Study drawing, painting, architecture, photography, and art history in the South of France in a beautiful 17thcentury hamlet with a view overlooking the Rhone Valley and French Alps!

Un año después, en el 2000, Lizette abrió todas las gavetas de su taller y, con tijera en mano, inició una nueva faceta en su carrera al recortar su obra serigráfica y crear con ella mágicos collages. Y así, recortando y amarrando hilos, nació una obra magnífica que tituló Hilvanando una isla, pieza exenta de pared en la que cada lado muestra algo distinto.

En el 2013 Lizette Lugo colgó los guantes con el tamiz, sí, para tener las manos libres para los pinceles.

“Todo cambió. Volví a pintar. Todo lo que experimentaba lo traducía en imágenes. Evolucioné a hacer obras más pequeñas, pero muy mágicas porque soy muy surrealista”.

Tanto ella como su marido Sergio son así. Por eso, cuando regresaron a su casa luego del huracán María, vieron en su patio lo que ellos denominan como “estampas mágicas” con la flora y la fauna del lugar. De ahí surgió un nuevo mundo de creaciones en pareja e individuales, que van desde la música, la poesía, el dibujo, el collage, la pintura y la escultura en piedra.

Todas esas inspiraciones y producciones de los dos conviven en un taller que tienen en su hogar y que está siempre abierto a visitas. A ese espacio lo bautizaron con un nombre igualmente fantástico: Piedra, papel y las telas, el mismo que tuvo su más reciente y exitosa exhibición.

En este momento de sus vidas, en que ya han probado su valía, estos creativos, abuelos de siete chicos, tienen solo dos asignaciones pendientes: crear y recrearse a su ritmo de manera tan orgánica como crecen las plantas que rodean su estudio.

“En esta etapa uno no se quiere etiquetar como artistas plásticos, curanderos, poetas o locos. La consigna, es crear”.

A year later, in 2000, Lizette opened all the drawers in her workshop and, scissors in hand, started a new phase in her career by cutting up her screen printing works and creating magical collages with them. Thus, by cutting away and tying up threads, Hilvanando una isla (“Threading an Island”) was born, a magnificent freestanding art piece that shows something different on each side.

In 2013, Lizette did hang up her gloves... freeing her hands so she could take up the brush.

“Everything changed. I started painting again. Everything I was experiencing was translated into images. I went on to create pieces that were smaller but very magical, because I’m a surrealist at heart.”

Both she and her husband Sergio are like that. This is why when they returned home after Hurricane Maria, they caught glimpses of what they called “magical scenes” in their backyard, formed by the place’s fauna and flora. This gave way to a new world of creations —both joint and individual,— ranging from music, poetry, and drawings, to collages, paintings, and stone sculptures.

All of these inspirations and productions from both artists coexist in their home workshop, which is always open to visitors. They baptized the space with an equally fantastic name: Piedra, papel y las telas (“Rock, Paper, Fabrics”), the same name borne by their most recent and successful exhibition.

At this point in their lives, after having proven their worth, these artists, who are now grandparents to seven children, only have two pending assignments: to create and to recreate themselves at their own pace, as organically as plants grow around their studio.

“At this stage, you don’t want to label yourself as a visual artist, a healer, a poet, or a madman. The goal is to create.”
