NC SUPPORT OUR TROOPS located in Ayden, North Carolina is a nonprofit organization formed with the mission to support troops and their family members by providing care and comfort items and expressions of appreciation for their service and sacrifices.
Packing care packages for our deployed troops is a way to show your support and appreciation for the service and sacrifices by our military members. We also provide support for troops at home, their families and veterans.
Below are some suggestions on how you can help...
Some ideas: Order items from Amazon, assemble goody bags with 6-8 items in a sandwich or party bag, add signed cards. Make as many as your family, church or bike group can help with! Make financial contributions for postage. Groups are welcome to setup GoFund me pages for postage. Our financial donations have dropped significantly and monetary donations for postage is our greatest need.

We had an excellent day supporting many many troops! Big thank you to all our partners, donors and volunteers! Volunteers today included our Crystal Coast volunteers, and General Davie DAR. Both groups brought wonderful donations for a day of preparing donations.
One of the things I enjoy most about riding with my husband is when we participate in a benefit ride. It never fails to thrill me to hear the engines of multiple bikes thottled in unity for a person, family, or organization in need. Being new to the motorcycle community, I had never realized how truly generous and compassionate bikers are. When a call goes out that there is a ride for a charitable cause or a family in need, bikers show up from all parts of the state — even from other states. They show up on Harleys, Hondas, bikes, and trikes. Some are seasoned riders, some less so. Some are with clubs. Some are just individuals who heard about the need and responded.
I have observed something else at those benefit rides, too: acceptance. It doesn’t seem to matter what cut or colors the bikers at these rallies wear. In all the rides in which we have participated over the last few years, we’ve not seen any animosity or friction between riders. They seem to accept whoever comes just like they are. For the time they ride together, they are unified in purpose.
They accept anyone and everyone that loves to ride. This is not only my observation but also my experience. My husband and I have never been made to feel unwelcome or “different” at rides — and let’s face it, a woman who looks less like a “biker chick” than me, you’d be hard pressed to find. (After all, how many biker chicks do you know that would hitch their hip against their ride and crochet while waiting for kickstands up?)
One of the most important facets of being a follower of Christ is unity. As God’s children, we are called to be unified, regardless of how long we’ve
been saved by grace, or how we came to be a part of God’s church, or what kind of mess Jesus saved us from. The thing that matters most is that we are family. When a sister or brother in Christ needs help, we, like the bikers who respond to benefit rides and rallies, are called to action: in prayer, in provision or just in presence in their time of need. We are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus. We are called to be the church.
Are you a part of the family of God? You can be, if you want to. It’s so simple that many find it hard to believe. Don’t let its simplicity trip you up. First, we have to acknowledge that we are all broken. You. Me. Every one of us. And we can’t fix ourselves. That brokenness is sin. Even if we manage to live a “good” life, it doesn’t undo the fact that we are not 100% good. We never will be.
But there is One who is. Jesus was and is 100% good. There was no sin in Him. Not a single speck. And He loved us so much that He took His perfection to the cross for US. You. Me. Every one of us. He took it there to pay for our sins and made a way for us to be reunited with God.
Jesus made the way, but YOU have to choose to walk in it. You have to admit your brokenness. You have to come to the Lord with a repentant heart, believing in Jesus’ payment for Your sin and accepting His sacrifice for your salvation.
No one can do it for you. No one can “pray” you in. You can’t present your “church” card or your “good person” card and get a free pass to eternal life. You have to come to the end of yourself and realize that your eternity lies in the nail-pierced hands of Jesus, which are extended to you…waiting to welcome you to His family.
Are you ready? I hope so. I want to meet you in heaven someday and tell you the incredible story of just how God led me to the place and time where I am writing this article in this wonderful magazine.

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

ROCKY MOUNT, NC
What a beautiful day it turned out to be. We are so blessed and thankful for all the bikes and the riders and church members and friends that came. We had over 50 bikes this year, more than we had ever had. We had to find more table and chairs, and that was OK.
We started the day with our Prayer Circle under a beautiful waving American Flag displayed by Woods Machine of Rocky Mount. Many thanks to Tommy Woods for this every year. After a brief welcome from me, Lori Davis, I asked our youth director, Calvin Peacock to lead us in prayer for a great day of fellowship and safety on the ride.
We want to thank the Nash County Sherriff office for helping us get the first bikes out at 10:00. They enjoyed a 60 mile ride through Nash and Wilson counties. The stops this year included: Harper’s Nursery/Wendy’s Hole in the Wall Boutique, Cyclemax, Big Rock Power Sports & Marine and JD’s Grocery and Grill ending up back at Shenandoah Baptist Church where the rest of the fun began.
Each rider was treated to a hot dog lunch with all the trimmings as well as a goodie bag filled with items donated by some our sponsors.
We had o ver 125 sponsors/donators this year with countless door prizes and gift cards. We had several of the prize values between $100 and $400 to help us in our mission to raise money for the Shenandoah youth ministries and outreach. Again this year we were blessed with donations for a raffle.
The winner of the car was Sherry Parker! Congrats!
Story: Lori Davis
Photos: Roger Martin, Catina Cary, Blue Knights MC XXI & Lori Davis
We started selling the tickets last fall and it was a great success. 1st prize was a 2012 Fiat Sport won by Sherry Parker. The 2nd prize was an AR Semi Automatic won by John Lee and then the 3rd prize was season passes for two to the Rudy Theatre in Selma won by Katherine Zachry. Thanks to everyone that participated.
In total, with the run, the door prizes, 50/50, cake auction and concessions, we raised over $12,500. We thank each and every person that bought even 1 ticket and we ask God’s blessings so that this money will be used to HIS glory and HIS only.
God blessed us with this idea of a Scripture Run over 8 years ago and it has grown and evolved every year. It is a lot of hard work but the rewards are so great. Many kids will be going to camp that otherwise might not be able to afford to go. If even one life is changed because of all this, then we are truly blessed and thankful.
We have so many loving and faithful friends that help make this happen every year and I thank God for all of them. The Bible says “ Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding” Prov 3:5. When you do that, you cannot go wrong
God Bless all of you that donated, prayed and attended this year’s event. Next year will be here before you know it and we hope you will plan on joining us.

Reading of the Names, Ceremony...
North Carolina Vietnam Veterans, Inc. has held this Accounting of our Prisoners Of War / Missing In Action on the 1st Saturday of every month - for 35 years! This month, CVMA NC 15-6 & 15-6a of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association were the Guest Readers. ‘Till They ALL Come Home!!! ~ OB JAMMER
Lets recap on the motorcycle situation. The last time y’all read my article, my bike was on its way to the shop. I’m happy to say she is out and much much better than how she was when she went in. The clutches were replaced and there is a list of other problems she had but brothers and sisters, she is running like your refrigerator. I was so happy when my bro called and said hey bro, your bike is ready for pick up. HELL YEAH!!! I as any biker would had to ride it back home, right? There’s no time for hooking up a trailer. I asked my wife to run me over to the shop and there I was in the passenger seat all excited like a kid with a new basketball heading to the park. I was ready son!
The bike was dirty as shit when I brought it over, kinda embarrassing I’m not going to lie. So that was my second detail once I got her home. I also waxed her, too. Now that the bike was running great and looking great, I was ready for a ride with my brothers, and as luck would have it
it was time again for the Tuckahoe MC Biker Olympics. I don’t know if you have ever been but it’s the one event that you should go to if you claim to be a old school biker.
I’m pretty sure if you own a motorcycle, you have seen just about every biker movie known to man. We’ve all seen, Easy Rider and Above The Law but there’s that select few bikers who’ve seen Stone Cold. That’s kinda sorta of the way these Biker Games play out. There are several events that take place and each one can be a bit of a challenge. I can’t tell you each game but trust me they are definitely fun to participate in and fun to watch.
I don’t think people know the excitement they are missing. You see when you first obtain a motorcycle, you are all excited. The feel of the bike, the uncertainty of your abilities. All the what ifs that pour in to your mind. You know, safety should of course be a forever presence in your mind. Then once you hit the rode. That’s when the rush starts to happen. The twist of the throttle and instantly you feel this high that runs all over you. Now you are hooked. That’s when every motorcycle movie or show has now become you top search on Google.
You see other people riding and you know you are hooked when that makes you want to ride. It’s a thrill man! But the movies and shows don’t really hit you right in the thumper just yet. That’s because they are movies. They are not real, but I can tell you what is real! The biker games. You will really appreciate the real when it comes to the biker games in real life. All those stories you heard about bikers doing some cool shit. That’s at the games.
There’s so much going on, and you are surrounded by like minded people. There’s nothing cooler than watching the slow race on motorcycles. You got to know your ability and understand your balance. It’s not just balance though. You’ve got to sometimes go a good amount of time with your bike standing still without your boots touching the dirt! It can be a challenge! Then there’s one of my favorites. The game called, “Honey, I’m home”. You got to be portraying that you are doing the nasty with a lucky volunteer or your partner hahahaha! Then the crowd will holler!
HONEY I’M HOME!!! You’ve got to jump off the bunk put on some fireman’s pants then jump through a freestanding window frame, then run over to your bike, crack it and get out of there in the fastest time. The fastest time recorded is the winner!
I know it may sound a little questionable, but trust me it’s funny and you will have a great time. We look forward to this event every year! I usually take time off from work if it falls on a Saturday that I need to come in because it’s so fun. Not to forget to mention you can meet different people from all walks of life. Different people, different Clubs, and it’s all very comforting.
With the date of the event usually falling in April, it kinda opens the start of the fair weather riders dusting off their motorcycles.
I’m sorry, I had to throw that shot out there hahahaha! Trust me, I’m not no spring chicken, myself. I too wil l stick that big toe outside the door and see if it’s a great time to twist that wick!
Well I’m going to leave y’all now. I can’t wait to see y’all sharing the breeze!

It’s in the darkest valleys of life that we learn to focus on the light that is creating the shadows....
It took me losing everything I had to really appreciate the little things God does, in fact I’ve come to understand that those little things are actually big things and they’re the things that matter most. A.W. Tozer said the urgent things in life are rarely important and the important things in life are rarely urgent.....I have a much deeper appreciation for those words now than when I first read them 20 years ago.
I’ve been hearing from a lot of people who are in bad shape and are about to give up and my heart breaks for all of them. I can relate to almost every situation these people are in, some have lost a spouse or child, some have lost jobs and are looking at being homeless and others are facing serious health problems. I understand too well how it feels to lose everything and most of the people in your life and I know what wanting to give up and die feels like too. For almost 2 full years after my wife died I just wanted to fade-away and die but I fought through all the stuff trying to convince me to give up. I’m really not sure if it was my faith or stubbornness that has gotten me through the last 10 years but I give all the credit to God for being alive today.
I’ve faced being in the middle of the desert alone and hungry and having to choose whether I should eat or buy gas and I’ve spent many nights having to sleep on Bullwinkle. Loneliness and hopelessness were the only feelings I had for what felt like an eternity but something kept me in the fight.
I remember being in the darkest hours of my life and desperately wanting to escape it but I was almost paralyzed by the surrealness of what I was going through and I couldn’t find any way to go forward.
It was several months before I even began to be able to see a way through the darkest valley I had ever been in...
I don’t know what I would have done if that still small voice in the back of my mind hadn’t been whispering peace to my spirit. I’m still homeless, almost broke and I’m still lonely but because of what I’ve had to endure I have a much better perspective on life and an appreciation for things I once took for granted. I count it an honor to have been chosen to endure this life because I have been able to give others that are in the darkest days of their lives the same comfort I received. I would never have chosen to spend the last days of my life this way but my life is not my own....
Last December when I thought my riding days were behind me and I had made the decision to give Bullwinkle to my son I was an emotional wreck and quite literally wanted to fade away until God took me home. I had given all I had to give and felt more empty and alone than I had since my wife died but once again that still small voice whispered in my mind to not give up yet so I refused to let myself become depressed and withdraw from the ministry God had ordained for me. I struggled with being without a scooter for the first time in over 50 years but an even more difficult struggle about being scooterless was how powerful of a ministry tool scooters, especially Bullwinkle, had been. The struggle to deal with not having Bullwinkle anymore was exasperated by the fact that I could never afford to buy another smaller scooter but I still couldn’t give up ministering in the scooter world.
I had prayed, not with a whole lot of faith, for God to somehow get me on another scooter and particularly a smaller model Harley like a Dyna but
I knew I could never be able to afford one on my $1,000.00 a month income. For a couple of months I was feeling lonelier than normal and pretty much of no value because I was nowhere near as mobile as I had been for nearly 10 years but a few weeks ago the weather changed and I was seeing and hearing scooters in the canyons and it began to intensify the feelings of inadequacy and loneliness. I can’t articulate how low and out of touch I felt, especially since almost all of the relationships I’ve developed over the past 10 years were directly related to riding scooters…
I had refused to allow myself to stop ministering but I was resigned to the ‘fact’ that my days on 2 wheels were behind me….when I was at my lowest point I saw the verse of scripture that says ‘His thoughts are not my thoughts and His ways are not my ways’ fulfilled. While I was trying to adjust my attitude and perspective about living life and ministering without a scooter God was chuckling because He was orchestrating circumstances that would put me back on 2 wheels.
I was humbled, thankful and blessed beyond my wildest imagination when a very close friend and pastor in Wichita said he wanted to give me one of his scooters. I had a really hard time accepting such a gift but I had prayed for a Dyna and my friend Dave would put one in my hands if I would receive it. As I write this I’m in Wichita at Dave’s getting the scooter ready to ride back to Colorado tomorrow….
So often we have such a limited vision because circumstances appear insurmountable and we tend to surrender to them. One would think that after being a believer for decades I’d never leave God out of the equation in any situation but I did….I’m sure there are other people who are at a critical point in their lives and have given up on seeing their desire fulfilled but I want to encourage everyone not to count God out of their equation. Just as He has done for me He can and will do for anyone who dares to believe He exists and that He will bless those of us who seek to know truth and experience a genuine relationship with Him…
To know Him and to make Him known is all He requires of any of us….

Have you ever had a conversation where that statement is agreed upon?
It may happen with this agreement at the end of a conversation.
If it has, then both parties have expressed their need to only do their half of the ride to meet up.
Once ya meet, the next destination will be together. Unless of course, you only met half way in order to go separate ways.
This is the halfway point for the 6 Behind Barz Motorcycle Magazine issues of 2025. This 3/6 th issue is a turning point for me.
It has been an honor to write thoughts the Holy Spirit reveals.
Over the years I’ve expressed these thoughts with transparency in hopes to capture someone’s attention... as they read through the magazine.
Thank you for reading here, it’s been a good ride.
You’ve met me half way by reading this, I’ve met you together when you make your way to find the may/ June issue. I’ve done my part and you met me half way by opening up the magazine that was found. And as you flip through the articles I feel good about all that’s shared.
Thank you for meeting with me through all of these Devotions and hearing me out.
For 2025 I have 3 more to write. Have you met someone half way? To where both halves make wholeness.
If you have then your half is where you are together wholly, right where there are no halves only wholeness.
Jesus is willing to meet everyone half way in this life ride, except He went out of His way to do it all for you. It’s already done.
Jesus went away in order to prepare a place for you, if this were not so He would have told you.
Whatever the distance He will come get you so you’ll never have to ride your half alone.
He’s riding on a horse powered supernatural fate for you, destined to bring those willing free in the wind together.
In Jesus’ name, “Going my way? Let’s meet up” to destiny.
Let’s Ride... “Jesus Freak” Rodger.

GIVE US A CALL IF YOUR BUSINESS WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE BEHIND BARZ STICKER SECTION OF THE MAGAZINE. WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR GREAT PRIZES TO GIVE AWAY!
For 21 years we have included stickers in each issue of the magazine. I personally put each and every sticker in each and every copy myself (Doobie)!!! Here lately folks have gotten bad about pulling stickers out of many copies...I guess because they like the stickers so much. It has happened in the past but not like it has the last few issues. It is unfair to others who pick up a copy of the magazine only to find that their copy does not have a sticker.
BUT...we are going to try again with this issue (May-June 2025) putting stickers in each issue again. We will also have stickers available for FREE but you have to send in a self addressed, stamped envelope to: PO Box 692 Nashville, NC 27856. We will then send you the sticker that goes with this issue (if you write “FREEDOM EAGLE” on the envelope plus, we will throw in at least 3 more stickers, of our choice.
We will see how this goes and hopefully can continue to put a free sticker in every copy of every issue of BB from now on. Thanks for your continued support! We still have lots of killer prizes from our sponsors on the previous page to give away.
So remember, you can’t win it if you don’t stick it!
