The Walkaround
Handy Reference
Yes, it’s that time of year again. Which time you ask? The time for the Annual Supplier Directory, of course! Back in the day, the local telephone company would distribute phonebooks each year, inclusive of the Yellow Pages, and everyone kept them handy Dennie Ortiz until the next one was delivered. This June issue is Publisher no different – a valuable resource, to use for the next 12 months, helps you find the industry’s top suppliers and the latest in their products and service offerings. Jam-packed with intel to keep your company ahead of the game, this edition covers so much that I’ll highlight just a few pieces for you. Trending in local and national news is the hot topic of catalytic converter theft that has implications not just for the public but for your business as well. Brian Riker provides the historical context of the advent of catalytic converters and the reasoning for the uptick of this thievery. Riker recommends how to best protect your equipment, your storage yards, while even delving into how you may be positioned to profit from the current demand. Always with his eye on the prize, Randall Resch in his article “Handle With Care” offers suggestions to increasing your revenue by servicing the niche market of exotic cars. Resch interestingly provides some “psychological tactics” to employ for earning and keeping these high-end customers. Need some ideas to help market your business? Look no further than the magazine in your hands by reading “Show Me the Money” authored by Kevin McMillan. Kevin makes the case that by following a few basic steps your company can increase its cash calls through online marketing. Snow in June? No thank you, although we do return to this past winter to showcase a challenging recovery, in challenging weather by Pine Tree Towing & Recovery out of Ohio. Be sure to take a look and meander through the obstacles faced by Pine Tree on this job. Closing out the issue is our Case Closed department. Attorney Josh Brown weighs the problems and potential solutions for regulating certain aspects of this industry. Read on and see if you agree with his assessment. Hope you find this issue informative and resourceful and as always stay safe out there!
Looking Ahead…
Steve Temple Editor
As a sneak preview, we have some exciting features in the works for upcoming issues. Recently I visited a couple of tow vehicle museums with fascinating candidates for our popular “Classic Wrecker” series. We have a few feature shoots on file, but we can always use more for a “fond look back” at the early days of towing, so feel free to email us with some sample shots and a brief description. On a more serious note, we realize towers are struggling with higher fuel prices and interest rates, along with other expenses, so we’ll be providing some ways to keep your overhead down. Hope to see you there!
