I have long believed that health is perhaps the “Most Common Denominator” in a region's potential for success as it is so intertwined with economic sustainability, eradicating poverty, preventing war, mitigating violence, and fostering social prosperity.
My work in humanitarian intervention missions and global health projects via the Center for Global Initiatives (http://www.centerforglobalinitiatives.org/programs.html) has taken me to a number of amazing places, as well as others that most folks would prefer not to go. Yet, it is precisely these challenging destinations that have provided the most profound insights. There is something inherently transformative about experiencing the resilience of communities in the face of adversity, the warmth of a welcome in the most remote regions, and the universal desire for health, peace, and security.
