Thistimeofyear,we’rebombardedwitharticlesonresolutions,antiresolutions,word-for-the-year,intensions,goal-planning,andbucket-lists ofallsorts.LinkedInevenhasanannual#BigIdea202X,andsoon…

IhavewhatIcall“TheList”or“LifeResume.”

MyListisn’tsomefleeting,obsessionalto-do-listorcollectionofsoonto beforgottenresolutionsthatjustfizzledandgotlostinadrawer,insteadit hasbecomeanadjunctive(orevenaugmenting)blue-printformylife.It hasturnedouttobeaterrificmotivatortofight-offinertia,lethargy,and couch-potatoism.

AsformyList,ithasevolvedasmanysuchwackythingslikejetskisand parasailingdidn'texistwhenIauthoredmyfirstversion.SeemslikeItend tooftenbeattractedtodoingthingswherethegoalisn’ttowin,perse, buttojustbehappytobeabletofinish(orlivetotellaboutit).

Itisterrificfuntoputacheck-markbyanotherchallengewhenit's accomplished.Itisterrificexcitementtohavealistofthingstolook

forwardtodoing.Itisaterrificmotivatortorunorwork-outonthoseI'mlazy-and-can-come-up-with-a-million-excuses-to-not-workout-daysifI havecommittedtodoingtheWorld’sTalleststair-climbrace,ora marathon,orevenjusta5K.TheListhasbeeninstrumentalindesigning trainingroutinesandnutritionalregimensthathavehelpedmestaybelow 10%bodyfataswellassummittechnicalrockfacesand3oftheworld's7 summitssofar.(Andhey,notallfunactivitiestakealotoftrainingto accomplish,likegainingaracinglicenseforroadracingmotorcyclesat RoadAmerica.) Andforme,mostofthemareNOTphysicalorathletic,but theweirdonesseemtobe.That’swhyIthoughtIsharesomeofmine here.Ihopeyoumayfindthisofuse,inspiration,orjustfun.(This is my revised version.)

InhighschoolIhadabestfriendwhowasanamazingcompetitive swimmer,andhadtherenotbeenaboycottofthe1980Olympics,Iam certainhewouldhavebeeninMoscowthatsummer.Ashistrainingwas mileaftermileofpoollaps,heconvertedhisdailymileagetoapapermap oftheMississippiandplottedthedistancesasifhehadswamdownthe river,whichwasnotonlyfun,butmotivatingforhimaswell.

Todaythereareanumberofversionsofsuchthings,andIjust finishedTankCurling.Thatis,fromDecember4thtoJanuary21st,Icurled two45pounddumbbells,20reps(10eacharm)for3sets.Themathis45 poundsx2armsx10repsx3sets=2700pounds.AnAbramsTank weightsaround55tons(giveortake)or110,000pounds. Ididthis41 times=110,700. ��

IdotheWimHofbreathingtechnique,andwhenWimwasonmy podcastwehadaminorfussabouttheresearch,butnevertheless,I doitdaily.

Speakingofbreathing,it’soneofmyproblemareas(longstory),soI alsousetheO2Trainerthatregulatesairintakeandimproves muscleoxygenefficiencyduringexercise.ItwasdesignedbyBas Ruttentoincreaseinspiratorymuscleendurance.

IalsolovemySuuntowatch.Ithasagreatcompanionappfor nerdingoutonmetrics,plushasagreatbatterylife,canrunmy phone’saudio,etc.

IusethefreeversionofZero,tokeeptrackandhelpmotivatemein doingadaily>18intermittentfast/timerestrictedeatingroutine.
