police and Fire Department launch Facebook pages.

City of South Fulton adopts Strategic Plan to guide the city through 2022.

The South Fulton City Council appoints residents to various boards to include the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, Public Arts Commission, and Older Americans Board.

Judge Fani Willis sworn in as the Chief Judge for the City of South Fulton Municipal Court.

The City’s first fire Chief Larry Few retires after 38 years of fire service.

The City of South Fulton launched its Park Ranger Patrol Unit to promote positive youth engagement with law enforcement personnel.

COSF receives GDOT LAP Certification which allows the city to administer federal aid projects through September 30, 2022.

Received $1.027 million in Local Maintenance Improvement Grants to invest in road and bridge improvements in the city.

Senator Donzella James recognized Hattie Cotton-Tukes as Police Officer for the Year; Chief Freddie Broome recognized as the State of Georgia’s Fire Chief of the Year and Sergeant David Tealer was recognized as Gang Investigator of the Year. Donna Dingler becomes Fire Marshal for the City of South Fulton.

The City of South Fulton launched the Police Citizen Portal (P2C) tool to help residents and stakeholders report incidents like aggressive driving, bad checks, trespassing, suspicious activity and more.

Residents were able to take advantage of two Citywide Clean-Up Days. Several drop-off locations were readily available to dispose of bulk waste and/or shred documents. Many of our seniors took advantage of the opportunity to request curbside pick-up.

Accompanied Mayor William “Bill” Edwards on his second annual Mayor’s Walk” in District 1 to hear feedback from business owners in our city!

The City of South Fulton Human Resources Department was recognized by the Georgia Local Government Personnel Association (GLGPA) and awarded the Agency Award of Excellence which recognizes the overall quality, accomplishments, and contributions of an agency human resource program that exceeds the normal operations.

City successfully launched ballot referendums to establish the city’s Homestead Exemption, the creation of Tax Allocation District legislation and increased the hotel motel taxes from 5% to 8% working with our state delegation and A.R. Long & Company.

Planners for Environmental Quality (PEQ) and The Wood Group were engaged by the city to lead and manage the Zoning Ordinance rewrite.

Launched 2020 Census Complete Count Committee to spearhead outreach and community engagement efforts in support of the city’s first census count.
