Willie Nelson’s Country Throwdown Tour 2011 made one stop in North Carolina this year and it was the day-one entertainment headliner of Rapids Jam 2011 in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. The three-day concert festival kicked off June 16 at Carolina Crossroads behind The Roanoke Rapids Theatre just off I-95 at exit 171. Willie Nelson and friends performed that Thursday. Nelson’s national marketing firm announced the Country Throwdown Tour dates and locations. The second annual outdoor amphitheater trek offered a diverse lineup featuring Willie Nelson, Jamey Johnson, Randy Houser, Brantley Gilbert, Craig Campbell, Lee Brice, and Lukas Nelson (Willie’s son) and Promise of the Real.

This nationwide country music tour kicked off in Philadelphia May 27 and ran through July 4. “For them to include Rapids Jam in their announcement is really huge,” said Elizabeth Branham, Rapids Jam president. “We are getting a lot of national exposure because of it. Willie is not playing anywhere else in North Carolina and hasn’t in the state for a couple of years.”
